Great period for England... 4 wickets (so far) for 6 runs. 3 for Wood, 1 for Robinson. Wood and Robinson have been excellent after Anderson and abroad were disappointing first up. If we can keep them below 350 we’ve done very well.

Bit of a kick in the tail there, so 378 all out.
Now time to see how our batsmen fare.

Sibley next for the chop?

I heard a scary stat on TMS earlier today.
Of the 9 players with the highest test batting average in the current test just one is in the England team.

Sibley next for the chop? Neither him or Burns inspire much confidence. Fair to see neither of them have done enough to secure their place in the team. It will be interesting see who opens in the final test of the summer. Edit. Same goes for Crawley... he seems to have a decent enough technique but his temperament is awful. That was a really dumb shot. No need to be driving that early in his innings. And it’s not the first time.

It will be interesting see who opens in the final test of the summer. In complete contrast to Conway who I’m really impressed with , refreshing to see a traditional or ‘old fashioned ‘ test opener .Minimal if any movement around the crease as the bowler is running in , let’s the ball come and plays it under his eyes allowing to play the ball quite late while presenting the straightest of bats to the bowler , seems to have most of the shots required to score quickly enough while offering a sound defence. He is going to be around for some time .

Sibley next for the chop? His second innings scores have saved him, but big first innings knocks invariably set up the game to win so he must be on shaky ground.....

I'd love to see Haseeb Hameed come back into the fold, I think it's a mental issue with him which hopefully he has resolved.....

5 wicket less test innings in a row for Broad👀 I don’t think that is anything to be concerned about yet , he’s been our most consistent performer with the ball for the last two years. He’ll come again soon ...hopefully with not too many roads for him to bowl on .

He is one I’d like to seem given another go .He’s had a good season so far wit a couple of hundreds and a94 . He has had a poor couple years previously and been playing league cricket in The Liverpool Conference , my son played against him a couple of times , he didn’t get any on those occasions either .

Sibley next for the chop? Too much movement across the crease means he’s always playing across his pads to leg , very vulnerable to the slightest bit of movement at this level .

He’s not bowled on anything that remotely suits his style in all the last 5.

I wonder, and mentioned before, if Ollie Pope is the man for that troublesome #3 spot. He seems to have the technique and temperament - although what I saw of him batting last week for Surrey against Middlesex did make me wonder about the former attribute. Crawley has shown far too much impatience so far to be trusted playing in such a pivotal position.

Possibly , it may be an idea to push him up the order to see , I think Crawley may be suited to no 5 at the moment .I would still prefer Root to bat at 3 but that doesn’t seem likely .

Bit left field maybe but perhaps Stokes should have a crack at 3 and further reduce his bowling workload. Just a thought. Sibley should be dropped, simple as that.

Not really left field , I think as time goes on that may well happen as Stokes ‘s body begins to show its age and Curran begins to establish a regular place in the side .I have to say that I’m not a great fan of Sibley .
