Might as well call the Ashes off for a year, save us the sodding torture of it.

Does anybody know what’s going on with Stokes? Why isn’t he playing and why are reports saying he won’t play months down the line?

Are you joking? I'm too tired to tell. Certainly not! Nothing to be afraid of over there mate! I’m tired too, 😉 We’ll, I’m also tired - and I’m just getting up. Mind you it’s 4 am. An early breakfast. Australia are pretty much in the same boat as us regards test cricket… in that neither of us is much cop at the game. Australia’s bowling is their strength, as is ours while their batting frequently fails to perform, as does ours. Overall though, their bowling attack is better than ours, particularly in home conditions but their batting is, if anything, worse than ours. So, I’d say 60/40 in favour of the baggy greens. But there is nothing in it. We can certainly win over there this winter - depending, of course, on who we take down under. Sadly, this series is one of those “2 bald men fighting over a comb” contests in terms of quality. Top draw it ain’t. That said, it will, hopefully, be keeping me entertained during the upcoming long, dark, cold, wet, miserable winter. There’s a cheery thought!

Australia are much stronger than England in Australian conditions and I think a 4-1 defeat is about as good as we can expect. Our bowlers won't get anywhere near the levels of assistance that they get over here and apart from Wood (who will only be able to play 2 or 3 tests at most) they don't have the pace to worry the Aussies. We only have one top quality batsman and he has never scored a hundred in Australia.

There's clearly something pretty serious going on with his mental health I guess? To miss an Ashes series at the pinnacle of his career is about as bizarre as it gets. P.s just noticed he hasn't posted on insta since July, not even sponsorship stuff. All feels pretty concerning.

I don’t think any of that alone would rule him out of a series months down the line though? I feel concerned about what he’s going through and the lack of info doesn’t help. He’s such an iconic sportsman that it’s a big worry when he just disappears from the public eye completely.

A pretty shameful decision by the ECB. Unlike NZ who cited security as the reason for their last minute cancellation, England are saying it’s to do with “pressure” on the players coping with COVID restrictions and “We believe that touring under these conditions will not be ideal preparation for the T20 World Cup, where performing well remains a top priority for 2021”. Ok. I understand that. But, Pakistan have helped us out big time in recent times. We owe them. Why not send a second string squad. At least make a positive gesture. Rather than this self indulgent, selfish, shameful decision. I am disgusted with the ECB. Twats.

Reading between the lines, this wasn't a security decision. A combination of this absurd quarantine lifestyle that is crippling the game and stupid congestion of fixtures.

I’ve no doubt a bunch of players would have jumped at the chance.

A massive fuck you to Pakistan for travelling into a Covid hotspot and allow us to carry on watching cricket when we were all stuck indoors……

I’d imagine that a settled situation in the country itself would help. It’s been a few years since Mugabe was ousted during which Zimbabwe has been out of the news here. I hope that is a case of no news being good news and that the country is finding some peace and prosperity.

I read the story and thought fair enough who'd want to spend 4 or 5 weeks away from family behind such security, I then read it was actually 4 days long for 2 T20s as someone said thats a city break not a tour, Tom Harrison needs fucking off along with his bonus and the hundred, incorporate some changes into the blast 2 overs from each end cut down the time they have to piss around so the game is done in 75 minutes thats 16 overs an hour.

Yeah 100%. Its tragic what's happened in Zimbabwe both in political terms and cricketing. There are also so many Zimbabweans who haven't represented Zimbabwe over the years. Even with the current crop, you throw Sam Curran, Tom Curran and Colin de Grandhomme into a Zimbabwe National Team and you've already got a competitive side!
