Obvious this would be the outcome from the moment the race ended. He was useless and has correctly lost his job, but I can’t help feeling he’s the convenient scapegoat that was used to allow Verstappen to win the race he should not have won. The result should have been overturned at the time. I don’t have much time for Hamilton, but I do believe strongly in fair play and he was shafted. If I was him I’d race this season, hopefully win the Championship and then make a public spectacle of putting the trophy in a bin in front of the worlds media. Interesting line in the BBC report: "Hamilton was leading in Abu Dhabi and on course for a record eighth world title when race director Michael Masi failed to operate the rules correctly during a late safety-car period". I may have missed it previously, but I've not seen it stated quite so blatantly before? Now he's been sacked, I suppose they can be more obvious about it without fear of being sued?

As much as i wanted Verstappen to win, it was ultimately a total cock up really. Should have been red flagged, re started for a 5 lap shoot out on new tyres. That would have been epic and certainly a lot fairer.

I just hope the upcoming season is as exciting as the last one.

Jamie Chadwick, the two-time W Series champion, will be in the W Series again this year (with 8 F1 support races): www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/60482888I can't help but think the W Series might be failing in its aim to get female drivers into the male-dominated areas of the sport if the 2-time champion (from 2 seasons total) can't get a good drive in F3 or F2. Still, it's early days and only the third W Series ever. But I also wonder if 8 races is enough to hone those skills. F3 has 20+ races (and Chadwick won one of them a few years ago).

first day of testing today, steady running at the top end with no dramas, times cant be relied on yet as this is a shakedown, we wont really see the true speed until the final 5 mins of q3 qualifying. the mclaren looks very good along with alpine so far!
sadly haas not had a great day but the feeling in the paddock is that the haas car for this year is by far the most accomplished and complex one out there, but they did abandon any development last year and concentrated on this years car, you heard it here first they will be constructors champions and young Mick drivers champion! if only eh.....

Good to finally see the Red Bull at least, and again, it has significant design differences to other cars. It's going to be a mad start to the season, I can see one or two teams being right on the pace at the start and others playing catch-up. The big three teams are all quite different, and I struggle to believe that they're all got it right.

I suspect that Haas will have no choice but to part ways with Mazepin as it's highly likely that his dad's company will be put under sanctions as his father is an ally of Putin. This will of course drop Haas right in the shit.

Haas are dropping the Uralkali livery for tomorrow's testing session. I doubt it will reappear anytime soon. Mazepin is still scheduled for a test session.

I think Horner's an idiot, but I won't judge him for those comments without knowing the context, as he is right. Lando Norris has a huge female following. The Netflix series has helped open F1 one up to a new audience too.

I see above that the Uralkali livery is being dropped for tomorrow’s test session but that doesn’t cut the mustard. If Haas are funded by Russian money, they shouldn’t be allowed to compete - end of. Hope Mazepin gets booed to fuck!

Interesting point as somebody has said the haas team has dropped the major Russian sponsor, I don’t see that punishing a Russian driver would be correct, we have seen tonight Russians protesting in the streets and booking one way tickets to the gulag, the average russian does not support poo tin. The Russian f1 has been cancelled as it’s been removed from the calendar and replaced with a race in Turkey already.

He's only their driver because his dad pays Haas to let him drive. There is no way he deserves his seat on merit. Haas dropping Mazepin would be nothing more than a result of the annulment of Uralkali's sponsorship contract. The fact that they are letting Mazepin drive the car today is a sign that Haas are not "punishing" Mazepin.

On the ticketing site the option for Russia had gone and been replaced with Turkey yesterday, also Vettel came out and said he wouldn’t be going

Well, following the whole Hamilton/Verstappen/Masi farce, if we needed any more evidence that FIA is run by a bunch of arseholes, their decision to allow Russian and Belorussian drivers to compete "but not under their national flags" is it.

I'm not convinced about banning individual sportsmen/women, however I do want to see all Russian teams sanctioned/barred. In the case of Mazepin, banning the sponsorship deal should be enough to get rid of him as he's effectively part of the sponsorship deal. As much as I want to see the back of him, I'd rather it be for him being a crap driver and an entitled awful human being.

the mercedes has unveiled its true design for the season and its magnificent! no side pods horners piss is boiled over it what a day I dont know the first thing about F1 and its technology< Im more of a BriSCA F1 Stock Car fanatic, so how do they keep the engine cool....? obviously car has a radiator but mainly relies on the car ingesting huge amounts of air through the sidepods the difficulty this year is the change in aero systems from downforce to ground effect means the air needs to flow differently through the car hence we are seeing some enormous sidepods on some cars to compensate for the reduced air around the car as its being forced inside the car through the floors now my guess is mercedes have worked out a radical cooling system that does not rely on as much air as the others it still remains to be seen if the car will be quick or quicker i should say but it will be lethal on the straights as it is more aerodynamic due to the lack of sidepods. the contention is that the wingmirror plates are being used as an aerodynamic feature which does seem against the spirit of the rules but has been signed off by the fia already i would expect to see an official complaint lodged by red bull after qualifying at bahrain but it will be largely symbolic as 8 of the 10 teams need to agree and some wont support it as mercedes supply engines and gearboxes for the cars and will not want to upset the balance we are going to see another brawn double diffuser moment where the other teams play catchup and look to copy the design, but the design is so radical its going to be hard as the whole philosophy of the car will need to be changed from the ground up fascinating stuff really, well i think so!
