I pay plenty of tax and not for one minute do I think about ho much goes to William and Kate, I think about other stuff though, stuff that matters That's splendid. Although it is possible to think of multiple things over a period of time......... If that’s a slur over my reluctance to concurrently play Fantasy IPL and CC I take umbrage and bid you farewell😉

Being a republican isn't personal. Have nothing against William (or Harry) in fact I feel quite sorry for them. Ye they were born into extreme privilege but their lives don't seem ones to be envied. I think Harry especially struggled with the prison of his duties. Wouldn't it be better for everyone involved to do away with this anachronistic relic? Exactly, truth be told I couldn't give a shit about the individuals in question. William shagging about and being a snide racist for example is between him, his wife and the family members affected...... And the evidence of that is where ? Ultimately they generate a lot of money for the country and at least as ambassadors do at least work. Their are other members of the royal family who are embarrassing but these 2 aren’t. They’re decent people. I’d rather pay my taxes and have them benefit than someone who is capable but chooses not to work, commits crime and claims benefits.

Meanwhile in Belgium the Royal Family are allowing 3 of their residence to be used to house Ukranian refugees.
Least they're handing over some of the wealth built on the back of 10 million dead Congolese and doing something positive.
The only offer our Royal Family have made so far is Prince Andrew agreeing to put up a couple of dozen Ukranian teenage girls indefinitely........

Latest cost of the royal family in 2020 was £69.4 million. There are other costs not counted in the Sovereign Grant such as the lost revenue from the two duchies, security, costs met by local councils and police forces, and lost tax revenue. These are variously estimated to be from £165m to some republicans claiming over £350m.
The profits of the Crown Estate are public money and all go to the Treasury. The Crown Estate brought in £330 million in 2017/18, this money goes to the government who then give the Queen a grant based on 25% of the Crown Estate’s income two years previously.
Overall, in 2018, its reported the British royals contributed £595m via tourism, merchandise and the arts, while costing £165m. This, apparently, makes them 18 times more profitable than Belgium's royals, and an amazing 29 times more than the Spanish monarchy.
There are lots of imponderables such how much tourism would suffer if there was no royal family, how would the nation pay for all the royal residences (There is little chance of the Russian oligarchs buying them now!) Buckingham Palace is costing a packet at the moment for refurbishment. When Xi visited it was not considered to be in a sufficiently good state for him to stay there due to leaks, poor heating, decay, poor plumbing, etc.
If the UK scrapped the monarchy, what would be all the costs of an alternative head of state. Housing, security, visits etc.? The French president is paid about £150,000 for doing his job, but the cost of the French Presidency is over 100 million Euros. The Elysee Palace has 800 employees, many of whom are doing government work but many are on other ceremonial duties, security, etc and equivalent of the UK royalty. There are other French presidency buildings such as Fort de Brégançon, Lantern Pavilion, etc., which are used as presidential retreats and accommodating foreign dignitaries
There has been mention above of the charity work of all the royals. What I think is more important is all the voluntary charity work of the charity workers who are inspired by having a royal patron. Then there are initiatives like the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is transforming the life of one of my neighbour's son, and the Prince's Trust.
We could of course manage without a fancy president and have an anonymous one like the Irish President or the German President. I bet very few could name them both.
Whether the cost is £1 per head of UK population or £5 per head of population, I think the value of tourism generated and the good works they do is excellent value for money. A TV licence costs £159.
I'm a royalist, until someone suggests something better.

You don’t need living royals for a tourist industry, you only have to go to the Palace of Versailles one of the most visited places on earth to see that. In fact I’d hazard a guess many more people would visit the various royal residence dotted around the UK if they were allowed access. And I’m quite happy to see a watered down version as a compromise whereby almost all of the parasites attached to the Queen are sent out in the world to pay their own way like the rest of us……

Personally, I find all the forelock-tugging and hand-wringing servitude towards the royals a bit cringeworthy in the 21st century.
The largely unquestioning deference and positive media coverage (Andrew kind of excepted - although they'll be blowing smoke up his arse again soon enough) is not that dissimilar to what you'd find in more authoritarian countries. It makes ours look a bit immature, as if it's too scared to break away from the kind of feudal system most other more mature countries left behind centuries ago.
If we must have a royal family, they should be reduced to the irrelevant, ceremonial sidelines and made to live off their own vast wealth without any public funding. We'll soon see how much "work" they'll want to do and how much pomp and pageantry they'll pay for themselves. As much as they like would be my answer - provided we're not funding it, fill your coffers from people wanting to be photographed in a meeting at the palace if you like.
I suspect they'd be quite glad of the new approach themselves, their lives sound like fucked up nightmares to me.

The Royal Family, along with the dodgy brass of Russian oligarch crooks in our banks, and four subs armed with nuclear weapons, are the only things left that are stopping us being a third world country. We're actually living right at the time that the once mighty empire that was 'Great Britain' is gasping its death rattles. The dodgy Russian brass has gone tits up, so if we do away with the Royal family, all we'll have left are a few jolly tars flying the tattered Union Flag while they sail into the sunset singing Rule Britannia.. Be careful what you wish for. OS.

The commonwealth is a great institution and although that continue the queen does not need to be head of state albeit ceremonial for the remaining countries that she is This war in Ukraine reminds us that every country deserves to be independent and has its own sovereignty The empire is no more and rightly so but our ceremonial monarchy is great. For the work most do and just a bit of example in the world It’s a crying shame some of the fuckers don’t realise, respect and appreciate the privilege they have been born into
