I wonder what the decision would have been with VAR? Against a top 6 side in the Prem it'd still have been a penalty! That's the most depressing thing about VAR. You think it will stop penalties being awarded to cheats whereas in reality referees seem to look for the slightest contact as justification for awarding a penalty. It should be, if any doubt, don't give it because awarding an almost certain goal is a far more result influencing decision than wrongly not awarding one.

My sight is good and in real time it did look like a penalty, but with the aid of the replay it quite clearly was not. Overall I think we were unlucky, hitting the post twice on the night. My eye sight is ok too and I can tell you even in real-time I could tell it wasn’t a pen. I thought the ref was going to blow the whistle for a free kick to us and book that diving cheat That could be the problem for referees, we are viewing different aspects of what is going on as it happens. It's not an easy job for them, none of us were standing where the ref was at the time it happened. Still quite clearly not a penalty. My son said today he prefers watching the championship as the football is so much more fluid without Var. I stopped watching the premiership when they started using Var. Guess we just have to put up with the referees mistakes.

I have no comprehension whatsoever of how somebody can watch that incident tonight, with twelve seconds left, and come to the conclusion that diving is no worse than jumping unfairly for a header or a shirt pull. It's about as low as you can get in football without biting your opponents or doing a Keane/Haaland tackle. As I keep saying, television and VAR make it easy to eradicate diving. Naughton could now be suspended for the rest of the season, which would serve him right. It wouldn't take long for it to stop. I think it would be interesting to bring an 'appeal' dimension into VAR. Except for obvious stonewallers, the referee gives benefit of doubt to defenders every time. The attacker can appeal for a VAR review but if they are found to have dived, a penalty is given to the opposition. He could, he SHOULD but sadly I think he won't. The powers that be have the opportunity to stamp out cheating in football but consistently refuse to take it, it's about the only consistent thing they have.

Swansea given a penalty in the 7th minute of additional time
Unfortunate disallowed goal for Middlebrough first half
Was a penalty according to Sky as for additional 7 minutes???
Big game against them next weekend - wonder what the changing rooms will be like?

What the hell is going on with Welsh sporting teams and dodgy refereeing decisions lately? Has Tom Jones sacrificed a lamb on Owen Glyndwr's birthday or something?
Mind you, they could use Cooper's teeth as a mini Stonehenge...

This is an absolute shocker of a decision. The goal should stand but at worst Middlesbrough should get a penalty yet somehow Swansea come away with a free kick.
