The Scottish champions are automatically qualified for the preliminary stage. Which is not the group stage I.e. they have to qualify You're talking about the group stages only, I am talking about the whole competition.

Celtic won the SPL nine years in a row, and did qualify for the group stage on at least two occasions. So the club would be regarded as a good launching pad for better career moves. It hasn't always worked out that way and so Celtic have found themselves saddled with foreign players with limited motivation to play for Celtic, making them the Scottish version of scfc, if you like. It's not true that the CL has become increasingly more difficult to get into for non-top 5 countries. It's always been difficult, but every season some clubs do qualify...to make up numbers usually. Still it remains a good shopping window, which is what we're talking about.

Could he be tempted? it must be so frustrating working under our constraints due to FFP down to mismanagement of the club before his time, whilst being lumbered with the likes of Vokes who is on big money and contributing fuck all as well as the full squad we have out on loan.
I know he's trying to build something here but Celtic could be a head turner, don't forget he's actually based in Scotland too.

If I was MON I’d be off to Scotland in the blink of an eye. He’s done a good job here, but the task of rebuilding is so great there is every chance things are going to get worse before they get better, and there is no patience among the supporter base as we see here on a daily basis.

The FFP restraints must be tough to stomach, that said he would have known about them from the get go you would have thought?. I would imagine Stoke would flatly rebuff any approaches, if they were forthcoming?. His budget at Celtic would not be great I would imagine. If we drift into no chance of play off territory, could we be vulnerable to an approach then?.

Agree with the above, he won’t get any more patience up there, probably less.

Maresca seems fancied for it now. A above, think MON would take it, was very close to taking the National team job and could understand if he did. They're in no rush obviously as season over , league wise

Do you think the Celtic supporters will have more patience? You get half a season to work wonders at most clubs and if you don't you're gone! Being an ex-Celtic manager will probably mean a couple more manager jobs in Scotland before hanging up his padded jacket.

Which begs the question of the people that think the expectation from us is too much for him, how the hell would he cope up there? My biggest reservation with him is him getting rid of his underdog mentality.

My biggest reservation with him is him getting rid of his underdog mentality. It’s not a case of MON being worried about expectation. I dare say that doesn’t bother him in the slightest. The issue is the gargantuan task he has of rebuilding our squad is daunting and can only be done with time. I think there is every chance things will get worse first and even though that might not be his fault, it may well damage his reputation if he sticks around and the fans start to get frustrated over the next 18 months.

Are the owners still in situ at Celtic, who tried to appoint him in 2016, pre Brendan Rodgers?. If so, then there may be something in it..
