It seems Neil Lennon's sacking is imminent, but the assistant will be caretaker until the end of the season. www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/23/neil-lennon-on-brink-at-celtic-with-john-kennedy-set-to-replace-himWhat then? I can hardly imagine that they haven't taken notice of Michael O'Neill's personal success as Stoke manager. He's going to be high on their list of candidates, and I think the job will be offered to him. This could give MON a sleepless night or two, but I think he will turn the offer down. It's the right job for him at the wrong time. He's bound by loyalty (more than your average manager) to the Stoke owners, moreover he's started something good at Stoke but he hasn't really seen it come to fruition. Maybe when he has served promotion, he will be more approachable, but of course Celtic can't wait for that.

He clearly doesn’t fancy seeing Rangers pick up the title on the last day of the season at Celtic Park.

I would say Newcastle United are more of a threat than Celtic. Given his personal background, Northern Irish Catholic, there's a fair chance he probably supported Celtic as a boy. Maybe he didn't, as far as I know, he's never spoken about the subject. But if it's the case, then Celtic is far more likely to be his desired job than Newcastle, however much they may pay. When I said Celtic would have noticed his work at Stoke, it is of course even more likely they noticed his personal success as NI manager.

He's turned the job down before apparently Celtic can't offer what he wants, Premier League football As for Newcastle can't see that either. When is last time a Premier League club appointed a manager from the Championship?

Do you not know the difference? His personal success would depend on Stoke's success. If you're talking about his personal success and not his success at Stoke then that's different. His personal success would be something like pulling a top bird or loosing ten stone, that sort of thing.

I may be wrong, but MON gives the impression he is very much a project type man and would follow through the job, if given type and obviously is happy in his role. I would imagine he is happy at Stoke and enjoys the challenge of getting us back into the premier League..Time will tell I guess...

His personal success would be something like pulling a top bird or loosing ten stone, that sort of thing. No his personal success involves a lot more than just winning promotion or a cup, after all only three teams can go up, only one wins a cup etc. He's been successful in making several academy prospects establish themselves, or some being on the verge of, in the first team, which hasn't really happened here for a long time. He's working on a very tight budget, but he's actually defying the theory that to succeed you must buy heavily. There's more to it, but for the time being I especially am taken in with his success in turning Nick Powell into our best and most important player, after all the personal failures Nick has gone through.
