I can't think of a decent female stand up, one that's genuinely made me laugh. Before anyone says Victoria Wood, her scriptwriting was fantastic (Dinnerladies etc) but I found her stand up to be mediocre at best

I'm a fan of the Joe Rogan podcast but his stand up is wank

It’s all subjective though. I tried Eddie Izzard a few years ago because I know how highly thought of he is but it did nothing for me, even before I saw him acting a buffoon on QT during the brexit debates. (Which might’ve biased my judgment if I’d seen that before trying)

It seems to have been the racial slurs that led to Sadowtiz's show being cancelled. In a capitalist democracy people should vote with their wallets Who buys anything these days from food to flip flops without researching what they're getting? Who in their right mind would see Sadowtiz without finding out if he is their cup of tea ? I can't help but feel that some people will always spoil for a fight on political grounds either side of the divide. I'm sure his next tour will be like the Sex Pistols - sold out, cancelled, highly publicised leading him to be hated and venerated by anyone with a dog in the fight

I'm sure his next tour will be like the Sex Pistols - sold out, cancelled, highly publicised leading him to be hated and venerated by anyone with a dog in the fight I suppose things always fall through the net, but I find it odder that the festival/venue put him on in the first place given he's so well known. I generally think people should be free to see people like Sadowitz, Chubby Brown etc. if they want to, but I do wonder whether certain people should be given a platform, as I bet to some people it helps validate views that are unacceptable. I've never watched Sadowitz or Brown and don't want to, so I wouldn't make a firm comment on whether they should be banned or not. I wouldn't make my mind up based on what the media or randomers on social media say, and I think one of the main issues with modern society and "cancel culture" is that people are quick to judge without knowing the facts and/or context.

It seems to have been the racial slurs that led to Sadowtiz's show being cancelled. Personally I think they're using the racial slur and the Wang as a smokescreen. The second announcement from the theatre referenced the Q and T stuff whereas the first steered well clear despite him taking the piss about blokes saying their women throughout. The theatre also has a bloke dressed as a sexy cat who shoves his arse into the nose of unsuspecting crowd members starting a two week stint so they can't be prudish last week concerned about security of staff and patrons then have a bloke rubbing his bare arse on folk this unless there's an agenda at play. Importantly there is still no context to these racial slurs - I've seen a couple of folk who said they went say he said 'the tories just see Sunak as a Pakki' which if true isn't racist and difficult to argue given he's getting absolutely trounced by Liz fucking Truss! His own statement has asked for an apology as they've booked him umpteen times before and his act isn't Jim Davidson.

Of course the biggest architects of cancel culture are those that moan about it the most. Like the Victorian Workhouse owner getting civil servants to trawl through social media so that anyone critical of the Government is banned from Whitehall.

I do wonder how much of a reality “cancel culture” is now versus pre social media.
And by cancel culture, I do mean where people actually lose jobs etc because of their actions/words.
Is it on the rise, or is it just something that’s perceived to be new? Before social media, we had news and newspapers. These places are much less likely to report random, he said/she said events that social media. It doesn’t mean that complaints weren’t still rife and that people still didn’t lose jobs etc.

Mary Whitehouse is probably the most famous 'cancel culture' person of the past.

Alleged racist not given platform to be racist again. The horror. He's been racist and misogynistic for 30 years. Personally I wouldn't watch him nor book him if I ran a theatre. However deplatforming him for it then citing they're not censoring is completely inept and words losing their meaning again. Isn't it strange though in the current climate he told transphobic jokes but that apparently has absoloutely nowt to do with his cancellation especially following the success of Gervais and Chappelle off the back of similar exposure. So either the theatre don't care about the trans stuff which surely Twitter would be in meltdown at their obvious transphobia or racism and him getting his widge out as promised are being used to cover the real motivation here. He uses plenty of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and every other ist and phobe term and joke. But he's actually not any of them. A comedy approach far beyond the tiny minds of people today.

I've come up with a brilliant idea , don't know if it will catch on though. Here it is - If a person wants to go see him , then can. If they don't want to go see him , they don't have to 😬 I know it's a bit of a crazy suggestion but it might work . Ricky Gervais has cracked pedo jokes before but I don't for 1 second think Ricky is a pedo. I don't know why people can't see a joke for what it is..a joke

NBA coach for Boston Celtics suspended for a year for having a consensual relationship with a female staff.
Now, I know that there have been major abuses of this (if someone is leveraging their position of power, for example) and that in those cases, this could be well-justified. But why should an adult get in trouble for shagging another, consenting adult?

FA coaches cannot have a relationship with other staff until they are 25

the kangaroo courts of social media are a cancer.
IF someone has done something wrong, to someone else, you can't just grab the pitchforks and hound the person into silence with unproven allegations. IF you have that problem, you should go to the relevant authorities with the issue, and go through the proper channels.
These unfounded allegations have far more reaching consequences that the no-marks who make them realise. It could affect the accused's family/friends/business/business clients etc and it all falls despite having no concrete proof.
It also means that should the accused go to trial, it's possible they won't get a fair trial as people may have been unwittingly prejudiced against it by reading allegations for themselves.
It's interesting to note, that social media is like the wild west, and you can pretty much saying anything as it's not counted as 'in print'. This is something i've seen someone deal with in the last week. It's outrageous.

Anything goes as long as it fits a certain narrative controlled by Social Media companies

JK Rowling is fast becoming an absolute rock star and an ally of those with basic common sense. Graham Norton on the other hand, is your typical example of an establishment figure pretending to fight for justice of the self-titled 'marginalized' (LGBTQ, Trans etc) groups in our society. The Huffington Post are a particularly unpleasant group of characters when writing about those they don't like, a bit like the Guardian really. Nothing like a group of male journalists taking pops at a powerful woman in JK Rowling though, love it. On the face of it, one of the core aims of 'Cancel Culture' appears to involve censoring either those who lean towards a more conservative value system or the media output associated with their name. Graham Norton can claim that cancel culture doesn't exist, because he's never likely to be cancelled. He's an openly homosexual man, who loudly shouts for the LGBTQ side of any debate. He's got about as much chance of being cancelled, as he has of developing some actual talent in his later years after a 30 year career playing off the fact he's openly camp. Cancel me Norton also wildly misses the point when he refers to John Cleese: "I've been cancelled" and goes onto 'moan about being cancelled'. Censoring someone's methods of broadcasting their opinion is not the same as 'cancelling someone'. You can't cancel someone's opinion. You can cancel someone's ability to perform or earn their living. That said, I think what has happened to Tommy (The Tit) Robinson should serve as a warning to anyone who wants to stray too far from the line. The guy might be a raging gaping arsehole, but the way he has been targeted by larger media organizations should concern us all. If they spunked as much money tackling some of the other horrors in society, as they do on Tommy Robinson, perhaps they might not happen in the first place. Back to John Cleese though, he is speaking almost exclusively about his media output, effectively his main source of income, television shows and comedy performances etc. His output can indeed be cancelled when a bunch of middle class zealots decide to attack the venue, for example, thus resulting in a cancellation. JK Rowling has suffered the same treatment repeatedly, and the fact she continues to tell people to go fuck themselves is why she's an absolute fucking rock star for all of us.
