This England team remind me of Stoke, we have the players to do better, but seem like they couldn't give a toss.

Pathetic, away from home under pressure we have zero backbone.

For so many years now it's like home and away we are two completely different teams.
Didn't we lose 5-0 in India in 2016? Feels ominous ahead of an incredibly difficult summer and of course the big one next winter.

Feels ominous ahead of an incredibly difficult summer and of course the big one next winter. It’s the same for every side to be honest. Look how good this India side are and some of the great Indian sides of the past and yet they’ve never won a series in England. New Zealand don’t lose series at home but don’t win many away. We’ll almost certainly beat India at home this summer and the attention will turn to how useless the Indian batsmen are at playing the moving ball.

I think that you're right in saying we'll beat them at home, I've already noted Gill down as a walking wicket in English conditions. However, I reckon they're more likely to put up a better fight.

I agree, and that's why I think the ICC should trial the approach the Country Championship has by allowing the away side the option of bowling first. Hopefully it'd produce more pitches which are suitable for a full five days and more "even" for both sides. It wouldn't do anything about the conditions obviously and the ability to exploit them, but it might go some way to reducing the obvious home/away differences?

They’ll almost certainly put up a better fight. The last series over here was a lot closer than the 4-1 scoreline suggested. Gill will struggle to score runs and if they’re stupid enough to pick Rohit he’ll be lucky to make a score of double figures. Rahane rarely scores runs in England and we won’t have to worry about the likes of Ashwin and Sundar coming in at 7/8 and hitting tons.

It’s certainly an idea worth thinking about, although I don’t think it would have that much impact on results. Picking the likes of Crawley, Sibley and Pope who won’t have played in these conditions against this quality of attack and expecting them to score runs is just daft. They’d be better off just picking the best 5/6 batsmen in county cricket at playing spin and playing them instead. You can’t tell me someone like Jennings wouldn’t have been a better option for this series than Crawley or Sibley?

They are very good but it's ended up being a bit of a farce in the end this series. Very disappointing.

I said if we genuinely wanted to go "horses for courses" they should have picked Jennings. Couldn't buy a run in English conditions but excellent in the sub continent. That said a couple of these pitches would have tested anyone. There's even an argument for playing someone like Moeen Ali as an opener to allow us to play an extra spinner/seamer down the order. Lets be honest when our opening pair are averaging partnerships of about 5 we could put Anderson there and we wouldn't be any worse off

Dom Bess wouldn't look out of place in a Caverswall 2nd XI. Too late, messaged him, hes playing for Wood Lane 2s. Sounds about right, typical Wood Lane behaviour. Nothing brought greater pleasure than a Sunday Morning win over Wood Lane.

This has got to be it for Bess now for a while. One spinner at home has to be Leach and I wouldn't dare send Bess to Australia, they'd muller him.

Going forward into this summer our bowling attack needs to be Stokes, Leach and 3 other seamers. I would suggest Curran/Woakes at 8, Archer/Stone at 9, Leach at 10 and Broad/Anderson/Wood at 11. Leach will become more economical the more test match overs he bowls, he has the potential to easily become our version of Nathan Lyon as a solid, dependable spinner in all conditions around the world. Bess needs to go away and bowl lots of County Championship overs. Amar Virdi should be the next cab off the rank, he has massive potential......

Bess will probably now take a short break from test cricket of about 5 years while he learns what he is supposed to be doing !

Such a weird series really for a tour of India.
If you’d have said before the series that India wouldn’t make a score of 400 and neither Kohli or Pujara would score a ton no one would believe you.
The first test for me was our best and most complete performance I’ve ever seen from an England side. The next three tests were some of the most pathetic defeats I’ve ever seen.

Root hit 794 in the 6 tests in Sri Lanka and India, the next best England player hit 248, therein lies the main problem.
We've become a one man batting team.......

If someone really gets their head down and applies themself I reckon we might just see out the 20 overs in at least one of the upcoming games !
