Such a weird series really for a tour of India. If you’d have said before the series that India wouldn’t make a score of 400 and neither Kohli or Pujara would score a ton no one would believe you. The first test for me was our best and most complete performance I’ve ever seen from an England side. The next three tests were some of the most pathetic defeats I’ve ever seen. Agreed. The first test was a typical subcontinent test where you need big first innings scores on a five dayer pitch to hopefully win the game. So far, so normal for India. The next three were odd, and must have been down to the pitches by and large. Same for both sides it's true and India were just much better at batting and bowling on them. But you're absolutely right, those scores are very un-subcontinental!

A lot of India's batting wasn't great so that tells you the pitches were tough. That excuse can't be used in the last test though, it was good enough for us to be making 300+ and we didn't look anywhere near it.

For so many years now it's like home and away we are two completely different teams. Didn't we lose 5-0 in India in 2016? Feels ominous ahead of an incredibly difficult summer and of course the big one next winter. It’s the same for every side to be honest. Look how good this India side are and some of the great Indian sides of the past and yet they’ve never won a series in England. New Zealand don’t lose series at home but don’t win many away. We’ll almost certainly beat India at home this summer and the attention will turn to how useless the Indian batsmen are at playing the moving ball. Not actually true. I remember India winning a Test series in England in 1971. We were undone by spin then as well, plus a bit of gentle medium pace bowling.

This pitch particularly was the perfect test match wicket with something in it for the quicks as well, criminal we didn't score 300 batting first.....

I dread to think what that trio would have done to this England batting line up.

Before the series began I expected England to lose all the tests so in a way they over achieved losing 3-1! India haven't lost a home series against anyone for years so even winning one test against them was quite a good achievement. Hopefully the younger batsmen such as Crawley, Sibley, Pope and Lawrence will learn from this tour and be stronger for it. It looks as though for our next series against NZ we will be without some or all of our IPL players

Just a reminder for those interested. The 1st T20 International between India and England starts tomorrow (Friday) at 1.30pm. Let’s hope it’s a more competitive series than the tests!

Should be a good series between two excellent sides. Wouldn’t like to predict a winner but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it finishes 3-2. Hard to predict the side but I’d go with something like: Roy Bairstow Malan Morgan Stokes Buttler Ali S Curran Jordan Rashid Archer They may well open with Buttler although I still prefer him lower down the order.

May be controversial but I would drop Roy and play Bairstow and Buttler at the top with Billings coming into the lower middle order. But I reckon you’re pretty much spot on there. Doubts about Archers fitness may mean Wood comes in perhaps?

I'm still not convinced by Billings I'll be honest, but whatever team we pick should be really competitive, plenty of experience in Indian conditions as well......

This is true, we seem to have a good half dozen or so players who can slot straight into the side without really weakening it. But Roy looked sketchy in the BBL and hasn’t really found much form for a while. On the other hand Livingstone and Vince had good BBL seasons, just shows our massive strength in depth.

Another little nudge as I wasn’t aware until now. The T20 Series is live on Sky Sports not Channel 4

And we're off. Rashid opening the bowling for the first time in T20 internationals. And a nice early wicket for Archer, game on......

Interesting selection - just the one spinner for us while India have picked 3.

Half time... India 124-7
Very professional performance in the field from England.
Now, it’s going to be interesting to see how our batsmen cope against spinners with a white ball in their hands.

It doesn't get more comfortable than that in a 20/20 does it? Outstanding performance and hopefully we can maintain it throughout the series 👍
