So onto this years Winter cricket. In December the BBL begins with some English interest but first an intriguing series with South Africa beginning November 27th with 3 T20’s followed by 3 one day games. Once again Moeen Ali picked for both squads despite an “indifferent” summer compounded by a truly awful IPL campaign. Can he produce his best form on this tour or is he mentally finished?

Moeen has had a very poor 12 months, but who is a better spinning all rounder at the moment? Liam Dawson would be the obvious replacement but I think he’s still out injured? Root could bowl more in fairness, with practice and overs under he’s belt he’s actually a good bowler, you wouldn’t want him honing his bowling skills to be to the detriment of his batting though......

It’s a fair point but I would honestly pick Joe Root ahead of him even if it meant him batting down the order. You’d be strengthening the batting even further whilst probably being a better bowler at the moment. He’s not getting in the side as a batsmen and I bet he’d bite your arm off to be the off spinner batting 6 or 7. Limited overs cricket only of course

Imagine this Buttler Roy Malan Stokes Morgan Root Curran Woakes Archer Rashid Wood That’s for T20? I like the look of that. Shame there is no place for Jonny Bairstow, maybe have him ahead of one of the all rounders (Curran or Woakes).

Think Bairstow would probably replace Buttler at the top in the one day side with Buttler moving down in place of Curran or Woakes maybe. Whichever way you look at it I don’t think we’ve ever had a stronger limited overs team. A few more holes in the test side but hopefully that’ll come together

Interesting article in ESPNCRICINFO.... Overseas players' impact in IPL 2020 - England on top, West Indies smash itIt uses “smart” stats which is a neat idea as it attempts to measure the impact and significance of runs and wickets (and strike rates). England have done pretty well, Australia somewhat less so. Watching the tournament it was interesting to see Smith struggle so much. His idiosyncratic technique, which was certainly not functioning well, leaves him very vulnerable at the start of his innings. It can’t be easy to get that working again. Warner looks shot. Archer has him on toast. I see Australia blooding some new players for the upcoming series v India. I think they are about to enter a period of transition. It will be interesting to see how their line up shapes up over the next 12 months. Edit... a graphic on how different countries impacted on the IPL

Archer and Curran were superb in the IPL. Morgan too, Stokes scored a superb century. They all played well at some point apart from Moeen of course.

Imagine this Buttler Roy Malan Stokes Morgan Root Curran Woakes Archer Rashid Wood Why is Root coming in at 6? 🤔 Well it wouldn’t be set in stone, T20 orders get juggled around depending on the match situation. It was more including him as an off spinner instead of Moeen whilst strengthening the batting.

There's no two ways about it. Cricket should be a state religion.
Can't wait to watch the India/Australia series and WITH fans. Genuinely considering flying out after lockdown.
Is there anything better in life than that feeling when your eyes in as a batsman, you're on about 40 or 50 odd, sun shining, scent of the summer grass and you're just casually cover driving the first team opener, crashing the cunt to the boundary at every opportunity (or the 4th team 14 year old part time leggy for that matter).
Cricket really is sacred.

What's the latest with the India series? Could we play it in Australia? I'm sure a fair few Brits would make the trip out in March for a bit of freedom and cricket. Otherwise I'm assuming UAE will host this?

Been to India 4 times and Australia twice on holiday. This would have been the perfect time to go after a bumper redundancy package but alas COVID is still fucking everything up🙄. Is the last time we went to Zimbabwe when we drew nil nil and David Lloyd claimed “we flippin murdered em”? 😀

Is the last time we went to Zimbabwe when we drew nil nil and David Lloyd claimed “we flippin murdered em”? 😀 The infamous test when the scores were level after 5 days. Weren’t the rules on wides in test matches changed shortly afterwards as to stop England scoring runs Zimbabwe were basically bowling 5 yards down the leg side? Ironically that wouldn’t matter in the modern age, the batsmen would just walk across his stumps and ramp it over the keeper for 6......

Although we toured doing odi series up until 2004/05. Such a shame how horribly managed Zimbabwe cricket has been. They had the potential to be a really decent cricketing nation. Sorry to hear re your redundancy mate, and yes you'll have to get a game in next time youre in India! Watching cricket on the subcontinent is heavenly.
