Finally some reward for Wood! Crucial wicket From what I’ve seen (and heard) he’s bowled very well and very fast. As you say some reward for his hard work. It’s very encouraging to have him, Archer and Stone firing. Gives us plenty of options.

Is Mo in the squad for the first 2 games in India? We're bang in trouble if he isn't.

I'm just disappointed in the fact he was getting into his rhythm in the 2nd innings of the last test but from there he's gone back to square one today.

He is. Stokes being back gives us the option of going with 3 spinners as well. In defence of Leach he desperately needs overs under his belt.... I'm just disappointed in the fact he was getting into his rhythm in the 2nd innings of the last test but from there he's gone back to square one today. Different situation and conditions. Bowling spin in a first innings, even in the subcontinent, is all about control. In the second innings it’s about wickets. The funny thing, to my mind with Leach, is I’ve thought of him having more control than threat. So, being an optimist, I’m not too concerned about this morning because he’s pretty good generally at holding up an end. His problem, as mentioned earlier, is his lack of time in the middle this year. He’ll get better at this the more he plays - after all, that is a strength for him. What was so encouraging was the turn and bounce he got in the second innings in the first test. Let’s hope he can replicate that later in this game.

Can we all agree that listening to Kumar Sangakkara is crickets equivalent to being narrated to by Morgan Freeman?
He is absolutely outstanding.

Similar day to yesterday up to lunch, some quick wickets for the two quicks, toil for the others. Soil Lanka gradually building a reasonable score.
Since lunch though it looks like the wicket is starting to turn to turn.
Which will make things very interesting when we come to bat.

Should be an interesting second day that’s for sure.

I think I may shed a tear the day Jimmy hangs up his boots, we're sure as hell going to miss him when he's gone.

I think I may shed a tear the day Jimmy hangs up his boots, we're sure as hell going to miss him when he's gone. Absolutely brilliant performance in the conditions. Just read on Cricinfo he has a better average in Asia than Kapil Dev, some achievement. He and Wood have been superb. Less said about the rest the better. Got a feeling we’re going to be in a massive hole at the end of today👀

So all 10 wickets went to the seamers with Curran buying the last wicket with a half tracker Perera obligingly lobbed to Leach in the deep (it was a fine catch running in mind).
That’s a rare occurrence in Asia but does happen. I doubt it has ever happened before with a team batting 5 sessions.
Edit... The last time it happened in Sri Lanka was in 1994 the BBC informs us when Pakistan’s seamers did the damage. A quick check in cricinfo tells us Sri Lanka were dismissed for 71 in 28 overs.

Sibley won’t get to double figures in four tests if he plays in India.
He’s got lead in his boots......

Our openers have so far failed to reach double figures in 5 completed innings.
I wonder if that is a record.
Edit... make that 6 completed innings for our openers. Oh, dear...

How is Burns against spin? I can't really remember... Can't be worse than this pair surely.

Oh... and worth noting we just bowled 140 overs without our spinners taking a wicket. Sri Lanka’s spinners have taken 2 wickets in a handful.
The explanation is, of course, quite simple. Their spinners are better than ours, particularly Embuldeniya who is excellent, while our opening batsmen aren’t very good at playing spin.
I guess we should be grateful that Sri Lanka made such a colossal arse of their first innings in the first test.

Which makes you wonder why one of our better batsmen against spin is taking a two test sabbatical after this test.

If you truly wanted to go horses for courses then Keaton Jennings would be the first name on the team sheet, he’s an excellent player of spin certainly head and shoulders above Burns, Crawley and Sibley.....
