This is the first time, I think, we have named a squad for just a part of an overseas tour.
It’s an odd approach.
Why not just announce a larger squad for the entire tour. It’s not like the ICC has regulations on the size of a touring party (I don’t think so anyway).

I’ll be honest I’m still not convinced..... Well he might want to go home and see the family🤷🏻♂️ Who knows. He played well in the last test so to take him out for India would suggest there’s other things at play. And don’t forget he came in as Burns’ replacement so now he’s back maybe he always knew he was for the chop.

Because whenever he goes to India he’ll have to face some quarantine period - albeit it seems the Indian authorities haven’t agreed yet what that should be for the squad that is arriving. Why put him through that if they don’t intend to play him. It all seems very odd.

If you’re Bairstow you know you’re not in the starting XI if everyone is fit and available and you’d want to be doing what you can to rectify that. But it is what it is, an opportunity for someone else to make them self undroppable......

I’m sure it would have been more straightforward otherwise. Looking forward to getting up at 4 am tomorrow anyway

Am I mad for setting my alarm for 4.15 tomorrow?... I love Test Cricket too much to miss the first ball from Jimmy.

Am I mad for setting my alarm for 4.15 tomorrow?... I love Test Cricket too much to miss the first ball from Jimmy. Nope. 04:00 for me, a cup of coffee and back up to the spare room to watch it on my laptop in the warm. Quick 30 minute snooze at lunchtime, then jump in the shower and at my desk in the study with my work laptop and my laptop running side by side for the rest of the days play......

And he strikes for a 3rd time !! 603 and counting for Sir Jimmy. England have a real problem. Despite being at the back end of their careers Anderson and Broad are still, by a considerable distance, our best bowlers. They are both awesome bowlers on their day, which, incredibly, is most days! Which means both should play at the Gabba in a year’s time. But, we know that ain’t a recipe for success down under. So what do we do to prepare for the Ashes in terms of bowler development or selection. Maybe we just stick to the old selection mantra of don’t overthink, just select your best players. Anyway, that discussion is maybe for another day. For now we can enjoy Jimmy’s bowling which is a thing of beauty. I’ll also enjoy Angelo Mathews batting. He is a cracking player.

Phenomenal really from Jimmy, 6 runs conceded from 54 balls and 3 wickets. Time for the others to step up now.

That's why I've gone for 5-0 when we eventually get there. Plus Anderson generally isn't as effective in Australia even when fit. I think it's also the Aussies next home series (if we discount Afghanistan's one Test in Australia!) after the India loss so they'll be smarting and have a point to prove.

Olly Stone could be a big player in the Ashes, but we somehow need to give him game time so he can get overs under his belt and prove that his injury woes are behind him. Him and Archer firing would give us some real good pace, Stone gets some decent movement as well........

I have a confession to make...
I’ve been watching the Big Bash this morning.
I blame Michael Vaughan.
While taking my morning constitutional listening to TMS he mentioned Alex Hales had started well batting for Sydney Somethingorothers. When I got home I was tempted so switched from Sky Sports to BT Sport. And my fecklessness has been rewarded - Hales is still going strong well on the way to a century.

He is one of the best limited over batsmen in the world. Let’s hope Morgan and co welcome him back into the fold.
