Sad storyA sad story and a timely reminder here for those trying to cut down. Poor diet, a lack of exercise and an increase in alcohol appear to be the perfect storm. Today is a good day to start making some changes... Some of the comments on the sentinel are a disgrace

I woke up feeling borderline depressed, until Iโd had my morning brew after drinking for the first time in a while yesterday. I donโt suffer from depression either, itโs just how the booze made me feel. When drinking regularly I must have got used to feeling like that. Like I said, fuck it off ๐ I think it is a depressant overall, so not surprising you felt like that. In small measures it acts as a stimulant which is why you feel quite good/high-spirited after a glass, then it becomes a depressant as you drink more. Environment/circumstances of drinking have a huge impact for me. Drink on my own or in miserable company or shite pubs and it leads to a real downer the next day. Drink with good company in friendly pubs and I'm still buzzing the next day, despite the well-earned hangover. Mindful drinking is a bit of a wanky sounding concept, but it helps keep me on the straight and narrow if I'm conscious of when and why I'm drinking. And above all, it means I enjoy it more when I do.

Some of the comments on the sentinel are a disgrace I always read the local press wherever I'm staying, and the comments section are without exception an absolute sewer. Never read below the line now.

Some of the comments on the sentinel are a disgrace I always read the local press wherever I'm staying, and the comments section are without exception an absolute sewer. Never read below the line now. The Sentinel is a fucking disgrace in itself and an affront to journalism. I thought it might improve when they fucked off its arrogant shithead of an editor but it looks like Reach PLC has given up any pretence of it being a legitimate news outlet and is now actively recruiting for 'SEO Content Writers' (i.e. kids getting paid peanuts for churning out clickbait shite). It's a shame really as once (a long time ago mind) it was a trusted paper with a good record of campaign journalism. Now though, it's just lowest common denominator trash designed to elicit clicks by demonising great sections of the city it claims to represent (ever notice how they always include 'benefit claimant' or 'single mum' as descriptors despite that information having no relevance whatsoever to the story?), purely to wind up bigots, racists, nimbys and curtain twitchers, all so that they can hold up 'engagement' stats to advertisers and flog them ad packages for top dollar. Its editorial policy and the way in which it conducts itself with the community of Stoke on Trent is utterly contemptible and some of its reportage downright irresponsible (not to mention so poorly written and/or facile that it's embarrassing). And then they have the brass neck to publish this: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/newspapers-websites-like-sentinel-sotlive-4568666I could go on about this utter shit rag but I really must see about getting my bollocks reattached after reading the tone-deaf slick of bum sluice on that link, as I appear to have laughed them clean off ๐ Fuck The Sentinel. It actively despises its own readership, encourages division and hatred, regularly fails to hold power to account and is incredibly damaging to this city and how it's perceived both by its own inhabitants and the wider world.

5 months today still no Alcohol, been several close calls after a loss ! but determined to last to Xmas A short cautionary tale. I'd been off the grog for almost two years and reached the point where I never gave alcohol a second thought, that was until Easter last year. I'd been made redundant but cracked on the job hunting (as you do) but needed a short break. I came to this part of Wales to see some old railway friends for a couple of days and on the first night thought what the heck I'll have a drink, what could possibly go wrong. When I came to in intensive care in Aberystwyth hospital having had a cardiac arrest (twice) in the street and 20 solid minutes of CPR and been zapped twice the doctors said I'd had a severe reaction to the alcohol and basically my body just couldn't cope with it. So I'm now another 18 months down the line, teetotal because I have to be and I just don't have the option of even a sniff of the stuff. One sip at a time as drinking returns for those who stop.
