I cut the evil drink out 20 years ago. Two weeks of the doctor's finest antibiotics to get rid of a nasty looking cyst under the armpit* and no booze. The cyst went and never started back on the booze. One of the best things I ever did in life * No cheeky re-writes please Orbs

Willpower Apart from that🤣 There must be something to take the edge off. I often go and get a couple of bottles of something despite not really wanting it. Suppose it doesn’t help living 100 yards from Bargain Booze🤦🏻♂️😀 You don't actually need it mate it's that simple. Think of it as tax you're giving to the government like a fool

They're 22 now and following my example never let a drop pass their lips drink like fish

It is basically willpower. I use the gym as motivation and also started drawing and painting and hoping do some travelling next year with all the money I'm saving. Got a lot more patience with things and not always rushing get home for a fix. I'm not planning on being tee total forever but the positives definately outweigh all the negatives More money. More patience more time. Better judgement of things less of a belly. better sleep resulting in more energy. Socially it is hard but I'm positive il meet new friends who don't want get wrecked all the time

Very seldom drink in the house, only the pub about 25 units a week. Did Stoptober few years back didn’t change diet or exercise levels, lost 9 pounds. Problem is, for me anyway, is you soon slip in to the old habit. Tbh, I felt great and looked healthier, problem is the loss of socialising is boring and I can’t drink pop in the pub, it’s crap. In the 90’s 10ks, half’s and full marathons. Now due Angiogram, couldn’t believe when GP said in January ( delayed by Co Vid) think we better have a look at your heart. Not sure if drink has been a factor, but a good chance I guess.

Once I'd got over the idea that I needed alcohol, which has been pointed out, we don't, I just kept a glass of cloudy lemonade near me and gradually (like the fags) you just get used to not having the booze. But DON'T do what I did and put loads of freshly squeezed lemon juice in it, your gums recede and teeth start becoming loose.

Almost teetotal these days, although I do have the odd glass of red wine every now and again. Don't miss it to be honest, I actually quite like some of the non-alcohol options on the market these days......

Best thing I ever did. Only drink rum on rare occasions. Feel better, sleep better and saved a fair bit. One of the worst drugs available. Get rid or cut down as much as possible. What’s your secret or how did you do it? I would say I quickly realised that on the nights I didn’t drink I slept through the night because I didn’t wake up needing a piss or wake up with a raging thirst. I was more productive in the day and just felt better ‘in meself’ I would say the secret isn’t really willpower but it’s just the realisation that I know I’ll feel better tomorrow if I don’t drink tonight. It’s more of a mind shift of not wanting to drink because the feeling better etc during the day outweighs the ‘good’ feeling of drinking during the night. I do enjoy a drink more now as it’s more ‘special’ when I do. I wouldn’t give up totally but once a week is perfect for me. Out on Saturday night for example. You will certainly feel better physically and mentally if you cut down and have certain days where you don’t drink at all. Hopefully you will then increase the non drinking days because you feel so much better the next day. Good luck!

Gave up for 12 months in 2015. Changed my habits. I dont mess about now. Still enjoy binge drinking when it's the right night, probably a couple of times a month. Very rarely waste my liver on "having a couple"

I drink more or less every night and have done for at least twenty years. I’m about to do a month off and start exercising again (I’m generally reasonably fit but lockdown has hit me a bit), which I can do and have done many times before. I’ll feel kind of better for it but in a month I’ll go back to it and it’ll only be a matter of time before I’m on 4-8 beers a night again.
Somehow I never quite get the “never felt better” thing, even though I can see changes and don’t get hangovers and sleep better and all that. Oh well. One of these days maybe I’ll just give up completely, which deep down I know I probably should (and could) do. Just willpower, as someone already mentioned.

There definitely getting better But I genuinely find the very low alcohol ones 0.5 abv or less are a lot better Erdinger (blue label) a German wheat beer 0.4%abv is very good

I've never started. 55 years now. The same with coffee. And not for religious reasons.
But I read in August, the risk of getting ALS is increased if you don't drink alcohol and/or coffee occasionally. So I will give it a 2nd thought, at least regarding gluten free beer and vine. Coffee gives me tremendous instant pain, every drop of it. I don't know why.

I have to be careful with alcohol (anything psychoactive) because, as fun as it is to drink, my mental health is quite fragile and I have extremely dark moods during hangovers. In fact, an overly exuberant drinking session can knock me off balance for a week or more. Throw in other drugs and I’m a real mess.
Saying all that I’m on the piss tomorrow.

I'm very careful with coffee now Was sitting In a cafe/bar with a mate a few years back and we finished up drinking a small espresso with every beer Very strange feeling being pissed to sober to pissed to sober in seconds Still go in the same bar but haven't touched a espresso since
