Interesting view that. I wonder if this meeting he has invited the other home nations to will help or hinder. As with all politicians, there are some mighty egos to be dealt with and I’m not sure they are capable of overriding these in the interests of the people they represent. Sturgeon’s reticence on an Independence referendum is the cause of much angst on the part of the more radical wing of the nationalist movement typified by Wings Over Scotland who make much the same point in this article, The Day Nothing Changed. It was also part of the reason for Alex Salmond setting up the Alba Party (who performed dismally on Thursday). The point is, from Sturgeon perspective, she wants to win a referendum not just hold one. She is savvy enough to realise she doesn’t need to convince the convinced, it’s the folk who have doubts and concerns she needs to win over. She doesn’t think that has happened yet. Salmond and the fundamentalists believe they can bluff, bully and bluster their way to a win. Anyway, that upcoming meeting will be fun... Not. While they do have important things to discuss, their mutual dislike of each other will ensure they won’t work well together. The biggest problem for Sturgeon is folk recognise the importance of the vaccine in helping the UK counter the threat of the vaccine which, thanks to the EU’s problems, does undermine a key plank of her Independence argument... UK / Tories bad, EU good. That will really annoy her!
