Powell's got a great footballing brain and technique, but for me he doesn't impact games anywhere near as often as he should. 3 of his 4 goals, plus 1 of his 4 assists have come in the two games where we romped home and the opposition made pub teams look like Barca. That's one goal and 3 assists in his other 20 appearances. Lack of application is why he's spent most of his career in the lower leagues and not the Prem. Fucking hell, you have to go some to be this churlish. His performance was a significant factor in why we 'romped home'. Stoke City have not, in recent times, been given to 'romping home' and we really shouldn't take that for granted. He has made 12 league starts since New Year and in that time he was four goals, four assists. He also played a key role in both goals against Cardiff (who started the day on the cusp of the play offs when we played them) and against West Brom (top of the league when we played them). That, to me, seems like a pretty significant 'impact' during the club's best run of results for a fair old while. It's a message board where people air different opinions. Try not to get so upset when you see one you disagree with. I've based my view on what he's done since the start of the season, not since the New Year. He's a good player with good technique and a good footballing brain. A pleasure to watch when he's on form. But my view is that he lacks application consistently. If he didn't, he wouldn't be playing for us. I'm not going to try to change your opinion, and you won't change mine. If you're still seething then I'll leave the last word to you, but I won't bother reading it.

It's hard not to be annoyed by an opinion that really just doesn't bear up to serious scrutiny, which yours really doesn't. Estrangedsonoffaye's post articulated that rather better than mine did. I don't see why you'd base it on his appearances since the start of the season when his appearances prior to January 1st were in set ups that didn't suit him in a dumpster fire of a team stuck in the habit of losing and with a completely clueless manager? Since the turn of the year he's actually been pretty damn consistent for us. It's remarkable how creative players are held up to such higher standards than the dogs of war. Did this mistrust exist before TP, and his success merely legitimise it? Has it always been like this?

Is Glen Whelan available? Not joking, he could do a job as a DM for nine games. Of course he is available - for Fleetwood! Every now and then I reach for the comfort blanket 🥺
