That's how I feel watching him lumbering around not breaking sweat, in my opinion he's an over payed journeyman out for a last big pay day he doesn't look to me as if he gives a toss about the club, but opinions hey. How can you tell by looking? Better then vokes. Probably on less wages than Vokes. Cost the same as Vokes. It's such a shame so many players don't want to be at our 'fantastic' club....

One way you can tell whether a player has the club's interests at heart is how he interacts with and is perceived by the other players. Vokes does fine in those regards.
He hasn't scored for a while, do you really think that doesn't bother him? Then take a look at his body language after his, granted, glaring miss vs Leicester.

Any that focuses on winging crosses into the box. He scored 20 and 15 in his two champ seasons with Burnley so there clearly is one, but while we're playing a system that suits no one we aren't going to get any of the current strikers firing. His legs still worked back then though..... Thats true. Just wheel him into the box at the start of the game and hope Clarke can smack it off his face.

Still better than Vokes and Gregory. If we can shift one or both of those I’d have him around the squad. Despite the injuries, he’s still a decent age for a footballer and as a Championship bench player is more than adequate (we just need to hold our noses on how much we are paying him for this).

Again, I find this just a baffling opinion based on what we’ve actually seen from him. In what way is he better? He isn’t quick, he doesn’t influence games, he can’t control a football, he isn’t good in the air, he’s almost entirely ineffective and anonymous and he’s a proven failure in the very system this manager favours?

Imagine being told that you can have any striker you want to guarantee promotion - and you pick Benny Kafobe

Yes. He doesn't look like he gives a fuck to me at all. You need to watch it again in your usual unprejudiced manner... I don't need to. I've watched him for the last 12 months and the general all round lack of effort is there. There's absolutely no urgency to anything he does either. I'm shocked he doesn't get more stick for it tbh.

I don’t rate him either but not sure he’s a complete write off. The bloke scored 22 in 46 before joining Bournemouth. At Bournemouth he made a reasonable pass at being a Premier League footballer in a team with plenty of attacking competition. He made a decent start to his Bristol City career before an ACL injury. While he’s a very limited footballer we are currently a very average Championship team. If the alternatives are Gregory (33 next season and playing at the highest level of his career) and Vokes (32 next season and looks absolutely shot) then yes I’d take Afobe as a squad player over those.

He was used differently at Bournemouth and even then the consensus seemed to be that he wasn't much more than a poacher. What specific strengths is he bringing to the table? Gregory is bang average but you can at least back his work ethic and ability to press from the front. Vokes has been useless but he will at least win it in the air once in a while. Afobe doesn't even have those things going for him.

Agreed can’t stand him, he’s always looked like a player who just doesn’t want to be here when I’ve seen him play for Stoke bit like the bloke who signed him, both had an issue with our fans too.

Very similar, l'm guessing. Both signed with a quick return to the Prem in mind (and in Vokes's case, l'd assume also to get the high waged Crouch off the wage bill). We won't be paying that kind of money again any time soon, we've surely learned our lesson.

I’m not advocating starting him, but I think as a bench option he’s reasonable where we want to add some goal threat. He did a job for Wolves in their promotion season coming off the bench and could see a role for him doing the same for us. Vokes or Gregory offer no goal threat currently and that’s before their legs start to deteriorate any further.

Again though, he was seen purely as a poacher almost to the point of being a passenger and could only really operate with a strike partner. He's a proven failure in the system the manager actually wants to play and while he's a reasonable finisher, he doesn't actually get into those positions and his lack of all round play as a lone striker actually diminishes our overall goal threat.

For the last 20-30 minutes having a poacher you can throw on isn’t a bad thing. It surely beats throwing on a knackered Sam Vokes and knowing that he’ll plod around without offering any goal threat. Without Campbell we look very short on decent finishers. If we can find one then great, but they don’t grow on trees.

We won't be paying that kind of money again any time soon, we've surely learned our lesson. You're sure about that? How will we get better players when we get to the Promised Land? By the time we get there wages will have skyrocketed beyond anything we've ever seen before. Unless there's a major economic recession that affects even pro football.

Yes but if you’re playing one up front and that one is a passenger then you’re going to find it harder to create those chances in the first place. A lone striker’s role is as much to contribute to the bud up as it is to be a finisher. At least Vokes might Frankenstein a flick on to someone with a fair wind.
