Now you mention it I do remember the Doobs deal. It's a murky world. I'm sure Leeds were paying Duberry either 23 or 27k a week to not play for them. Madness. If I remember correctly the rumour was that we were paying £6k a week & Leeds were still picking up the rest of his contract. Of course we had to pay another 50p every time he headed the ball ( hence his 50p head nickname😉)

As he came on a free I guess it will only be a percentage of his salary? If he earns £12K per week, as indicated, and we decide to pay £4K and Sheffield £8K it still gives us more wiggle room, doesn't it? If he leaves on a permanent transfer we won’t be paying ANY of his wages. BM May be a smallish (compared to a years salary) golden handshake?

Good luck Lee. Unlike most of the wasters over the last few years you always gave 100% on the pitch.

I notice he got a thank you message, so he's probably gone quietly and cheaply.
Good stuff, To.

Good luck to him. He was no waster, just a bit of a meh player. In reality league 1 was probably his true level but he played championship because he grafted for it.

That's what I thought. We can't be paying the wages of a player we don't own, Shirley. We might have to give him a pay off to cover the difference of course. When Eidur Gudjonsson was at Fulham three different clubs ( w e we're one) we're contributing to his £90k a week salary when we signed Duberry Leeds we're still paying majority of his salary that's two Stoke related examples, goes on all the time, all over the place football finances are nothing if not bizarre I can’t see a club perilously close to getting buggered by the FFP badger agreeing to contribute to a player’s salary they don’t own. I accept it might go on, but I’d be stunned if we were doing anything other than just paying these guys off with a one-off payment as they walk out the door.

Didn’t mind him personally. There was a period where he was decent up front with Hogan I think it was.
Put a lot of effort in. Which is more then can be said for others. But importantly wasn’t good enough.
Missed some absolute sitters which have pretty much defined his time at stoke.

Just like so many other players at Stoke, he could have been good alongside the right player. There were glaring holes in his game, like hitting the target, but he was a really decent pressing forward. May have worked well alongside Fletcher. Not bothered he’s gone.

Another paid off. How is the person who sanctioned these deals still in a job. What about some praise for the CEO who got rid of them and the managers who wanted them!

It always baffled me why Vokes was getting game time last season ahead of Gregory when, for all his flaws, Gregory was clearly the better player with better movement and graft? It could be financial, maybe we needed to loan one of them out and Gregory got interest while no one was interested in Vokes so he was the one who had to go? Football wise it certainly made no sense to have Vokes ahead of Gregory in the pecking order.
That said, neither were good enough and both needed replacing so to get rid of both of them this summer is good business.

This has been a very good transfer window for us, and the club deserve massive credit, Shipping out all those players on big wages, Wimmer, Vokes, ect, was no easy task and they have done so well. Not to mention replacing Collins so promptly with a very capable replacement. We even brought in a striker. I really don't think we could have asked for much more considering the financial situation.
