A Stoke source has told Football Insider that Souttar has turned down interest from nine other clubs to make the return to Joey Barton’s team.

That's a good move for him I think. Barton obviously rates him highly so if he's not incarcerated, Souttar should get a full season in him.

Certainly a good idea I reckon, he did very well there by all accounts and it's a position we have more than adequate cover for.

It'll be interesting to see if Collins follows him out on loan.

If he’s not going to be involved here then that’s the best option to go back out on loan

Spose Collins must be streaks ahead of him if true

Really hope he makes the grade. It would be great to see a Collins / Souttar partnership in a couple of seasons. Must be because I grew up in the Smith / Bloor / Pejic / Marsh era but a home grown (even if they are not local lads) defence gives a feeling of security !

It'll be interesting to see if Collins follows him out on loan. I think he will. As it stands, suppose it depends on BMI. If BMI doesn't leave, Collins will be loaned out. But if BMI goes, not sure what good it'd do for him to be stuck here as fourth choice.

This probably tells me that Souttar has no long term future at the club?
He’s now at the point where he should be pushing for a first team spot given his age and how well he did at fleetwood last season but with what looks like another year away and we are purchasing other centre halves that’s The direction it’s pointing towards
Very sad

We just don't seem to like taking risks with our younger players, possibly Edwards aside. Souttar and Lindsay played at the same level last year, yet we've splashed a couple of million on one and loaned our own player out. If Jones' comments last night are anything to go by to stand a chance of succeeding here, the young lads need to play out of their skins to get a chance whilst the same experienced lads can just plod on. That probably sounds a lot more negative than it needs to be and I just want us to do as well as possible this season. Lindsay above Collins and Souttar just feels a bit wrong to me, unless Jones thinks he's an absolute superstar.

If we remain outside the premier League I see him taking Shawcross' squad spot when his contact expires. This loan gives him the experience to be ready to accept that challenge or be bombed out.

It's a sad state of affairs. I'll agree with you on this. Campbell - not durable - on loan Verlinden - not a position available - won't play. Collins - Too much competition - on loan Edwards - Won't get a look in now Smith is here. Souttar - Too much competition - on loan Doesn't look like we're promoting our academy in any way.

Lindsay above Collins and Souttar just feels a bit wrong to me, unless Jones thinks he's an absolute superstar. If he's signed by the manager, any manager, he's bound to be given priority. If he's developed by the academy team, his time will come, but not necessarily under the incumbent manager, or any manager that did not see him develop under his watch. That's not at all being negative, it's reality; managers everywhere are terribly sensitive with regard to such matters. They want a team in their image, not somebody else's. Some people will point to the six kids who started vs Wrexham, but how many of them will be in the starting lineup in a few weeks? My guess is none, though they could be given odd minutes over the course of a 48+ game season. Though that may more be as alibying rather than as part of a well thought strategy. My guess again is that of those players who were in Holland or played at Wrexham all but Edwards, Campbell, Verlinden, and Collins will be given frees at the end of this season or at best the next. That would be a great shame because there is potential in them. But with nine new signings plus Rowett's leftovers plus the dinasours still here, chances will be limited.

Campbell - toughen up or your skill is wasted - it's up to you, son Verlinden - will be needed over a 46 game season and as a surprise element against certain teams, as an option Collins - as per Verlinden. Will have lapses of form due to his age but grind of a long season could harm him. Use wisely. Edwards - he has as much chance as Smith if form is the criteria, especially as he has last season in his 'credit bank'. Souttar - another year on loan won't harm a 20 year old Can see the top four playing a part in Cup games and when injuries and form lapses arise. Depends on how you wish to see things - as a 'NJ optimist' or a 'past seasons manic depressive Stokie'? 'Always look on the bright side of Life'

Makes sense for MON to get an idea if Souttar is ready for our first team squad and there is still time to give him another loan opportunity if that is a better option

You can really see another reason why MON was brought to the club with his financial business knowledge and FFP looming on us. If there's one manager who understands the situation it's him.

Collins. But it’s been a while since I’ve seen Harry play. We need somebody a bit quicker than Harry imo.
