That Man Utd comment is cringey as fuck.
So because they’re struggling at the minute it’s ok that we are? That’s up there with what’s all the fuss about for me.
That article just proves to me they honestly thought that chucking a shit load of money at it, was going to guarantee promotion.
Are we ever going to improve whilst the clueless fucks at the top remain?
Football has moved on, they haven’t.

We stand and fall by the managers they appoint, and that's basically guesswork in most cases. The same Chairman who appointed Macari and Pulis also appointed Ball and Kamara. Win some, lose some.

“Well no-one is to blame. You make judgements. It was a sound judgement." You make judgements to the best of your ability. Hindsight determines whether the judgement was of sufficient calibre. You don't describe decisions that lead to failure as sound judgement, it shows unwillingness to learn from mistakes. Clubs that continually seem to make good appointments are not lucky. They have people who can judge potential and character.

Unless he wants Rowett coming out and criticising our club at a time where we need everything going for us, he’ll keep quiet on the problems. The problems lie with Rowett and his poor recruitment choice, which led to a complete imbalance all over the pitch, and his failure to keep the fans on side. Perhaps the club would face a backlash they don’t need if they start blatantly pointing the finger at the ex manager.

I maintain that Rowett was a fine appointment and the right one that we needed at the time. For whatever reason, he couldn't dispel the stink of 2.5 years of decline and rot. But with the benefit of hindsight, he was far too industrial and his approach to going to work was not dissimilar to anyone that doesn't enjoy their work.
I rarely find Coates' comments insightful, more humdrum to be honest. But the fact that he's too nice to see where the blame should lie is alarming.

On the occasion that you remotely listen to what they say it’s the biggest load of bollocks you’ve ever heard, well Peter tonight’s prize goes firmly to you.

In the face of it, most would have thought Rowett would be a solid appointment. The blame for this season lies firmly with Rowett.

I think the amount of money Gary Rowett wasted was unforgiveable. He spent £50m and made us worse. Things like buying Afobe to play as a lone striker and out and out wingers to play in a 4-3-3 were just mental decisions. It was quite spectacular how it was even possible to manage such a feat when you think about it. I do wonder whether the amount of money he had at his disposal was his downfall. He almost went about things like a kid in a sweet shop. When you look at his signings individually you can't really say that any of them should have been as bad as they turned out today but put them together and the result was horrendous. It could potentially be an issue with less experienced managers. Had he ever been given that amount of money in one window before? I very much doubt it. I also very much doubt out "recruitment team" were any help whatsoever. Will be interesting to see what is spent this window and whether it spent wisely.

The buck stops at the top. Rowett may have underperformed and made some questionable signings but who allowed him to make those signings ? He didn't have a free hand. There are people to blame Mr Coates and you are one of those people

As my old dad used to say "Stinking fish starts at the head".
His comment: "I felt we should have a minimum requirement of being in the top-six, I didn’t think that was unrealistic given the squad we’d got and the money we’d spent" requires the following observations:
1. "given the squad we'd got" demonstrates the lack of appreciation of how bad we were the previous season and and a sense of nonchalance. We had a squad that conceded a huge amount of goals and was clearly the weakest in the Prem.
Under Lambert we were incapable of creating and scoring goals and our most creative player Shaqiri left.
There was a desperate requirement to strengthen the defence which Zouma had left, but we left it till the end of the transfer window to sign Williams and Martina who's loss of form was alarming.
There has been a desperate need to bring in creative players, since Arni left and Bojan was dispensed with. The best striker in the land would struggle to score with our lack of creation. McClean is not a creator and Ince has been moved on by ever club he has played for.
2. "the money we'd spent" presumably means the money Rowett spent, but alarm bells should have been ringing with the money we'd spent of Berahino, Wimmer, and Imbula, or does Coates think that signings is 100% down to the manager and the recruitment team are blameless? It would appear so since they are still intact.
3. On the subject of recruitment, the club is clearly in a mess. They stuck too long with Hughes, which I understand, but then made a hash of replacing him, having been turned down by at least two potential managers (we don't know who else was sounded out) before settling on Lambert, which proved to be a failure. With the players mentioned above and managers chosen, we must be the world's worst club at picking employees who are either useless, or have a lousy attitude.
4. I have some sympathy with the appointment of Rowett. I welcomed his appointment and wrongly assumed the club had made a wise choice. I soon smelt a rat last summer with Rowett's comments; after over 35 years in management I can detect someone who is full of bull. The selection of players signed, pre-season, first 10 matches all confirmed my suspicion that Rowett was out of his depth. He managed to batten down the hatches and stop the losses, but at the expense of stopping scoring and some dire football. When we started losing again after an undefeated run, he clearly had to go.
5. I welcomed the appointment of Jones. Regrettably he has had to contend with all the problems Rowett faced, plus the problems Rowett created, plus Berahino going off the rails again, which might not make much difference on the pitch, but must be very damaging in the dressing room and make some honest hard-working pros wonder what sort of an organization they are working in.
6. Finally PC has got to realise that when all the picking of players and managers is going consistently wrong, that it must have something to do with those doing the picking. He needs to change the board members.

If Bet365 went to shit would Denise say "no one was to blame"?
No, absolutely not - heads would roll, people would be held accountable for their failings.
Multiple people are to blame Peter, and you're one of them for not holding people accountable and allowing us to blindly walk into the black hole we currently find ourselves in.
But hey, "what's all the fuss about?!"

If you don't fancy reading the article this is the entirety of the quotes: "We were hoping, obviously, to do much better. I felt we should have a minimum requirement of being in the top-six, I didn’t think that was unrealistic given the squad we’d got and the money we’d spent. It obviously didn’t happen, so hugely disappointing. We took Gary Rowett, we thought it was a good appointment, there was no reason to think otherwise. He knew our division, it seemed the right decision, but didn’t work, that happens in football I’m afraid. We under-achieved. I think that’s a fair comment. Why that went wrong, none of us perhaps will ever know. But it didn’t work and logically it should have done. Well no-one is to blame. You make judgements. It was a sound judgement. You rely on your manager to produce results and Gary didn’t produce results and as a result of that he left the club. There’s a little club down the road here called Manchester United and they have their difficulties with finding managers. It’s nothing new and can happen to any club and does happen to any club. It’s difficult because it’s his career and he’s not a bad man or anything like that,” he said. He wasn’t not working hard, so it’s always a human reaction and I’ve never enjoyed sacking anybody, but we do it because you think it’s the right thing to do. You don’t do it because you enjoy doing it. You feel for the other party because it’s a disappointment for them, but it’s something that’s part of the job." End. It's a bit weird, an article that could equally well have been written in January, nothing at all relating to the 2nd half of the season under a new manager. There must be a Part 2 coming

Why when it comes to Stoke do they seem like they scribble their names on the wall with crayons?
