Melt Banana @ Rebellion tonight... absolute carnage, 60 minutes of mental energy, loved it, ears are ringing like fuck now though. Had a great time at EOTR festival at the weekend, hope you enjoyed it aswell Jimmy? Highlights for me were Jockstrap, CMAT, Slowdive, Phosphorescent, King Hannah, Nation of Language, Casisdead, Sleater Kinney and Floating Points. Didn't see a bad set all weekend though tbh. People and weather were great too as usual. Already bought tickets for next year. Sorry for the delayed review on EOTR...had to miss all of Sunday due to a very ill dog at home. I saw everything Dom did except for anything on the Sunday although I chose Richard Hawley (who was great) over Slowdive. Special mentions also to Curtis Harding and the great Lemon Twigs, plus Norwich country rockers Brown Horse. Saw Laetitia Sadier, Ricahrd Dawson and Bonnie Prince Billy on the Thursday evening and they were all great. I kicked myself for missing an early morning chat by Joe Boyd and would have attempted to see Stewart Lee on Sunday lunch.

They were queueing two hours for Stewart Lee and still not getting in so you didn't miss much there mate, daft scheduling. BPB was ace, was glad to tick him off tej list. Thought Woods stage a touch too big for Richard Dawso, was good but not as good as hid garden set a few years back. brown horse were great I agree

A cracking night on a sliding scale, The Bites for me best band , full on set energetic and loved every second. Treatment very good but do feel their momentum has lapsed, decent songs and delivered well. I didn't last for all of Dead Daisies, bit soulless for me, done well but too many covers dropped in and left me a bit cold even if they're consummate professionals. Special mention for Doug Aldrich's glorious hair, blimey he's more Harmony Hairspray than the adverts

Got two stupidly cheap tickets for The Dead Daisies at O2 Ritz Manchester on Tuesday going spare. PM for details if anyone's interested. Going to see Aussie blues artist Kara Grainger at The Garibaldi in Northampton today. 3pm matinee show (that's a new one on me)

Dead Daisies were awesome last night, not done a full blooded rock gig like this for a while so it was a re-education watching some of the attendees Eight quid a pint was a bit of a shock to the system as well

On my way home from the first gig in over 10 years from Moby at Manchester Apollo.
Started off very strongly and probably a bit more ravey than most would have anticipated, which was great but he did throw out 'Go' two songs in, which was a bit of a waste imo
Did lose the crowd on more than one occasion which led to the inevitable crowd chatter and there was an odd cover of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash late on which was a bit weird.
Decent gig overall but again spoilt by the talkers, in particular 3 absolute pricks near us who spoke through the entire show. I spoke to one of them about it but he was oblivious to as to why I was annoyed. Had to walk off in the end.Such a prick.
The Apollo hasn't moved on at all in terms of speed of service and facilities since I last went, which didn't help. All the O2 venues seem to be eye wateringly expensive these days. Will have to be a special gig to get me back there in a hurry.
6/10

Ryley Walker in lovely little venue Strange Brew in Bristol. An acoustic gig but his finger-picking and strumming was top class.

Hmm, it's me again.
Songs of Joni Mitchell concert at St Georges in Bristol. Some good stuff, some average. It makes you realise how unique the real thing is. Think they're in Manchester soon.

Got last minute cheap tickets to The Sex Pistols with Frank Carter on vocals at Manchester Academy tonight. Really enjoyable night. Much preferred it to seeing them with Lydon up front tbh. Extremely reasonable beer (compared to other venues) at £5-5.60 a pint

Just got back to my hotel after watching Linkin Park at The 02.
They were fucking brilliant for the whole 2 hours and the new female lead singer, stepped into the role seamless

Naturally since their return in LA there’s been loads of controversy ref Emily Armstrong and her support for a convicted rapist, which she distanced herself during the trial? (Forgive me if that’s inaccurate) Plus some moaning about it ruining Chester’s legacy? Bigger tour next year, so I’m looking forward to the new album and hopefully I will jump on that tour? Whether they could headline Download with the new line up, I’m not sure?

Iron Maiden tickets on sale this week for what looks like their last big run next summer, mix of arena shows plus one I've been predicting for years , they're finally doing a big open air one at West Ham. Only able to do a couple of shows due to a family wedding (damn them, I've seen Bruce Dickinson and co more times in last 10 years than that particular relation!) but got presale tickets yesterday for Manc Co-op and West Ham. Ticketmaster again a shitshow as demand was heavy and many of the good tix were bundled up with overpriced hotel deals ,I managed just the tickets but a mate got stung for £270 each for 2 shows which is £109 gig price plus the rest for a hotel room. To be honest, when the big bands I love that still tour (Maiden being one of the last) stop doing so it'll be a relief of sorts with the way the ticketing and costs are shooting up.
I see a few of you have seen Linkin Park this month and reckon they'll sell like hotcakes and cause more Ticketmaster chaos!

When addressing the crowd in between some songs, Mike Shinoda had to stop talking just to take it all in. You could see that he was taken aback by the reception they were getting. The new musicians, in particular the new drummer, were amazing too. Funnily enough, they did not play a single song off the last album they did with Chester. I have seen YouTube clips of people having a go at Chester when they were touring the last album when they started singing songs from it and you could see Chester having a pop back. I have no doubt they can easily headline download after last night. It just went off with every hit last night. Just phenomenal

Went to see three bands at the Wharf Chambers in Leeds on Saturday night, all worth a look if they are passing your way at a local gig. Bean King - metal-ish rock, and only newly formed. Andalusia - reminded me a bit of early New Order and lead singer had a voice reminiscent of Morrisey when in the Smiths. TV Moms - New York punk, thrashy, sometimes deliberately out of sync, my favourites of the three. Only a tenner to get in but a poor crowd, maybe 25 tops - no talkers though!

Put your bloody phones down folks. Tbf it wasn't that bad, mostly the phones came out at the front when the singer came out, and during the biggest hits. Bloke near me did get his phone out during one song but was shaking it so violently whilst jumping up and down that the footage will be unviewable. Bit pointless really. Ian Brown was in the crowd, near the mosh pit apparently.

We went to Brum on Saturday and stopped over.We have seen the Pistols twice before in Holland and Manchester with Lydon, but I thought they sounded better and frank smashed it in Brum.Im assume it was the same in Mancheter too. So good. Brilliant mate. I took the video posted above. It got a bit tasty in the pit at times. The Pistols didn't ever sound this good back in the day. I genuinely think they could tour the world with this, although I'm not sure how many shows they could play as Jonesy was seriously beginning to flag towards the end. It was miles better than with Lydon and to tell you the truth, most people think he's a bit of a dick now anyway.

American indie singer songwriter Sam Evian at Yes in Manchester, tonight.
Started off a bit boring but ended really strongly, all really good musicians. Best songs were from his latest album 'plunge'. Great venue when it's not sold out as it wasn't tonight. 3 quid a pint 👍

Couple of weekends ago at Echoplex in LA: Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity and Fires in the Distance.
All good, Dark Tranquillity are my favourite band and I loved every second of it, even if they barely played any of the classics I grew up with. Just magnificent melodic guitar work.
They just looked so happy to be up there on the stage and playing, wonderful.
