Saw The Stranglers (or what's left of them) again at Halifax Piece Hall on Saturday night. They were superb as usual, and the Grade 1 listed Piece Hall is a great venue in itself for outdoor gigs as long as you get the weather but I have to say the crowd let it down a bit. Maybe I'm just turning into a grumpy old git, but for me there were far too many middle-aged people who had come for a night out on the piss and a chat that just happened to have music in the background. The Buzzcocks were the support act and to be honest they may as well not have bothered for the amount of attention they were getting. Pffft, I must be getting old . I'm turning into a grumpy old git too I think 🤔 Similar problem when I saw Dexys, I think some turn up just to hear the hits and aren't too fussed about the rest of the gig. Anger is justified. I pay to see a band, not listen to someone's conversation. I told someone that before and have also moved away from annoying chatters. Some people wear t-shirts that say as much on the back. I'm amazed people pay into the hundreds of pounds for some events and talk all the way through. I can only think they just want to be seen there.

People talking all the ways through the song and then shutting up to clap when the song had finished. Fucking infuriating.

Yeh, hadn't thought of that, some are probably purely there to put it on their Facebook/Instagram or whatever.

Just back from a great pre-ArcTanGent Festival line-up of bands at Boom in Leeds tonight. A-Sun Amissa, Pleiades, Din of Celestial Birds, Underdark and Hundred year Old Man - 5 acts for about £12 entry. Covered everything from dark, reverberatory ambient to post-rock. All were brilliant, but A-Sun Amissa, Din of Celestial Birds and Hundred Year Old Man in particular took me out of my working week to another place entirely. If you are going to ArcTanGent in Bristol next week, definitely try to catch Hundred Year Old Man.

Anyone off to the Manics at Trentham next Saturday?
Looking at the setlist they've used for the Suede co-headliners this summer. If it's similar then it will be a good one with quite a few bangers ive not seen them play live before.
Looking forward to Public Service Broadcasting with them as well

Went to see Hue and Cry, Lightning Seeds and Deacon Blue at Trentham on Thursday. H+C not really my thing but were OK, Lightning Seeds were much better than I thought they'd be, Deacon Blue excellent but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of encores, I saw them years ago in Portsmouth and they did 2, however I think the crowd at Trentham, having been stood in less than ideal weather for 4 or 5 hours were just as keen to get home, I'd imagine most in the crowd have a bad back, legs or whatever given the age demographic 😃 Special mention to the three drunk women stood near us, who it seems we're only there to hear DB sing one song going by their inane chatter throughout a fair bit of the DB performance and their chanting 'Dignity' at the end of each song Good night, well worth the 40 odd quid.

Last night Trentham, Jess Glynne. Very professional, large band, great stage + sound quality, good venue, I reckon they could get 10,000 in there with careful planning. Good facilities, food, drink, toilets, stewarding etc Car parks are a bit of a nightmare when gig finishes, must have been 50 taxis parked on the inside lane of the A34 from gardens entrance all way up to Poachers Cottage. Not sure how you can police that sort of thing? Maybe there should be a separate pick up/drop off area such as the Trentham Hotel or Poachers or Trentham golf club or Trentham high school. I'm sure solutions could be found with a bit of creativity?

Warm up DJ Nathan Dawe was v.good, Ibiza type 'pop' dance/rave stuff got the crowd 'up for it'

Looking forward to Public Service Broadcasting with them as well Not long got back from this and, as you predicted, it was fucking mint. PSB were very good (missed Catherine Ann Davies as I was in the pub) as support and The Manics were blistering as ever. As others have mentioned in this thread, Trentham Estate ran a very smooth operation - a lot better than I expected it to be if I'm honest. That said, I haven't really got anything to compare it to as the last time I went to a gig at Trentham Gardens was 26 years ago (to see Manic Street Preachers as it happens).

Brilliant, I was absolutely bosting to go after seeing the manics plenty over the years. Always give 100%. Sadly(for me) I couldn’t make it. Hope you had a great time, it’s a great thing they do at Trentham with the summer gigs and hopefully it’ll get bigger next year

I was at the Northwich Pina Colada festival on Saturday with these bands on stage- Max Mutant DJ starting the show, followed by Manchester-based Salsa Pa Gozar bringing their Cuban and Latin rhythms, and skilled Steel-Pannist Eesha playing hits from Bob Marley to Taylor Swift and our final act will have you up and dancing to finish the day in style. The Reggulites promise to help us end the day on a high with their energetic live show and reggae beats.
Then an after Party with The Ant Hill Mob

Coming up at Foxlowe, Leek: Scouse Kraut-rockers Mugstar, favourites of John Peel, 30 August. House of All , erstwhile members of The Fall, 31 August. An unfortunate clash with awesome Spacewitch, playing at home at The Rigger. Damn- Mugstar cancelled

Off to StoneDead festival in Newark today ,old school rock and metal and Saxon, KK Downing from Judas Priest, Paul Dianno (original Maiden singer) Quireboys and a host of others. Always a good event , well run, tickets capped at 5000 so the facilities are good and it's not way oversold. A cracking festival and great value .
My 17yo is at Reading Fest which looks hell on earth to me these days but hey she's got to start somewhere , doing the "£300 for that lineup - in my day it was £15.95 for the weekend " was hard to resist 😁 She's also knackered cos we got her a ticket for the final night of Swifties Wembley run on Tuesday which was another cracker and some cameo appearances from Florence of the Machine ( a.k.a in my words a pound shop wannabe Kate Bush lol - not my cuppa at all) and Jack Antonoff of Bleachers ,who are a band I know but never realised he was a writer and producer for many artists including TS.
Hoping the named storm blows through and buggers off without causing too much campsite carnage at StoneDead or Reading.

Really enjoyed it last Saturday. JDB still has it in spades and Nicky Wire's recollection of playing the Wheatsheaf was great to listen to. Ocean Spray was a surprise and poignant personally as I lost a much loved uncle on the day who'd had a few weeks in hospital. The song was written about James' mum who was having cancer treatment and he'd take cartons of the stuff when he visited her as it was one of the only things she liked the taste of due to the drugs. Design For Life early in confused a few being the traditional set closer but If You Tolerate This an appropriate end. They did warn us 26 years ago! Was surprised how well organised it was as you said. Smooth in and out, no bog issues, swift bar service. Did help that it stayed dry as well. Hopefully they'll book a prominent indie/rock act again next year.
