Another cracking weekend at StoneDead festival in Newark, a touch wet but that's life, turned up Friday and a great atmosphere in campsite as ever and a brilliant Friday night drinking and watching Paul Dianno do a surprisingly good Iron Maiden set and then Quireboys (with a couple of Thunder sitting in) as the prefect part band. Sadly missed the hotly tipped Scarlet Rebels who've just landed their debut album in charts
Saturday was damp for the first half but frankly wall to wall great bands, old school metal from Tailgunner , The Bites from LA were a breath of fresh air, dumb US party metal and brilliant .Doro Pesch was some more classic 80s metal and topped off with KK Downings Priest and Saxon ,great sound and for ยฃ65 for the weekend it's a bargain.
Great festival ,5000 attendance and plenty of decent facilities and good food options and bars not stupidly priced (ยฃ5.80 a pint) plus allowed to take a few cans in with you. Already booked for next year

My 17yo is at Reading Fest which looks hell on earth to me these days but hey she's got to start somewhere , doing the "ยฃ300 for that lineup - in my day it was ยฃ15.95 for the weekend " was hard to resist ๐ I went Friday and fucking loved it but ยฃ125 day ticket ffs. Saw Spiritbox, Two Door Cinema Club, Amity Affliction, Gerry Cinnamon, Neck Deep and Blink 182. The price stung but given show prices nowadays it's alright. Loved Blink from year 7 days but highlight was getting pretty smashed up in the Amity moshpit.

24 August 24 the Rigger
Carniwhore. Sixpiece Marilyn Mansonesque freakshow, basic two guitar Slipknot style thrashers, with a couple of standout songs, energetically and theatrically delivered, mostly spilling off the stage. Maybe the time has passed for this sort of thing, but it was good entertainment.
Seize The Void Like a polished mid seventies American power trio, another band out of their time,. Highly proficient guitarist had all the compulsory EVH flourishes, backed up by an excellent busy drummer, but failed by some dull material.
Doomsday Sun (album launch) Early DS had a strong early Sabbath vibe. Their splendid "Where The Hammer Lies" single bears little similarly to their newer material, which uses their twin guitars to a harsher Metallica sound, with rougher vocals. However they have a likeable tongue in cheek attitude and a superb drummer.
Again, hats off to the Rigger for finding a bunch of good local bands and putting them on for a fiver, with excellent bar prices. Great place.

Already booked for next year I can certainly echo this, a festival ran by volunteers, with an amazing vibe to it. There was plenty of alcohol consumed and my highlights was seeing Doro (stunning lady), Ugly Kid Joe and KK Priest. I canโt remember much of Saxon, too drunk at this point and telling one of the barmaids she was beautiful ๐ป Finished the party back at the tent and had an argument with Guy (rope) to and from going the loo ๐ Ticket bought for next year. Next up is Apocalyptic, Lacuna Coil, Butcher Babies in Oct & then Slipknot in Dec ๐ค๐ป

Never seen Amity and would like to. ยฃ125 jeez that's ridiculous We were a couple rows back from the front for blink so the energy level was great and I loved it. I wanted even more older stuff but the zoomers seemed into it. I saw the Prodigy in 2012 I think and friends said it was a weaker set. They freestyled most of the middle, it was pissing it down and I hadn't taken any drugs ๐ but the beginning and end of the set were great and I've heard that most times they're loads better. It makes me smile that your girl enjoyed them and they're still playing.

I forgot how that place came and went in such a relatively short time really. I loved that place. Ocean Colour Sceneโs first ever gig was at The Wheatsheaf.

I missed most of it due to living away ๐ Did have the Wedgwood Rooms in Southsea tho, some great acts there too. Only gig I saw at the Wheatsheaf was Otway and Barrett, Otway was having a pint in the Sea Lion prior to the gig so I got to have a bit of a chat ๐

House of Blues Anaheim.
The Struts supported by Barns Courtney.
Years ago the Struts were at the bottom of the poster but absolutely dominated a festival but now they have fans who know all the songs so it was just excellent. High octane and fun.
I also really enjoyed Barns Courtney. Great rock n roll show.

Melt Banana @ Rebellion tonight... absolute carnage, 60 minutes of mental energy, loved it, ears are ringing like fuck now though.
Had a great time at EOTR festival at the weekend, hope you enjoyed it aswell Jimmy? Highlights for me were Jockstrap, CMAT, Slowdive, Phosphorescent, King Hannah, Nation of Language, Casisdead, Sleater Kinney and Floating Points. Didn't see a bad set all weekend though tbh. People and weather were great too as usual. Already bought tickets for next year.

I've cut down on gigs loads recently but thanks to a broken car did miss two I was most excited about (Janelle Monae and SANAM).
The Jacksons were pretty good. Good moves from the three original members and a nephew from 3T, a boyband that were a high school blast from the past. I quite enjoyed them but expected more of the big hits.
VLURE, a rave punk band from Glasgow, were banging. IMO there's not much better live than dance music with a rock band setup. Support act Frozemode were good too, three rappers with a band and some hard-hitting tracks.
Possibly the least appropriate band for sit down gig, but what the hey:

Listened quite a bit to them and then made my way to watch them at Glastonbury. Did not enjoy them live and left after about 15 minutes but willing to give them another go inside a venue where the whole atmosphere & sound would be different

No idea if that reflects being there though, as I know it's often completely different.
