Saw Stylistics in Plymouth last night. Not my favourite soul band but tickets were free and an enjoyable evening. Would imagine that they are one of the few soul bands with some original members.

Went to see The Jesus and Mary Chain in Manchester last night ... They completed it then? 😀 back in the day I saw them drop guitars after less then a few minutes walk off and cause a riot.

The Australian Pink Floyd show tonight at the Regent. If they hadn't swapped a pig for a kangaroo you wouldn't have guessed it wasn't the real thing Superbly proficient.

The Australian Pink Floyd show tonight at the Regent. If they hadn't swapped a pig for a kangaroo you wouldn't have guessed it wasn't the real thing Superbly proficient. I would've loved to have gone, but I had 3 other gigs this week, and it's exhausting getting back to normal life again. My reasoning for missing it was they'll probably play in Hanley again, and there's another Pink Floyd tribute in Hanley in February. The gigs I did go to: James - very good but the set did feel a bit long at 2 hours...until the end when they strung together Tomorrow, Getting Away With It, Come Home, Sometimes and Sit Down. Sometimes (no pun intended), I wish James were known for more than their big singles, but can any band in the world end a set with 5 better pop songs than that? They did cut an obscure b-side called Honest Joe I would've liked to hear though. The Hives - we missed the first 15 minutes because the set time was advertised incorrectly. The songs I knew were very good - I wasn't much for the rest. They supported: The Offspring - excellent. The first time I've seen them live, and I enjoyed most of the stuff I didn't know as well as the well known tracks from Smash and Americana. The new album has some good stuff, including the title track. They played snippets of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and some other bands. Mostly Autumn - up next on Sunday at The Robin in Bilston. Recommended for Pink Floyd and 70s rock and folk fans! They sometimes throw in a Pink Floyd cover. It's an early gig - I think they're due on stage around 7:30pm. Then next month I have Mostly Autumn again in York, where they will end the set with Christmas songs.

James and Happy Mondays next Friday at MEN arena. Not a fan of that size venue, usually a shit experience. Then back to Manchester the following week for Shed seven at the Academy with a much more enjoyable venue .

Went to see Boss Keloid at the Underground. Good to see gents of my own age still making highly proficient live music. I like the Underground, the crowd was enthusiastic but a bit sparse, it was cold too. Heavy prog if anyone's interested... www.youtube.com/results?search_query=boss+keloid+chronosiam

Then back to Manchester the following week for Shed seven at the Academy with a much more enjoyable venue . I’d usually agree but saw Depeche Mode there in 2017 and was fantastic I find arenas hit and miss (and usually a bit soulless either way), so I don't go to arena gigs often given the expense, meaning I haven't seen some favourite bands live. Depeche Mode (in 2001ish) didn't sound great at the MEN, but their support (Fad Gadget) did. Arcade Fire sounded terrible there. James were way too quiet (also 2001 I think) but it was still a good gig. My good vs bad arena gigs is probably a 50/50 split. The Who were the best at the NEC in the mid-00s. Deep Purple sounded great but Rainbow sounded poor (especially disappointing because DP played a disappointing setlist but Rainbow's was great). So hit and miss!

Mr Weller at Viccy Hall earlier. Superb as usual. This is another I would've gone to if I didn't already have a few gigs this week. There are some good tracks on his latest album, Fat Pop.

James and Happy Mondays at AO Arena in Manchester on Friday. Mondays on surprisingly okay form as the warm up band.
James did about a 2 1/2 hour set. Finished around 11-15. A lot of new stuff with plenty of old classics as well. Was amazed to read Tim Booth is 61 his dancing is something to behold for a bloke his age. Excellent gig despite my dislike for big arenas.

Shed seven cancelled tomorrow. Covid. Gutted.
Although a friend of mine has also lost his hotel money as apparently no refund on an advance saver rate with travel lodge

Myles Kennedy at Manchester Academy last night.
I enjoyed it but I think I preferred his acoustic tour.
A hateful venue but needs must.

Tony Christie tonight in Pentyrch Cardiff. 78 but owned the stage, immaculate in 3 piece suit. Worth it just to hear him sing Jarvis Cocker lyrics about halfwits in leotards
Next up is Thomas Gabriel, Johnny Cash's grandson who sounds a lot like him

Mostly Autumn - a great 2hr40m set in York ending with 4 Christmas songs (including one of MA's own plus Greg Lake, Chris de Burgh and The Pogues). The only downside was a sizable number who chatted all throughout the songs.
I was tempted by Thunder Hammer, a local metal/rock covers band at The Sugarmill this weekend, but I'd likely be going to that on my own and it's not one I feel like going to on my own!
I'm not sure who's up next. Maybe ABBA Mania if they're still around or otherwise the Classic Rock Show in Hanley, and Wytches (highly recommended) at Eleven in Stoke. Cast in Manc or Brum are tempting, then Bob Mould at The Sugarmill is a definite.

Absolutely excellent covers band and I’m not massively into rock but always had a great time with a marvellous atmosphere at all venues.
