Went to The 1975 last night in Birmingham and it was incredible as per, not many people's cup of tea on here but they're definitely one of the biggest bands in the world right now.

First time in the Sugarmill for 20 years easy, toilets are still shite! Great gig, much better than I was expecting. Good support and Good sized (and very old!) crowd. Hanley though, fuck me it's an absolute ghost town these days!

I've recently seen bands who like capital letters. The HU in Manchester. Good fun and good tunes that the traditional Mongolian instruments add an interesting twist to. Their encore lasted about 40 minutes. Coldbones at The Underground, Hanley. I had more than cold bones at this subarctic gig, but Coldbones more than made up for it with some epic instrumental rock. Two good support bands, too. I wish gigs like this were better-attended. CJ as Michael Jackson at Eleven, Tunstall. Very good, though the drummer seemed like he needed more energy. DIIV in Manchester. Average. PINS at The Sugarmill, Hanley. It all kicked off. Indie-rock, electronic, danceable stuff. Highly recommended. I first saw PINS support 2:54 in 2012, and this was their best show. I liked both supports, Yellow Brains (sort of a Depeche Mode/MGMT vibe) and young local grungy punksters Honey (could've come up with a better name for Googling).

I had a trip down Goth memory lane last night, back to Leeds c.1987, to see The Sisters of Mercy at the O2 Academy. Rather disconcertingly, Andrew Eldritch now resembles a bald version of ageing German Volksmusik singer Heino, but then again I suppose I'm not the lithe reptile swathed in black that I was 30 years ago either. They still knock out a good tune though, and some good moshing to Alice and First and Last and Always etc. with lots of slightly creaky middle-aged goths.
The support act A. A. Williams was good I thought. She sounded something like a mixture of the bleakest bits of Pink Floyd and Radiohead to my mind, but mixed things together to become chilled and beautiful, rather than overtly gloomy.

I saw the Sisters in Brum a couple of years ago, thought they were great, they seem to get slatted a bit but I really enjoyed them. Missed this time as Manchester sold out in a flash! wanted to see Bauhaus again but they're only playing London which is a shame. hoping Spear of Destiny return to Stoke this year as well as that was a brilliant gig last year probably one of the best I've been too in a long time.

Yes, I can understand that - I wonder if at present she just has a limited number of songs to perform? I see from her website that she has an album coming out in the summer, and I'll definitely give that a go.

I know Eldritch doesn't do himself any favours sometimes with what he says re. their Goth following, but I agree, I thought they were still a good night out and I hadn't seen them in over 30 years. I'd go again if they were doing the rounds in the next few years. The only tour date I have seen for SoD is in Luton in May. Yes, shame Bauhaus aren't on in the Midlands or North anywhere, but I suppose a lot of gig dates are going to be up in the air soon depending upon how Coronavirus pans out .

..... just got back from The Sleaford Mods at The Triffid in Brisbane - awesome. The Chats did a DJ set as support which was interesting, the ranga with the mullet & his mate sitting on the stage drinking free beer while the music played (they did include The Buzzcocks, The Damned & Television.) Off to see our mate Tao from Mission Beach play at The Zoo tomorrow night (much more chilled)

Planning on seeing Fish in Wolverhampton in 2 weeks but no idea how that’s going to work at this point. He wrote a ver6 interesting piece via his Facebook page ( Crap at posting links sorry) about the dilemma him and promoter face. Insurance on cancelling won’t cover all , doing so without government say so is impossible, and if goes ahead likely to be hit with poor attendance. Hope the shows go ahead and I can go

Just decided not to go to see Elvis Costello in Oxford tonight. Felt it was an unnecessary risk irrespective of the £140 for two tickets. It would have been my first time seeing him so probably missed the chance now 🙄
Update: just found out the gig had been cancelled and to be rescheduled for later this year 👍

It would have been my first time seeing him so probably missed the chance now 🙄 Tough call isn’t it. Decision made for me on Fish gig as he’s pulled the tour. We were seeing Shinedown in Florida in April but clearly that holiday isn’t happening now. Fortunately hadn’t bought the gig tickets as would struggled to get money back

Any gigs on the horizon for anyone? I was due to see Graywave but it got cancelled thanks to clashing with England vs Ukraine. They announced another date for this Wednesday. I finally decided to buy a ticket last night (still having COVID concerns), and it's just been cancelled thanks to a band member coming into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. So in a couple of weeks I'm hoping Ultrasound at The Deaf Institute in Manchester (postponed from last year) goes ahead: Then Teenage Fanclub in September (clashes with Nick Cave in Hanley, but TFC are one of my faves). And maybe Manc Psych Fest.

International Teachers of Pop at Sheffield Leadmill on 21 August is the next gig I've actually got tickets for:
After that it's New Order at Heaton Park, Manchester (supported by Hot Chip and the quite frankly awesome Working Men's Club):
Probably sneak a few more in before then but those are the only ones that are confirmed in the diary for now.

King King in a couple of weeks then Kris Barrass, Blackstone Cherry, Black Crowes, Inglorious, Blackwater Conspiracy, Aerosmith, Rival Sons and Ricky Warwick.
I've just kept buying tickets. Treated it like some sort of live music savings account.

Treated it like some sort of live music savings account. I’m at the BSC & Kris Barras gig in a few weeks… how much did you pay for Aerosmith as I saw them on Ticketmaster for around £190!! Originally I was going Hollywood Vampires (Joe Perry, Alice Cooper & Johnny Depp) but it’s been cancelled.
