Bbc sports news being charged with violent conduct I'm not surprised, the BBC has a history of this over the years. People of my age can remember when Muffin the Mule was portrayed graphically on prime time TV. Postman Pat never treated his cat with the respect it deserved and although they never admitted it, contestants on Crackerjack who dropped a cabbage were tortured after the show. Now it has spread to BBC sport! Hopefully the BBC will clean up its act and make sure that Match of the Day never again includes thugs like Alan Shearer and Martin Keown. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/4tzqvp1fxEemag_TAXLJ.gif)

There is already another official who could use a screen to review decisions. The fourth official just seems to spend 90 minutes being moaned at by managers, so give him the job of reviewing incidents instead. As you no doubt know, there is a big debate and trials about extending the use of video technology. I agree that when the game is already stopped for that kind of incident, it should be used. But like all such major changes, they don't come quickly and have to be agreed internationally. It wouldn't be the 4th official but in the trials has been a new video official sitting in the stand, as it is in cricket and rugby. Can you imagine the 4th official trying to look at it surrounded by the benches. Nightmare. Malcolm, If it needs to be agreed internationally how come Germany are using it this season, are they trialling it?

Joe deserved yellow, Deeney red (the reaction was way beyond what was reasonable in all circumstances) - and no red and white tinted specs here! It is like the court case about a farmer shooting a burglar dead - yes, he may be trying to nick your stuff, but your response is meant to stop at preventing him doing that, not to shoot him dead! Same applies here. nah, lets shoot them dead, less burglars to worry about then ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

It does actually you don't have to walk away turning your back on an aggressor is a risk as is moving in a direction that you're not looking. You are not required to do so believe me I've put it to the test. In Sweden there is a law saying you must get away from the attacker at least 100 meters, but then you can defend yourself.

The responsibility of stopping the game is with the referee unless a player is obviously badly injured that's the way it should stay. There are times when Stoke are too nice and we can by disadvantaged by a player feigning injury et: Bournemouth

There are times when Stoke are too nice and we can by disadvantaged by a player feigning injury et: Bournemouth In this case it was a Stoke player, Pieters, who was injured and another, Butland, who put the ball out. You are right that it is the ref's job to stop the game but when one of the teams team does it by kicking the ball out, the convention (to which all teams subscribe) is for the team taking the throw in to give the ball to the opposition - usually to the opposing keeper. Deeney knew the convention and he and his team will have benefited from it as often as Stoke or any other team.

To be honest, Deeney being banned doesn't help us whatsoever now. We've got the points, that's the main thing. Having been banned, he now misses 3 games..... against 3 of our immediate rivals in the league, Everton, West Ham, and Newcastle. I was surprised that Hughes even brought it up. He perhaps should have thought about that.
Deeney is a good player. He is definitely one of Watford's best players and I'd probably have him at Stoke. Watford now have to turn to someone else against 3 teams we are in direct competition with.

However, I'm sure we have hopes of finishing above Watford in which case a ban for Deeney may help us in that respect. If we have hopes of a finish as high as 7th or 8th (and I am sure we do) then only bans for players of top 6 clubs are really bad news for us. However, I do think that, for games in the first half of the season, 3 game bans should include the return match between the 2 clubs involved in the game which resulted in the ban.

Malcolm, If it needs to be agreed internationally how come Germany are using it this season, are they trialling it? In the NFL, a player is ejected immediately if he goes anywhere near the officials. If the players know that the rules will be enforced they’ll follow them. They way players are allowed to intimidate the officials is unacceptable. Video review works also well in the NFL but it is desruptive because it takes time for a decision.

Convention is not law or rule, Deeney obviously did not abide by convention but let's flip the situation. If it was the other way around we were 0-1 down with a minute to go what would be your decision? Would you try to go for goal, after all they put the ball out because of their injuries and they had also been wasting time, or would you return the ball? It's tough but whatever your thoughts at the end of the day Deeney's actions against Allen were out of order and thuggish.

Deeney is shite. He's literally only good at scoring penalties and roughing up players from the top clubs who "don't fancy it".. if anything, they'll be better off without him for the games against the teams amongst the pond life at the bottom.

It's tough but whatever your thoughts at the end of the day Deeney's actions against Allen were out of order and thuggish. I accept the fact that it may only be a convention but I can't think of an occasion when the other team HASN'T returned the ball to us when we expected them to. So I would never go for goal in the situation you describe. There isn't a lot of principled behaviour in pro football but the return of the ball to the opposition after a throw in because of injury is one of the few occasions when 99% of the time all teams show a bit of class and Deeney's failure to observe the convention is, thankfully, a rare exception.
