DeSantis is the only option. Republicans are insane if they choose Trump over him. Thing is Nick, in a head to head with DeSantis, Trump would get his arse handed to him on a plate. But there is going to be 5 or 6 runners for the nomination and in that situation, the vote is very likely to split and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Trump will actually make it, with (say) 30% of the vote. I don't think the Republicans would then stand a chance, regardless who is leading the Democrats. You are right, they'd be insane to choose Trump but many of them are certainly going to do so. Apreciate there is no one right way to do democracy however I find the US electoral system bizarre, unwieldy and ultimately undemocratic as money is the key factor more so than anywhere else

Trumps already suggesting he will reveal personal details if Desantis stands - tantamount to blackmail. Hopefully Desantis can fight fire with fire, it'll get messy, and hopefully whoever the democrats put up will stuff them. One would hope DeSantis has just as much dirt on Trump. It does go to show that Trump simply cannot accept his time has come and is resorting to total desperation which is a shame...He needs to go gracefully but that won't happen. There is also another scenario that could unfold whereby Trump goes independent and splits the vote - Not out of the question. What on Earth could DeSantis have on Trump that is more damaging than what Trump has openly done since before he was elected? The guy has rewritten the rule book about probity in office, sexual misconduct, tax evasion/false accounting, inappropriate conduct with foreign powers etc.

If he wins the nomination, Trump won't win the next election. He's Yesterday's Man and most of the electorate have worked him out. He'll still have his cult followers but the recent Mid-Terms have brought some sanity to the US voters and those cult followers are becoming ever-decreasing in numbers. Also, because the Republicans will win the House, the issue of abortion will still be on the agenda. Add to that another two years to level out the current fuel crisis and the war in Ukraine and the world should be getting back to some sort of normality by 2024. And not let's forget the legal stuff that's hitting Trump now. That can only be good for the Democrats. The one downside to the Democrats will be the state of Biden's health in two years. They need to come up with a candidate who is younger but who also has enough presence to be bankrolled through the election. At the moment I can't see one, so they'd better start sorting it now. OS. DeSantis is the only option. Republicans are insane if they choose Trump over him. What are the policies that DeSantis will introduce, that will make America a safer place for people from all walks of life to live and prosper in? Is there anything that stands out at all?

He managed to make his state safer for all people to prosper in without even being President. He stunned the world in 2020 by refusing lockdowns, sickening mask mandates and oppressive, authoritarian measures during the Covid scam. It was one of the biggest success stories in recent American history. Not a bad start, right? In addition to that he's got a pretty clear stance on economic prosperity, immigration, education, the ghastly Green agenda and law and order to name a few - All major issues in the US. In terms of your "from all walks of life" comment, he's shown in Florida that he is immensely popular with all races, all backgrounds and both rich and poor.

The death rate in Florida per 100,000 stands at 384 - compared to 285 for the UK. A Florida death rate in the UK would have given us approximately another 70,000 deaths. I suppose it all depends what price you want put on that.

I love how you just put out these absurd death toll figures on a regular. You literally have no idea how many died because of covid or with Covid. Do you not think that's a fairly important difference?

I look forward to more studies by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, published by Rupert Murdoch without any attempt to inform readers about the political leanings of the lobby group.
Using articles like that is just the same as the avalanche of memes that Huddy throws at us in the hope that some of them might be correct.

You've disparaged a source that someone has used, and then immediately asked us to believe a study that was produced by an institute (Committee to Unleash Prosperity) co-founded by two people (Arthur B. Laffer & Stephen Moore) that have very strong links to the Charles Koch, a so-called libertarian billionaire who heavily invests in many right-wing institutes and thinktanks.

In a lacklustre speech Trump announces his Candidacy for 2024 Presidency in a desperate attempt to stave off Criminal and Financial InvestigationsĀ Naturally his Teleprompter Speech was littered with provable lies and laughable false claims too many to itemise There isn't a cat in halls chance he has the stamina or momentum to continue his campaign for any length of time given his other distractions Additionally the RNC have told him that if he announced his Presidency they would no longer bankroll his Legal Bills which presents him with another problemĀ Popcorn Time More than anything, he tried for his second run. He failed. He lost a lot of hangers on in that run. Itās so much harder to mount a comeback than to be āoh look at me, Iām nice and shinyā. De Santis will likely get the Republican vote. Iām not sure who will get the Democratic vote. I reckon that the race will centre heavily on Roe vs Wade and same-sex marriages. De Santis will likely try and make it about education. If he continues to go after Disney and their economy shrinks, heāll be in a far weaker position as well.

Well, there's a surprise. Should probably have been an addition to the right-wing terrorism thread. It's almost like Trump's renewed influence and rhetoric legitimise this stuff in the minds of idiots inclined to carry out acts like this. It's a sad reality that populists (like Johnson, Trump, Farage and Bolsanaro) often do stir up these kind of responses. They all need to be consigned to political history and we can hopefully move back to more sensible, less extreme politics. What has Desantis said about it, if anything?

I find it very surprising how you were so elated to see a right wing PM elected in Sweden. It was the previous Swedish PM, President of European Socialists, that had some of the most relaxed rules surrounding covid and didn't follow the crowd with lock downs. Why were you so happy to see the Swedish PM, who you have referenced many times for his great covid stance, lose his position? Just seems a bit weird and hypocritical. So interested to know. While we're at it do you actually know of any right wing governments who had a better response in your eyes?

Re just about everything else, notably failing to deal with the repercussions of open borders was a disaster, hence they got voted out. It could be argued they deserved to stay in government solely on the basis that they had the most rational covid policy on the planet. I'm somewhat ambivalent to whether US Voters realise that Ronny's view of "Freedom of Choice" is entirely based on agreeing with his personal definition of what choices people should make in regards to Womens Reproduction, Sexual Orientation, Gun Control, Education Curriculum, use of Federal Funds to alleviate State Disasters and many more In essence a Complete Hypocrite If people want FreeDumb that'll be their choice. The policy followed by Tegnell and the FoHM was primarily based on necessity due to Sweden being ill prepared for an Epidemic rather than any Scientific Evidence, which to be fair was absent in all Countries. His main points of differentiation were his opposition to mask wearing whether Covid was Airborne or not and whether it could be spread by Infected People who had no obvious symptoms This in itself was a defense mechanism because Sweden had very poor testing capability The other main departure of course was his clinging to the belief in Herd Imunity would ultimately overcome the Virus. He did accept that over 60s should be more protected but because of Sweden's woeful palliative resources this was limited to those below a certain body mass and most were offered Morphine to alleviate pain than actually being given Oxygen Treatments. This Bogus Herd Imunity Theory was also initially adopted by UK and Netherlands with equally disastrous results The final Body Count in Sweden is appalling compared to its near neighbours and Germany who pursued a more orthodox approach and the Swedish Economy was affected just as badly. The last time we discussed this matter you tried to tell me Tegnell had been appointed to a prestigious position within WHO and I pointed out he wasnāt because he's a CRANK
