True. I just think Bluesky is much better - especially for detailed news articles and some academic content (which I always feel morally obligated to read). X has just become a vehicle for fake news articles, ridiculous levels of propaganda, and emotionally extortionate degrees of abuse and vitriol. You can make your own jokes 😄 I like the fact that there's no adverts spamming it and a no random shite appearing on your timeline, but it's a bit dull. It's just a load of centrist dads and liberal dullards telling each other how great the new format is. Lacks a bit of edge currently...... If by “edge” you mean hard left and far right wing knobheads interfering and abusing people involved in otherwise rational discussions between people over news articles, then I’ll take it over the idiots wankfest that is X.

He makes my skin crawl, but fair play he's head and shoulders with this analysis here over all the other apologists aligned with his political persuasion.

No I didn't mean that in any way shape or form. I meant having discussions with people you may not necessarily agree with like adult human beings, not just a load of smug pricks fawning over one another........

I thought the whole entire reason the democrats lost was because they didn’t promise anything. That’s what everyone keeps saying on here. Democrats didn’t promise to make working class people richer. Trump did (without saying how other than crashing the economy). It's not that simple, they couldn't offer up any competent explanation of their policies, they thought 'we're not Trump' would be enough to get them through. They came across as utterly disrespectful of the voting public in the respect that their arguments weren't cogent or very well formulated. What do you think they did specifically last time, that they didn't do this time? Under Biden, inflation fell and employment rose, so how has a party that got it's campaign right just four years ago, seemingly completely forgotten in such a short space of time, how to run an an actual election campaign? Or does the result have to do with something more than just how the Democrats came across to certain sections of the public this time?

I think they didn't have the COVID response to tar Trump with this time, and I think the people are concerned about the $ in their pocket. Saying inflation is down is one thing, but in my experience there the average Joe is getting hit in the pocket for their everyday bills. The costs in the supermarkets there were eye opening, I couldn't understand how they were sustainable. Add to that the fact it's a black female who hasn't actually won a primary to earn the nomination, then I think that maybe helped to tip the balance in the Republicans favour for those voters on the fence. Maybe a bit of better the devil you know?

He makes my skin crawl too, I've always thought of him as being a duplicitous prick. And with that in mind, I can't help thinking that if he had had a flashing neon sign behind him proclaiming that he was hoping to become Starmer's ambassador to America, then it might have put a slightly different perspective on his words.

Maybe a bit of better the devil you know? Indeed, I think those reasons have a lot more credibility than it being because of the way the Democrats 'spoke down' to parts of the electorate, didn't they speak down to them in the same way at the last election? I also think people aren't giving Trump enough credit either. He realised he'd been complacent during the last campaign and he was now prepared to guarantee the electorate pretty much anything they wanted this time. He literally said he would make ALL of the country's problems go away if he won, that's a pretty seductive promise, if you're inclined to believe him. Seems they did.
