Forgetting the rights or wrongs of the competition for a moment and I haven't a problem with it, there is a such a lack of football for our squad players that I don't blame us for playing them to get some match legs into them. We are so desperate for something like the old central league restarting it's untrue for the squad players.
It's down to the fundamental fact that the majority of our squad are not even playing a competitive match for weeks on end without this competition therefore I support what they are doing

So you think our youth set up is working fine? We can't even produce professional footballers, let alone premier league ones, this despite spending 10s of millions over the last 6-7 years. Our recent spending will have the biggest impact on the younger age groups. Our U11s (think it was them) were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Real Madrid at the end of last season. It will be another few years until we start to see these younger players pushing through and then we can finally see if there have been any improvements or not. We've currently got 5 or 6 academy players training with the first team on a regular basis. Verlinden is only 17 and was on the bench for the first team the other week. He's currently with the Belgium U19s squad. N'Goy is only 18 and has been in and around the first team matchday squad. Same can be said of Taylor. Hopefully with a few of the older first team players moving on next summer, a few of the youth players will be a regular part of the matchday squad next season. Yet we play 4-5 first team squad in his competition?? With all this talent? Like I say it's a shambles

What we deserve for entering it Why would we turn down the opportunity? The Fa were always going to try and do something to move towards improving youth football, we would have been stupid to turn it down. What is stupid however is how we have gone and made a mockery out of it by playing so many over age players. Like I said earlier, if I was a young player I would go nowhere near Stoke if I wanted a career. It's pointless. 3 games against teams who don't quite frankly care.

It's to help a few of the lads gain some fitness, which is of course the wrong thing to do. In the first game against Bradford (who are currently second in League One), we only had Adam and Muniesa playing. Only lost 1-0 and we dominated large parts of the game.

And this thread proves why it's not a good idea to play youngsters until they're ready.

Get a life and stop moaning, we are in the fucking tournament so go with it.

Whoever scouted Haugaard must have been drunk he makes Gordon Marshall look like Gordon banks He won the Danish league with a side that wasn't favourite by a little way, and from what I remember from speaking to work colleagues at the time he wasn't even the first choice start of the season. So I think overall the move was a little surprising at the time.

The lot that played at Bradford weren't much cop, more crapademy, other than Verlinden and that whippy youngster Adam. Really is a waste of time. Idea will be dropped for next season. Better idea would be to enter teams comprised of supporters!

I went to. Last nights comedy, and it was a comedy.
Eleven strangers set up 3-5-2 for 20 mins. After 2 mins Haugaard and Edwards no communication on a simple pass with an opponent behind you. Edwards evening got worse trying to win a tackle after a miss control slid into a Morecambe player so sent off. Then Bardsley watched a punt go over his head as a striker chased it 30 yards out closed in as Haugaard stood on his line.
Then it was shoot and save between Adam and the Morecambe keeper. Adam played school playground football by beating several players at a time before shooting or chipping it the Diouf. Morecambe then tried many different fouling techniques to stop Charlie.
In the second half a Morecambe sub came on and passed a love letter to a teammate who read it before tucking it into his sock.
Positives N'goy and Taylor link up play on the left. Bardsley and Diouf trying to get rid of match rustiness.

Haugaard is many things, sadly none of them appears to be a goalkeeper.

Does anyone know how this competition works? Are we effectively out after 2 defeats? Apparently not (somehow). There is an article on the BBC website which I saw this morning that listed the teams that have either qualified or been knocked out, and we weren't included? So I assume that if we win our next match and results go our way that we can still qualify?

Mate if it was a brand new competition, a new idea then i'd have no problem with it, these lads need games to turn them into men. This is a competition for 3rd and 4th division teams. Given me some ace memories and days out too in times when i never thought i would see a stoke side at wembley. It has a special place in english football. Ask any supporter of any team whos been to wembley for the final. Clubs on their arse, fallen giants. A premier league team should be nowhere near it and then to use it as a training session for first team outcasts is despicable to be quite honest. I don't agree but can see why people think that. Starting 5 first team squad players though is imo taking the piss. If you are going to be in it actually use it properly. Just saw the goals. Crikey talk about horrendous goalkeeping. Oh dear!
