I remember nearly having my guts crushed out of me on one of those crash barriers in the Boothen following a surge when I was about 14. Nothing to do with the pens. Watching footie was quite dangerous in them days but no-one really thought about it. Absolutely right, happened all the time! I also remember the old Boothen being so full (despite tannoy announcements that the crowd was something ridiculous like 12,586 when anybody with eyes could see it was more like 18,000 - they used very special calculators for crowd size at the Old Vic) that you'd be physically 'picked up' by the shoulders and carried down several flights of concrete steps with no control whatsoever... It was a bit scary at times but also a bit thrilling. In my defence I was a 14 year old from Leek, so I was easily thrilled but that was way before fences. I don't remember at any point thinking the cages were dangerous but then again I wasn't paid a fortune to spot such danger.

That's a matter of opinion Joe. Had all the safety recommendations been implemented by SWFC or crowd capacity reductions been made without improving ground safety plus the use of the outrageous penned terracing then the errors made by the police would not have resulted in tragedy. The police lifted the plug on a volcano waiting to erupt and thus have to share the blame. But they were not the main factor that caused this tragedy IMO. The aftermath lies and cover ups are a different kettle of fish though but, unfortunately, some people let this cloud their judgement of the cause of the tragedy. In your opinion then LL who was or were the main factor? Certainly the police contributed to the tragedy there is no doubt what so ever. But had various authorities and SWFC taken fan safety seriously and made it a priority instead of concentrating on hooliganism alone and, in the case of SWFC, seeing the FA Cup semis as a cash cow and ignoring safety recommendations to sell as many tickets as possible, then the errors made by the police would not have had such a devastating effect. IMO the main cause of this tragedy was the authorities attitude towards football fans including their obsession with caged terracing as a means of crowd control and the overselling of tickets for a ground that was not safe. Because of this Hillsborough was a tragedy waiting to happen. And the police errors ensured it did.

Amazing. It's taken 26 years for the families of the dead to finally get some proper answers and idiots like this want them to 'get over it'.
Just remarkable.

Nobody will be prosecuted. Personally I think you are very wrong in making that statement. No one will be prosecuted as a direct result of this inquest as that is not what inquests are for but I'll be very surprised if some prosecutions don't follow the criminal enquiries running parallel to the inquest. And it won't just be police who are prosecuted there will be a range of authorities and their staff with cases to answer. The tragedy is that the 26 year delay means some will avoid prosecution because they will have died and others because they can no longer be identified but some measure of justice will be done.

You might be right, but life is short and these people have already suffered for 26 years of this short life. They will never get this time back and no doubt there are still many years to go before anything is solved (if it ever is).The poor dead will never be brought back no matter how hard they campaign.

If someone has committed a criminal act which has led to a death or deaths, they should not escape justice because the events happened a long time ago or because you think the victims families need closure ahead of justice. The victims' families' feelings are important but they are not all important. The best way to ensure that people in public life are less likely to fail to do their jobs properly in future is to bring to justice those who committed criminal acts of commission and omission even though it was 26 years ago. As it happens the families seem as eager as the rest of us to see some convictions. What are you going to call for next? Do you want the current enquiries into paedophile rings relating to MPs, Judges and Senior police in London 20 years or more ago be terminated AGAIN on the grounds that it was all a long time ago and the victims must be tired of waiting for justice? Won't you be pleased when senior politicians or Police officers have their day in court and, hopefully a spell behind bars?

26 years of people doubting ( not all of course) the innocence of the fans. That must be hard for the families but at last the truth is emerging. The worse thing is it could have been any clubs supporters including us that day with those that were in charge. As for Thatcher well the cover ups and closing mines, docks when really there was no need sums her up.
