13.5 miles today. 6 miles at 7.33, 7.5 miles at 7.11. Legs felt OK and finally starting to see some light at the tunnel with breathing and heart rate after a ridiculous amount of time due to vaccine (I’m pro-vaccine, but it fucked me up every time) and Covid itself.

I'm entering this for next year, as it's about 20 years since there has been a full 'official' marathon in Leeds I think. I run the NW 13.5 miles of the course most weekends: www.runforall.com/media/o2pjwlz5/leeds_marathon_.pngMiles 4 to 10 will be a steady climb out of Headingley, Creskeld Lane at 11 miles is a lovely twisty descent down a sunken lane with ferns growing on the drystone walls and overshadowed by trees, and then whichever way they are coming out of Otley will be a steep ascent between miles 17-19. 22 miles onwards more or less downhill back to Headingley stadium finish.

I was looking at this for next year. Safe to say it's not a PB course though? Such a shame we don't have our Potteries Marathon still, not sure if there would be much take up though.

Upcoming local races.... Air Products 10K, Crewe, Sunday 17th April, fast 10K, my pb course. Usually a 5K/ fun run beforehand. Uttoxter Half/ 10K from the racecourse 1st May, nice out in the sticks half with a few hills. Clayton 10K 11th May, two laps around Clayton and the Westlands. Westbridge 5 mile, Stone past the river and back on the canal. Nice course. Ipstones 5 mile 18th June, lovely route with a serious uphill start. Coincides with the village fete if you want to take the kids. Use em or lose em. The Cheadle 5 was recently cancelled due to lack of numbers and I heard yesterday that the Betley 10K had been pulled for the same reason. The local races are run by the local running clubs. They tend to be far cheaper than the commercially organised ones and usually offer technical shirts as part of the price. From my experience of the two clubs I've run for over the last 11 years the profits at the end of the year head to local charities.

No, it's probably not a PB course, but I would have thought there would be nothing there to present real problems to a strapping young lad such as yourself . Yes, it is a shame that there are not more regional UK city marathons, but I suppose it must be a real ball ache to organise, what with road closures etc - I suspect that the Leeds one has only got the go ahead on the back of Run for All / Rob Burrows. What about Hull Marathon in September for a PB? - most of the course round there will be pretty flat, although I suppose there is the possibility of strong head / cross winds on the Humber Bridge. www.hullmarathon.co.uk/route-maps/

I've never done a local race that was badly organised or marshalled, and given that I am way slower than most on here, I've never once come across anything other than encouragement from fellow runners.

Surprisingly fun city last time I visited for an away game though.

21 miles in 3:29 yesterday. I’ve also recently ran 16, 18 and 20 plus some 8-10 milers. Pretty hopeful of completing the 26.2 on May 7… 😬😬 what would your advice be for the next 3 weeks training wise please?

Three races in a week for me. A 21 minute 5K into a headwind on the way back would have been a 20 minute 5K without the conditions. A 34 minute 5 miler and a 43 minute 10K so slowly getting quicker again with no major niggles.

8 miles at 6.35 today. Left hamstring a little tight so cut the session short by a mile or so. Few races in a couple of weeks which are deferrals from COViD-postponed races. Not goal races, but I’ve paid to enter so can run as training.

That's unusual to have places left for that one. We are seeing the same thing in the south, races that used to sell out in hours now have places on the day. parkrun attendances across all events around here about 2/3 of what they were pre pandemic. Also agree with PP that races put on by running clubs are usually cheaper (no need to make a profit, the highest cost - labour- is free from club members) plus running clubs know what runners want, so get their races right

Always a carnival atmosphere in the town too. Very well run

After a couple of Covid riddled years it looks like the Staffs Moorlands AC Summer Series is back on Provisional dates... June 16th Roaces June 23rd No race June 30th Oakamoor July 7th Ilam Hall July 14th Shuttlingsloe July 21st Biddulph Grange July 28th Rudyard Lake They're a really good off road taster, well organised and friendly with a league with age groups if you want to do al of them. Some are fairly easy and then there's Shuttlingslow Not just for the hard lads like Timmypotter and Samba:) Edit: Slight amendment, will confirm when the link comes up.

Numbers are generally down on the pre Covid levels on the recent races with numbers still low for some of the forthcoming races. The two established Parkruns at the Wammy and Hanley are down but this seems to be due to the new one at Trentham Gardens which is getting in excess of 500 runners.
