Upcoming local races....
Air Products 10K, Crewe, Sunday 17th April, fast 10K, my pb course. Usually a 5K/ fun run beforehand.
Uttoxter Half/ 10K from the racecourse 1st May, nice out in the sticks half with a few hills.
Clayton 10K 11th May, two laps around Clayton and the Westlands.
Westbridge 5 mile, Stone past the river and back on the canal. Nice course.
Ipstones 5 mile 18th June, lovely route with a serious uphill start. Coincides with the village fete if you want to take the kids.

How do you know when you're pushing too much? I understand the basics. I.e. when you think you're bollocksed, you're probably not even halfway to actually (physically) being done. Running is ultimately about continuing to push when it hurts, and how much pain you can endure and put your body through. I've always wondered how you end up seeing people collapse at the end of (or during) races though? Or even worse, a mild case of death. Its a slightly morbid question, but I've always wondered. I always listen to my body, and ultimately don't run anywhere near far enough for it to hopefully ever be an issue for me. Just wondered how you boys (the proper runners) look after yourselves? There's a very fine line between pushing yourself and overdoing it. Most of us who have raced regularly have definitely pushed ourselves over that line. The point of intervals and tempo training is to extend that capacity really. I remember when I first started really getting into running, and entering races. I definitely surprised myself where that line is to begin with though.

I am thinking of taking part in the Clayton race as it is mid week and means I can keep up the marathon training. Ipstone is after the marathon, so will be fine.

Edinburgh towards the end of May. Not really a target marathon, but since I'm running well on long runs thought I'd have a low pressure go.

There are local buses running you back into the city centre, closer and cheaper than the ones organised by the event

I'm staying near the finish so we can shoot straight after, it's just getting to the start we need to worry about.

Saved me a fortune there, thanks for the heads up!

Terrible day at the office for me in Brighton, had hoped to get around 3.20-3.25, hit half way just under 1.40 but I didn’t feel right at all, had to stop for a puke at mile 19 and it was a torturous plod home over the next 7 miles. Thought it would never end, 3.46 to finish.
I’ve another one in 3 weeks and I’ll be seriously pissed if I don’t hit 3.20-3.25. Need to be getting back to sub 3.15 in the next few months

What was your pacing like? Other than my last marathon, I think setting off too quick was my reason for hitting the wall.

What was your pacing like? Other than my last marathon, I think setting off too quick was my reason for hitting the wall. I ran a even splits of between 7.32-7.45 right up till I bonked. I’ve run lots of marathons so usually have no issue with pacing and this pace should have been comfortable. Just wasn’t my day. Had hoped to go just over 3.20 and bring the time down to 3.10-3.15 over the next few months before going for a sub 3. I’ve another one in 3 weeks and I’ll reassess then

Could always be worse too, I shit myself in a bike race many moons ago. Knew I felt unwell, but would never have got back in the group if I stopped, so I just let it all out! Took a surprising amount of concentration too.

Took a surprising amount of concentration too. I ran a 3.28, 8 weeks ago off only one LR and no marathon training, I’m gradually trying to lower the time to 3.15 (pb 3.05) before having a decent training block for the sub 3. Can’t imagine you were popular in the peloton 😳🤣
