Nice half today 1:44, 5 mile jog with an 8 mile effort really pleased after 5 to 6 months of niggles. Not bad I suppose.... 10 miles today in 1:26 - definitely enjoying the cooler temperatures ATM.

My annual race, Market Drayton 10km 45:48 massive pb but slightly disappointed I didn’t push harder when the 45 minute marker overtook me on 7km. Happy enough with little training. (2004 - 57.41 2006 - 55.14 2010 - 60.47 2016 - 59.23 2017 - 54.42 2018 - 48:31 2019 - 47:58 2020 - cancelled covid 2021 - 45:48) Fantastic running you obviously need to be injured more often Cheers pal. I felt great. I say never again every year but I was looking forward to doing next year. But I’m gutted genuinely can’t do next year as I have a more important bike event same day. Might have to find another ten or even chaperone orbs round the Nottingham half

4:56 for London Ladies & Gents...although my overall; finish time was 5:00 for a 26 & half miles run!
Sadly my hamstring went a bit awol around 20 miles so it was jog/walk/hobble towards 26. As of this Ive pulled out of Manchester this weekend as well it could well end in tears
The new "wave" starts I thought worked well.
The new "Expo" experience needs some work on it for sure. Long prove your test queues & even after dropping of kit bag ready for Sunday collection still got the wrong sized T Shirt put in my bag!
The main thing that is different for me this year is I won't & have not beat myself up regarding my time. Im done with that! I couldn't have done much more, and even ended up running a few miles with a Chorlton Runner who was in trouble so that's my mind clear. :-) Berlin next year will be my final marathon for sure as I cannot guarantee all the time & effort into quality training hours as I did a few years ago. Id rather a hard earned place go to someone who will give it as much as I did 10 years ago.

Since my 20:45 5k PB in mid-August, I got a cold and ran 22:09, then 21:40, then 22:21. The cold's finally clearing up this week, and I ran 21:14. So I'm still surprised my fitness doesn't seem to be bombing all that much despite only running once a week. The knees are no better with the rest (still hurt most if I squat and seemingly more when sitting down), and they're on an NHS waiting list. It's really frustrating that since I took up running last year, I haven't been able to consistently commit, and I'm past my peak now I'm in my 40s!
I'm hoping to walk 150ish miles in Scotland next month (with 15kg on my back), so I'll see how that goes...I've no idea what's happened to me since then. Given my knees didn't seem to be improving, I started running twice a week a month ago, but I'm getting slower and more exhausted. I don't go all out but today ran 5k in 22:04 and was absolutely shattered.

Hard luck on that one, won't see you in Manchester then trudging miles to the start line as the Metro strike is going ahead. Is Berlin a Ballot or can you get direct entry? I've entered the ballot for London for next year, probably same answer as the previous 8 years

Anyone use a pair of carbon plate running shoes? Are they worth the money? Can you tell a difference?

RealBuzz pulled their charity places for H4H after taking advice that their would be disruption....oops! So it goes onto next year Ive been told As for London I will still go for cheer reading duties My record was 4 entires in 8 years!

Anyone use a pair of carbon plate running shoes? Are they worth the money? Can you tell a difference? Yep, makes a big difference. Depends what your target is though, if you are doing your first marathon or half marathon, probably best to stick to some cushioned shoes. If you are a bit of a seasoned runner after shaving seconds/minutes off your time, then worth it. It is dependent on the person, but I got told it can shave off 15 seconds per mile.

I’ve a pair and only wear them racing, I’d have thought they shave off around 5 seconds per mile but maybe I’m just soft 🤣

3.54 at the Manchester marathon yesterday, very warm and an 11.00 start wasn't the best, Saw a few casualties lying on the ground being treated, a medic at the end said there was quite a few with heatstroke and cramping, pushing too hard and not enough water and gels etc by the sounds of it.

Back to back races this weekend just gone. 20 minute 5K on Saturday followed by a 44 minute 10K on Saturday but encouraged by the fact that the first 5K was bang on 21 minutes. Good to be getting back to something like after 5 or 6 months of niggling injuries.

Good luck to all (including me and Yes) running the Yorkshire Marathon tomorrow. Flat-ish course starting in York, out to Sand Hutton, then Stamford Bridge and back into York via a couple of loops. Weather forecast is currently not bad - about 11c at start, no wind to speak of and a 50/50 chance of light rain.

Well, ran my first ever Marathon and got round in about 5 1/2 hrs - I'll never break any records, but as I've always said on here, I run to keep my head straight. It was good to see and chat to runners from Stone, Gnosall and even sunny Rugeley before the race. I didn't catch sight of Yes in the end, but I'm hoping he did well.
I'd recommend the Yorkshire Marathon to anyone doing a first marathon - it was very well organised, about 8,000 running so not so big that the starting times were widely staggered, well supported and reasonably level, although some surprisingly long up-hill drags between 14 and 18 miles. Weather was ok too, some fine drizzle at the start kept things cool and sun never really broke through.

Had a bit of a bad day at the office, but managed to get round in one piece. Time to start looking for me next challenge after a week of recovering, eating and drinking 😁

Having done one, I'm now keen to do some more - not too fussed about London (even if I could get through the ballot), but next year I would definitely consider the Yorkshire one again, and / or Liverpool, although they are unfortunately probably too close together for me. If they run the Hull marathon again next year in September, would maybe do that and then Yorkshire or Liverpool in October. What's the Manchester marathon like, Northy or anyone else?
