I did my local 10k over the weekend and, not being a dedicated runner, was pleased and very surprised to come in quite handily placed in my age category, until I looked into the overall standings and realised I was beaten by about three minutes by the bloke who won the 70+ category... bit of perspective Putting a bit of perspective on it there's no shame in being beaten by a vet 70. I run with a couple of vet 70s, one ran a 10K in his England vest a week ago in 43 minutes and the other did 1:34 in the Stafford Half yesterday

Don't know if anyone else is doing Manchester Marathon but my start time is.....11.35! Its going to be a long day 11.00 for me, pain having to be in the pens between 10.10 and 10.25 as well, hope there are toilets in them. Also with the planned tram/metro strikes it's going to be fun ! Metro & tram strikes.....oh joy!

Metro & tram strikes.....oh joy! Are you guys staying over, are many from the Black pear coming up ? Pears wise I think their is more doing Manchester than London. We are staying over on Salford Quays this time as I had credit from a previous Premier Inn cancelation to use, and so if the buses/metro does go down the pan it won't be that much of an issue for us! Will guarantee that as per London the Black Pear flag will be somewhere en route Also in other news Liverpool R&R will be the last ever this year.

I should be volunteering at Potters, so will give you a shout out! I'll be at Yorkshire too, hoping to finally crack my goal, but whatever will be will be. Shout out will be much appreciated! - I'm also hoping to receive the encouragement of the morning Special Brew drinkers and the vicar ringing his bell on the opposite sides of the top of Anchor Road again this year, which made me smile at just the point I needed it. Re. the Yorkshire Marathon, although I'll be nowhere near you in the actual race, I will be around and about the start fairly early as I have an early slot for the Park and Ride car parking, so say hello if you see me. I will be about 3/4 of a mile from the end, after Heartbreak Hill. I look forward to hearing your expletives!

Good luck to Orbs in his first 13.1 this weekend Enjoy your runs and races everyone else Cheers Northy! managed to get under 2 hours - interestingly Strava seemed to measure the course long - 13.4 miles on mine but further on others. Anyway, Starva said 1:51 but the official time was 1:54. I'm happier than Fel when the Saga catalogue arrives. Never, ever thought I'd get below 2 hours so the Shiraz is a-flowing tonate! All the training was worth it in the end.

I did run around with the guy I've been training with and so that did help. I've taken it more seriously this year and done 20-25 miles per week. Quite enjoyed it - especially now I'm 'cured.' (not in the bacon sense...)

Yes, support was excellent as usual all round the route - a real credit to the city - and hats off to all the organisation behind it. I was glad I wasn't carrying that 80kg stretcher with the army lads - it was a bit warm for my liking through Bentilee when the sun came out.

Okie dokie just back from an early start to pick up number for London....and so glad I got it done today! Had my proof of negative test on the phone, and QR code for the new normal....
1st up. Show the negative test to get into the Excel......then off to baggage desk. Hand over baggage which is scanned in, with t shirt & medal added to bag and deposited into a collection box for Sunday post run. Your box number is printed on your vest number which you pick up from.....the next hall
2nd hall. Show ID & negative text, pick up number with collection box details on front. Off to Expo which is smaller than before & spend silly money on something with the London Marathon logo on
Walk out by 10.30 & admire the queues for those people whop arrived at the normal time (of which the queue was already heading back towards Custom House DLR station) and get train back to Central London for a pint
I hope to God that it isn't the future of marathon number pick ups/Expos as it really was today a complete pain in the arse

Tomorrow is simple go to hotel, dump stuff & just do as little as possible

My annual race, Market Drayton 10km 45:48 massive pb but slightly disappointed I didn’t push harder when the 45 minute marker overtook me on 7km. Happy enough with little training.
(2004 - 57.41 2006 - 55.14 2010 - 60.47 2016 - 59.23 2017 - 54.42 2018 - 48:31 2019 - 47:58 2020 - cancelled covid 2021 - 45:48)
