I’ve had to take a week or two off, crazy shin splints!! Have a look on YouTube at some of the running channels on there. I've picked up loads of information about stretching. As I'm getting older I'm realising I probably need to do more to avoid injury. I'm pleased the gyms are opening next week, I'll keep my running up but probably drop a day in favour of going back to strength and core exercises. I've struggled most without being able to do these easily over the past lockdown. There's only so much you can do at home. I've been religious with it in the past and credit it with alleviating so much back pain etc, but working from home without appropriate office equipment is probably contributing to making this worse.

Will do cheers mate, I’ve always had tight calves (and Pringle hamstrings!) I’ll give them a scan over!👍🏻 Ditto re the gym, cannot wait! The kitchen breakfast far and relevant stools are destroying my erectors and glutes!

Try and touch your toes with no shoes on. (Control measure)
Then Stand or sit with a golf ball under your foot. 10 minutes each foot. Just roll that ball under your big toe first. Then the rest of your toes. The whole foot. Like a foam roller. Then do the other foot. It should be uncomfortable to do
Once done touch your toes. That will show the improvement in flexibility
Nearly all knee hip back problems stem from the foot and it’s one area people neglect with stretches warm ups and foam rollers.
Try it. It might help your shin splits out

Just over 8 miles in 1 hour 10 today - in 8.46 per mile or 5.27 per km. I did the same route in 1 hour 16 on January 7 - quite pleased!

Managed a couple of runs after my back injury, but then Friday evening when cooking tea and stuff I managed to trap a nerve in my shoulder, been in agony since and having to sleep upright on the settee at nights as impossible to lie down on any side, or front or back. Been trying for 2 days to get to the doctors with no joy yet.

Happy ending. I twisted my ankle on my half marathon the other week. Didn't feel bad at the time but it's hindering me now. Held off any significant distance since Saturday but managed my usual lunchtime run today. Have been back to the gym too this week and I only usually do a free weight set using the dumbbells and some core exercises. I threw some squats in using a frame to maintain form. Jesus Christ my hamstrings were tight. I'll be intrigued to see if building a few of these up improves my running. Working from home is doing me no good, I spent months in a deckchair with a laptop on my knees, moved to sit on the bed all day and have ended up with knee, hip and back ache. No other option as mar lady has 3 monitors on the go so there's no space anywhere else. I'm going to sit in Weatherspoons on their WiFi when you can sit inside again.

I’ve had to take a week or two off, crazy shin splints!! I’ve packed it in. Various issues with my feet and neck related to old football injuries. I splashed out on an electric mountain bike, which I can use everyday, burning roughly the same calories (according to apple watch) as my usual run. The difference being, I could only run once a week in the end due to my body being absolutely in bits. Good luck to the runners but I wear lycra now.

I’ll have to go hunting for a golf ball off of the old man, I’m sure it’s my feet which cause the issues, about 1k in my arches are killing!

I’m giving it a couple of weeks R&R whilst doing the exercises suggested on here, if I’m still in agony, I may have to join the lycra merchants!

He's gone from lardy-short-arse to adonis-short-arse in about 12 months due mainly to cycling.

How heavy are they? I've struggled with my left achilles in particular, but also with rubbing on the bottom of my feet, so sounds like it's worth a go.

Been a quiet few days?! Broke 24 minutes for 5k yesterday - (23.59 ) Last parkrun was 28.40 and came in 208th out of 420. 23.59 would have been 79th. Although, it's got a couple of 'hills' in it
