Went out an ran an old army test today 1.5 miles best effort 29 years old and younger have 10 minutes 30 seconds After 29 years of age you get an extra 30 seconds for every 5 years of age until the age of 50 then you no longer have to do it At 45 I have about 12 1/2 minutes. I was aiming to do it as under 30 10mins 34 secs 1.51 miles. Average pace 7.01 Gutted Out of interest I don't suppose you can remember what time you did back in the day? I was always a 9-30 to 10-30 guy. Til I was 30 then I had bad ankle injuries so was pretty much exempt after 32 I hated running and was never that good at it. Even now I can’t run without an ankle brace The other test was 8 miles squad March in two hours with 40 or so pounds on your back. I preferred these sort of runs

Did 10km yesterday. I'm not built for running and weighed 96kg last time I checked, so generally I just go for less than 6 mins per km which I can manage comfortably. I did it in 58 minutes after doing the first 5km in 30, but could have gone quicker. Did another 5km today at an average pace of 5m40/km which is my best so far since I've started jogging/running. Not bad considering I ran yesterday and that I did it in the city, during rush hour, with plenty of steep inclines and declines. The main concern I have is that my BPM has hit 192 a few times when I push myself (as today), which is significantly over the max limit I've seen for a 40 year old. I regularly hit over 185 as well. I don't think that maximum heart rate is any sort of issue my maximum BPM goes up to around 190 and I'm considerably older than you. The formula of 220 less your age is a rough guide apparently. I was talking to a coach a few weeks back and he said that doing the same runs at the same speed over a period of time will narrow that heart rate flexibility and therefore when called on the maximum heart rate will be a limiting factor to performance. I've just looked at Sunday morning's run which was 10 miles cross country and the maximum heart rate was 185 at the end of the run which was on a flat section where we pushed it at the end of the run albeit fairly comfortable running. The BPM was nowhere near that running at a comfortable pace up some steep hills.

8k tonight. Just under 44 minutes.
My first run in 4 weeks. Really struggling to strike up a regular routine at the moment. First 7 months of the year were great. Consistently running 3 times a week, sometimes 4. Every week without fail.
Last couple of months have been poor. Need to get the routine going again.

It’ll only take a couple of weeks to get back into it. Maybe try a couple of shorter runs get going again? If it’s any consolation I have to make myself go running every single time and I don’t really enjoy it either!

Even during the winter months when its dark, wet and cold!! Its getting into the routine once I've broken the habit that I struggle with. I'll get there though. I set myself a goal at the start of the year to run 1000km before the year was out. I'm currently on 857km, so thats given me something to focus on.

Cheptegei set a new world 10k in Valencia, 26.11.02 Drug free? I'd hope so. When I was on drugs* I wouldn't have been able to lace up my trainers let alone run around anywhere. *Disclaimer I've never been on drugs...

Another 40 minute 10K this morning in cold, windy and wet conditions on the Werrington Bagnall "plateau" with over 300 feet of climb and another season's best time. Horrible, horrible weather for racing and not helped by the odd tractor, lorry tanker and more than a few cars on the lanes today

Horrible, horrible weather for racing and not helped by the odd tractor, lorry tanker and more than a few cars on the lanes today I managed 5k this morning after 12 days without a run. Breathing out of my arse for the last mile and vowing never to leave it 12 days again 😂

I may see if they are still taking entries, couple of Guinness watching the footy this afternoon may have swayed me.

It's a fairly traffic free route apart from the Withystakes junction and even that has the parallel pavement if you remember. The other benefit is it meets elevation requirements. Ten of us ran it over two groups.

I heard yesterday that it was the greed of pushing the numbers up to 1500 that caused the issues there. It all depends on any further announcements tomorrow I suppose but as has been pointed out on this thread these companies just promote the races irrespective of possible cancellation. They're re-routed to say within Cheshire East because Cheshire West wouldn't sanction the race but Cheshire East were happy. The target if it goes ahead is 39:59
