First sub 53 minute 10K today (52.45) - well chuffed. Partly because it's a bit cooler but mainly down to rice pudding power. Had 3/4 of a tin before bed and the rest for breakfast. Felonious was saying I was running out of steam at the end and needed some better fuel. Well, it's definitely worked. I could tell the last couple of K were still hard but I was defo going quicker than normal.

I discovered the importance of running varied routes this morning.
Iβve been running pretty much the same route since April, but had to try a different route due to it being pitch black today.
Similar distance but a much different feeling in my legs and lungs.

6 miles cross country last night up and over the Roaches on the old Staffs Moorlands Summer Series route. Lovely and sunny up and along the ridge and bloody freezing on the other side

My first ever 5k today! That's unless I ran one when I was in the cross country team at school - I've no idea how long those races were, but they didn't seem as long as 5k. The last 200 metres were the hardest I've run in my adult life when not running for a train. I also ran downhill on a short track tangly with hawthorns I thought would connect up, but it was a dead-end so I had to run back up. 23:46 is a pleasing estimated time (from a total run of 5.14k) for my first effort! Possibly another 5k tomorrow - I have a hire car to pick up. Taxi or run and walk? I'm new to this thread and hope posting times isn't offputting for anyone thinking of taking up running or posting here. I was enjoying running before I started to think about times, and improving those times has been an added motivation since. And I started to enjoy running more when I consciously slowed my pace - more of a jog to help build up the fitness.

If that's your first 5K it's a fantastic time Join a club you'll get the social as well as getting some target practise Awesome suggestion - I've just looked into it, as I looked into competing but didn't think about a club. Do you know if the clubs are mostly road/pavement running? I want to avoid that and also can't do anything too extreme trail running-wise in the short-term. I'd prefer trail running in the long-term but wouldn't mind the odd 5k on a hard surface. newcastlestaffsac.org.uk/information/when-do-we-train/ may be my most local - I see they train on a track but compete in cross country races, so maybe it's a good fit.

Back in Stoke this morning for a 5 mile run along the canal and the river pathway path the new and old grounds. That's where I ran to pick up my hire care this morning! From Wolstantan, onto the canal by Bet365 and off at Stoke. And thanks for your PM about running clubs.

10 mile run this morning proper cross country through Silverdale, Apedale and Bateswood country parks. Loads of climbs including the top of Apedale, the climb up to Wood Lane, from Bateswood to the cricket club at Scot Hay, back down and up again to the transmitter at the top of Silverdale country park. Loving the new New Balance trail shoes I didn't slip once in the mud.

Very impressed with the ladies and gents of Silverdale Running Club this morning. They'd organised a marathon within the park consisting of 9 laps of just under three miles per lap. What was impressive is that each lap meant climbing up to the transmitter at High Lane that's a tough marathon for those doing the full run and not the easiest route for those doing the relays

After signing up to the virtual Manchester Marathon which means 26 miles during October which Im fine with, took time today to amble (ahem) around with some of our club runners doing their London duties. Also managed an interview with BBC Worcs & Hereford while we were manning one of our refreshment tents we set up to aid the runners today
...oh and the amble was 8.5 mile at 8.45s!

Not sure how much fun it would have been for those doing the full run with the surface varying and uneven in places plus plenty of gravel about. We came into the park for the last couple of miles so didn't realise until we stopped to chat at the end that that's what they were doing. It's got all the hallmarks of becoming a very good club training, as they do, between God's favourite two villages

Went out an ran an old army test today 1.5 miles best effort
29 years old and younger have 10 minutes 30 seconds After 29 years of age you get an extra 30 seconds for every 5 years of age until the age of 50 then you no longer have to do it
At 45 I have about 12 1/2 minutes. I was aiming to do it as under 30
10mins 34 secs 1.51 miles. Average pace 7.01 Gutted
