Extreme novice here. Got myself a treadmill around Christmas and probably used it 3 times in as many months. Anyway, as I've been working from home and saving myself 3 hours a day commute, I thought there's no excuse now not to get on it. I'm 37 and overweight (18 stone) but like to think I carry it well :-) (6ft4). I'd heard the Couch 2 5k app was pretty good for beginners/slobs so thought I'd give it a shot. I completed week 7 yesterday (5 min walk/25 min run/5 min walk) and doing week 8 run 1 tomorrow which is a 28 min run. I wouldn't have thought I'd be able run 25 mins non stop 7 weeks ago! I've done 25 mins 3 times now and failed it once as I had to slow down after about 17 mins due to extreme stitch. I put that down to not having a thing to eat all day. Annoyed I failed it but wasn't too hard on myself. Not ventured outside yet but will do soon. If anybody is thinking of taking up running I really recommend the app as it has achievable targets but makes you want to complete each run even when you are struggling (all in the mind!) I've noticed definite shrinking of moobage and even muscly shins, but not lost any weight yet! I think the best thing is the great feeling I get about 10 mins after I've done a run :-) Hopefully I'll keep it up. Yours is a similar story to mine, mate. I've never really been a runner. I invested in a treadmill last July and started on that. Similar to you, I couldn't even run 5k without stopping to catch breath a couple of times. I didn't follow any kind of "couch to 5k" programme but I just kept at it until I could run 5k without stopping. That in itself was a feat!! Once I'd managed that I eventually had the confidence to go running outdoors, and that was a complete gamechanger. I cant stress how much more enjoyable running outdoors is, compared to the treadmill. For me personally too, I find I can run longer distances and faster pace outdoors too, compated to the treadmill. After a few weeks of solo running I eventually built up the confidence to try a park run. Again, massive gamechanger. The social aspect and the atmosphere is absolutely brilliant. I definitely recommend you getting involved once the world returns to some normality. I then spent the next couple of months working on my 5k PB, which came down pretty quick once I started doing the park runs. I've since gone onto build upto 10k and half marathon distance. I'm nowhere near the standard of most of the people on this thread, but you're only in competition with yourself and I take massive pride in the small gains I make (the early days of quick and large gains eventually become much harder and slower to come by!!). Keep at it. And keep us updated 👍👍 I'd go along with this. Never been a lazy git, gym 5 days a week for 20 years about 15 of them religiously using a versa climber reaching the vertical height of Everest every couple of weeks. Started to run on the treadmill when I changed gyms but was doing a lot of core and weight work to help with back and posture problems. Anyone struggling with this get a Swiss ball and just do a load of sit ups. I was doing about 500 4 days a week pre lockdown, I'm on a 1000 a day now and it's helping massively with all the slumping and sitting in shitty chairs when you're hunched over a laptop at home. Then lockdown. Haven't run outside for 20 years, had umpteen joint and tendon problems so always looked for low impact exercise. Had to bite the bullet and start running outside, started off with a steady 7.5k then strained my calf so have backed off to 5k with a target of getting as close to 20 minutes as I can. I don't expect to achieve it but you never know if you put your mind to it. Key thing is maintaining the discipline but not feeling guilty if you miss a day, just make sure you make up for it and keep ticking over. I'm not into running any races or joining clubs but I'm interested in getting better and get a buzz every time I go out. The interaction on here I'd great and I really appreciate the time people have taken to give advice when I've asked for it.

Steady 5 miles in 43:49 around Tittesworth tonight with a few of the lads and lasses just 5 of us and socially distanced of course. The heavy rain thankfully held off but it looked like it had been heavy all the way back home I think we got lucky.
Back to flat out on Saturday which should give me an idea what speed I've built up in the last few months.

Just worked out my average time for the 26 runs so far is 53mins 46sec, which I'm very pleased with. About 4 minutes below my PB.
I was expecting the times to get gradually slower as time went on, creeping upto (and possibly above) the 1 hour mark. If anything though, I've actually felt better as I've reached the end of the challenge.
Around runs 8 to 12 I remember really struggling and thinking maybe I'd bitten off more than I can chew. The last 4 runs have felt really good though. Cant quite figure that out. 🤷♂️
Fastest time 50:50 Slowest time 55:29
Last 4 runs - 52:35, 52:20, 52:07 and 51:40.
Few drinks this weekend will no doubt add a minute or two to those times, mind. 🍻👍🏃♂️

41 minutes this morning for a hilly 10K incorporating the middle 5 miles of the Werrington 10K. Back to back 20 minute 5K splits more than happy with that.

I did 2 miles of mine this morning and stopped, think the beer and takeaway last night didn't help, I'm obviously not a hardened athlete like the rest of my club! Having a go on Monday up and down the Wammy with a friend 👍

I reckon I'd have been sub 40 on the Wammy this morning
