Tough hilly half marathon training run this morning in 1:36 well happy with that. Bagnall, Wetley Common, Cellarhead, Light Oaks area. For Yes's information only I was paced by one of the top local lady runners Is this the same one you spoke about the other week that I've never really met? Runs with Trentham? Cracking pace that, and in a training run. No the other one I run with won the Potters Arf a few years back in 1:26? You'll know this one she was second lady in the league behind your delightful lady runner. She's a Vet 50 and ran 1:31 at a half marathon in February just before lock down. I was pleased with today because the first two miles were very little effort just under 8s before we both kicked in. Big negative split the last 5 miles were virtually bang on 7 minute miling and considering I've only been doing 8 miles on a regular basis with an occasional 10 mile run it was a real boost. The Werrington 10K route is a slow 10K I'm usually a minute or two down on the time. This half took in the 5 mile loop in the middle of that 10K twice.

Being serious for a moment there's nothing to train for but one of the groups I train with were organising a distanced group run for 6 today advertised as 8 miles. Yesterday I found out they'd decided to do 13.1 The two hour social afterwards was off the scale something I have really missed

I just need NNs mobile and I've got all three

Extreme novice here. Got myself a treadmill around Christmas and probably used it 3 times in as many months. Anyway, as I've been working from home and saving myself 3 hours a day commute, I thought there's no excuse now not to get on it. I'm 37 and overweight (18 stone) but like to think I carry it well :-) (6ft4).
I'd heard the Couch 2 5k app was pretty good for beginners/slobs so thought I'd give it a shot. I completed week 7 yesterday (5 min walk/25 min run/5 min walk) and doing week 8 run 1 tomorrow which is a 28 min run. I wouldn't have thought I'd be able run 25 mins non stop 7 weeks ago! I've done 25 mins 3 times now and failed it once as I had to slow down after about 17 mins due to extreme stitch. I put that down to not having a thing to eat all day. Annoyed I failed it but wasn't too hard on myself.
Not ventured outside yet but will do soon. If anybody is thinking of taking up running I really recommend the app as it has achievable targets but makes you want to complete each run even when you are struggling (all in the mind!)
I've noticed definite shrinking of moobage and even muscly shins, but not lost any weight yet!
I think the best thing is the great feeling I get about 10 mins after I've done a run :-) Hopefully I'll keep it up.

Great to read these encouraging threads I had 9 months off the running up to the end of July last year with intermittent knee issues and kept myself reasonably fit with excessive walking. When I started back last July I joined up with the local club's couch to 5K group mainly to make sure that I didn't overdo it by starting at my own club with the usual running mates I've recommended them to several local runners, great set up and fantastic encouragement for new starters to running. You'll find that all the running clubs offer beginner groups and of course as mentioned many times the Parkruns are a fabulous place to start.

Prompted by Adderleygreenstokies post above my own lad started running again 2 and a bit months ago after a six year sabbatical from all forms of exercise after retiring from football aged 16 and a half. I've been begging him for years to start running or to go for a run with me to no avail but being able to use the cheeky "If I die from Coronavirus and you didn't go for that run with me just think how bad you'll feel" line hit the spot At 16 he was the proverbial box to box midfielder playing and training up to 5 times a week and as fit as any 16 year old out there. He's 6 3/ 6 4 and has now lost a couple of stone since lockdown down to 12 stone and down to 28 minutes non stop for a 5K. He's also managed a 10K with a few stops. Anyone reading these threads and thinking about starting just get on with it. Beyond the getting fit, feeling better, weight loss, etc there's also a great social to be had if you want it

I think the best thing is the great feeling I get about 10 mins after I've done a run :-) Hopefully I'll keep it up. Yours is a similar story to mine, mate. I've never really been a runner. I invested in a treadmill last July and started on that. Similar to you, I couldn't even run 5k without stopping to catch breath a couple of times. I didn't follow any kind of "couch to 5k" programme but I just kept at it until I could run 5k without stopping. That in itself was a feat!! Once I'd managed that I eventually had the confidence to go running outdoors, and that was a complete gamechanger. I cant stress how much more enjoyable running outdoors is, compared to the treadmill. For me personally too, I find I can run longer distances and faster pace outdoors too, compated to the treadmill. After a few weeks of solo running I eventually built up the confidence to try a park run. Again, massive gamechanger. The social aspect and the atmosphere is absolutely brilliant. I definitely recommend you getting involved once the world returns to some normality. I then spent the next couple of months working on my 5k PB, which came down pretty quick once I started doing the park runs. I've since gone onto build upto 10k and half marathon distance. I'm nowhere near the standard of most of the people on this thread, but you're only in competition with yourself and I take massive pride in the small gains I make (the early days of quick and large gains eventually become much harder and slower to come by!!). Keep at it. And keep us updated 👍👍

Then I stopped as I moved had kids, injuries and put on weight From 2010 I tried to run the annual 10k in Drayton. Always around the hour. In 2017 I run it in 54 minutes. My only run of the year but my mate was gutted I beat him. So I started to run more and trained a lot for 2018 getting a 48.29 and in 2019 a 47.58. Haven’t run since until lockdown. Got the boy running so did two with him then a solo 5km yesterday. 25.01 I’ll do a bit more but it hurts my feet big time. Aiming for a sub 23min 5k and the rearranged 10k around 46. Cycling still the biggest priority

Just completed the week 8 run 1.
5 min warm up walk 28 min run 5 min cool down walk
It was hard but managed it. I tend to struggle about half way through but just plod on knowing I can do it. Did exactly 6km so pleased with that. Plan is to carry on doing it 3 times a week after the program is finished. At current pace, which I know isn't fast, I should do 5km in around 28 mins 30 secs. I want to get used to running for this long then I'll try to work on quicker times.
17 stone 9 now so I guess I am losing abit of weight :-)
Definitely taking less time to recover as well. Think the challenge will be keeping it up when I'm back at work.

He's also only has 2 drinking sessions since lockdown and he's sorted the food intake out as well. I think both he and his girlfriend decided that they were both going to use lockdown to lose a bit of weight. She was training for a cancer charity 10K last month and I gather she's up to 7 mile runs now and has drpped a stone.
