Heskey is shit.
But he’s good shit.
If it makes Rooney happy and it brings the best out of him then I say we start with the big shitty shit player.
We need the good shit.

I feel dirty that I've stuck up for Heskey.

bayern: I do understand what you're saying mate and (I may be wrong) but I was sure I've read posts of yours saying that you wouldn't want Heskey at Stoke (Apologies if I'm wrong). It just doesn't seem to tie in with wanting him in the England team. I think people are being a little blinded by the 'Heskey' effect on Rooney in that Rooney went a couple of years (I think) without scoring for England prior to Heskey getting recalled. On the face of it, yes, Rooney then goes on to get goals like clockwork for England. The conclusions look obvious but it's not that simple. Rooney had a couple of pretty meadiocre seasons back then, even at club level but has been in great form this past couple of seasons. Add to that the fact that the opposition for England has been pretty piss poor and you end up with a Rooney goal-scoring revival. My contention is that Rooney would have scored just as many without Heskey in the side and, given the role he plays for his club, might have scored many more. I know it can't be proven either way but lets not pretend that Heskey has been 'good' in an England shirt because (honestly) I would have noticed.

Doz I agree with You completely but I'm resigned to seeing this donkey in the summer partnering Rooney and I am happy clapping. I think Crouch should start but it will be Heskey, so fuck it I'm happy with that!
And I would be loathed to see him in a Stoke shirt because he is a donkey that just falls over and whines a lot.
Rob will tell You that about a month ago I was saying exactly the same things as You. I've given up though! ;D

Yeah, WTF I'll support England as ever and I hope he plays like a demon and makes me look stupid (that's certainly nothing new ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif) ). I accept that Mr Capello knows better than I but one has to vent one's spleen at times. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

It's the only way for it. If he plays badly though....... ;D And I will never want him for us. Get Leon Cort back and play up front if it means not Heskey! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Doz - I don't think you can be objective about this mate. Heskey consistently did the job expected of him for England - it was more than "occasionally". You also talk about "a collection" of Europe's poorest nations" but Croatia hadn't been beaten at home before and Ukraine are certainly no pushovers - if anything, it was no trickier than the group that McClaren so spectacularly fucked up the campaign previously. If Heskey's presence is just incidental then why does Rooney, in Capello's system, not look as influential alongside Defoe or even Crouch?
