I like Fabio, I really do, but why say he will only take 'in form and fit players'. All of the below are either, niether or neither - nor! Walcott is still dining out on his Croatia Hat trick - big time.
Cashley Cole Ferdinand Carragher Walcott Wright Phillips Defoe Heskey Joe Cole

I think it depends on how bad Barry's injury turns out to be.
I can't see him gambling on him
I think I'd take all 5 strikers.
I think we can probably rule out Dawson, Warnock, Joe Cole, Adam Johnson, and one of Walcott/SWP - plus Barry and one of Hudd/Parker

Im stunned that Heskey warrants a place in that squad ahead of a far better player in Carlton Cole.
WTF Capello, Heskey is shite and always has been. Its only the fact that Rooney likes playing alongside him that he gets picked.

I would have put Gary Neville in, his omission was the biggest surprise for me

Shawcross overtaken by Carragher, King and Dawson within 7-8 weeks.
His injury really came at the wrong time.
No problem really with Dawson and King - but Carragher is pretty bizarre

Everyone who is slating Heskey’s inclusion due to his form is missing the point.
It’s all to do with the influence of Rooney and the fact that Heskey is his preferred partner. Capello was always going to select him. He was as nailed on as Rooney was as being an “automatic selection”.
p.s. I’m a bit disappointed to be honest.
Not just because Ryan has been left out, but because Capello said he picks on form, not reputation.
He then goes and picks on reputation.
Daft Cunt.

Heskey has presumably been included because he was an effective part of the qualifying campaign, in playing the role of selfless, space-creating target man who helped us to flourish and finish among the top scorers. He has by all accounts been dreadful for Villa, but given that he's been part of a Capello system that works, it's not hard to see why he's been included. His own lack of goals matters far less if he's contributing to the team scoring plenty.

He is excellent and has so much potential, but I think the Euros in 2 years time and then obviously the next world cup will see Ryan in his prime

Walcott has been shite for most of the season, only recently showing better form. Time after time he dissapoints though.

Sadly, I suspect will will see very early in the competition just why Villa fans have been lambasting Heskey. He may have been 'effective' occasionally partnered with Roony but his current form is worse than wank. I can well understand why a striker, who works his nuts off all season, scores a hat-full of goals for his club and has been in fantastic form, might just tell Capello to fuck off when he sees Heskey lining up. I understand the argument for Heskey - just think it's utter bollocks.

Carragher will definitely be in the final 23 as he must have had assurances otherwise he wouldn't have come out of retirement... On SSN they're saying it'll be as cover for Glen Johnson as much as anything else( instead of Gary Neville?) and the fact he can play right across the back line..

If Carra really is there as back up rather than first choice then i can live with it if it means we can take 5 strikers instead of 4 + gary neville and a centre half.
Lets face it Neville has been struggling for fitness for a couple of years and even a lot of united fans are wishing he'd fuck off. Who else is there at RB? Take Jagielka maybe, but he doesn't have anywhere near the experience at RB that Carragher has.

Nio surprise that Ryan didn't get in the squad. He's not played many games since that Ramsay tackle. He's one for the future.

I suggested earlier that we shouldn't 'hang' Capello before he'd actually selected his squad.
Anyone know a good scaffolding company?

I think Adam Johnson will go ahead of one of SW-P/Walcott/Lennon (fitness) - he is in better form than the first two and the last one is just not fit. Both Parker and Huddlestone may go if Barry cannot make it back from his ankle injury, or just one as his back-up otherwise. It could be between Joe Cole and Milner for the other spare midfield spot in the squad.
Carra is a strange one - after his strop and self-imposed exile, you'd have thought he would only come back for a certain spot. Dawson will not make it, but I reckon King will go ahead of Upson.
I reckon he'll leave behind, fitness permitting:
Dawson Upson Warnock J Cole/Milner Huddlestone SW-P Bent

Well on the plus side Ryan get's the summer off and he will come back next season stronger for us.
It's a disgrace that Carragher has been picked because he has been awful this year. You can add Matty Upson to that list as well. Still though, i'm not bitter about it. I hope if either of them do make it to the final 23 then they have a blinding world cup and help us win it.

If Barry doesn't make it, presumably either Parker or Huddlestone wil not only be in the squad, but be starting as the more defensive midfielder alongside Lampard?
I still can't believe Heskey will start. Will he...really?
