He’ll probably go: Green Johnson Terry Rio Cole Lennon Lampard Carrick Gerrard Heskey Rooney (If Barry isn't fit and Lennon is)

For the final squad I'd get rid of:
Upson - Had the worst season of all the centre-halves by far. Shawcross, Cahill and Jagielka should all be well ahead of him.
Warnock - Good player but Baines has been slightly better this season and will go as back-up to A. Cole.
Dawson - Had a good season and SHOULD go ahead of Carragher, but sadly won't.
Huddlestone - Good experience being called up but not good enough for a World Cup yet.
Barry - Looks likely to be beaten by his injury. If he recovers then he will go instead of Parker.
Wright-Phillips & Walcott - We cannot afford to take too many wingers and therefore need to keep the ones that have been in the best form this season, so J. Cole, Lennon, Milner and A. Johnson should go to South Africa.

Get rid of Heskey and Carragher for starters. Warnock? World Cup worthy? I think not. Upson can piss off too.

Carragher is in as back up at right back and will have to go won't he?
Hart Green James
Johnson Carragher
Terry Rio Dawson King
Cole Baines
Lennon Walcott
Gerrard Lampard Barry/Parker Carrick
Milner Cole
Rooney Heskey Crouch Defoe
That is the squad I think he'll go for. Maybe with Upson in but I hope not. Walcott will go because he can cover 2 positions.

Doesn't fill you with that much confidence. The first 11 not bad, but the forwardline, Rooney excepted is rubbish. The back up contains some real donkeys in Carragher and Dawson and the goalkeepers aren't even Premier League class. Green must be the worst No.1 goalkeeper we have gone into any WC with.

Fca: I agree mate. Green will almost certainly get the nod but he's been far from impressive. Hart has been outstanding all season and (for me) has easily been the best goalkeeper this season. Because he's been at Birmingham, he's probably been selected as third choice. WHY? when he has been way ahead of any other English keeper this season? Even Robinson has been far better than Green this season and yet Green will probably be first choice. I'm no expert on anything but the logic beats me.

That doesn't exactly surprise me RAF to be honest. He's England's current number one and Gordon is an absolute 'Gent'. Going into a World Cup, I very much doubt that Gordon would do anything other than give our number one keeper his full support - and quite right. I'm not saying he DOESN'T rate him but I rather think Gordon would give unqualified support to whoever was in goal. Anyone who has followed the Premier League this season couldn't possibly reach the conclusion that Green has been better than Hart, even allowing for the fact that Banksie knows the art far better than I.
Bayern: Hope so!

When you see the squad you realise just how hard it will be to win the tournament.
Big question marks over Rob Green, I'm unsure about Johnson's defending, Rio isn't fit, Lennon is a good player but will he do it at the highest level, who will play in the central midfield roles and wide left?
And up front?
Go past Rooney and we aint got much to scare teams really.
As for the rest of the squad?
Baines, Warnock, hop-a-long King, Dawson, Upson, Huddlestone, Carrick, Heskey.
Hardly world class is it?
I want England to win the World Cup as much as anyone but I think the semi's are the very best we can hope for in my opinion.

personally think capello should ignore carragher, he's only come out of retirement cus he's had such a shit season with liverpool and he's hoping for glory elsewhere, looks bad for the defenders that have had a decent season really!!

tallpaul75: That's what has annoyed me mate. Carragher has had a very poor season and that's from some of his staunchest supporters that I come into contact with. So how the hell can anyone marry that with a selection for a World Cup squad, particularly since he turned his back on England some years ago. For me - an astounding selection.

As much as I like Ledley King, the chances of him making it through the tournament with his knees is pretty much zero. Trying to get Carragher back is a disgrace and I don't think Dawson, Jagielka or Lescott are any better than Ryan.

As expected pretty much Ryan's been unlucky not to be named when you think of Carragher who's been awful this year being picked. I don't like Bent and would have prefered Zamora but am pleased Parkers been picked and Baines who I'm big fans of.

I'd hope the one benefit of Carragher's versatility being included may be to allow us to go for a 7-8-5 split, which will at least allow us to take the extra option of Darren Bent.
But he will probably take Upson or Dawson as a 4th specialist CB as we've boxed ourselves into a corner over King's fitness, meaning there'll probably be no space for Bent.
Upson wouldn't even be in my 30, but it'd be a big call to leave him out after he's been a big Capello favourite.
It's be a massive call to include Barry. It looks like he's been included more in hope than expectation. It'd be great to see Scott Parker in there instead.
I think I'd take Joe Cole over the over-rated Adam Johnson.
I can see us ending up with:
Green James Hart
Johnson Carragher Terry Ferdinand King Upson (or Dawson) Cole Baines
Lennon Walcott (or SWP) Gerrard Lampard Parker (or Huddlestone ) Milner Carrick Cole (or Johnson)
Crouch Heskey Rooney Defoe

Everyone who is slating Heskey’s inclusion due to his form is missing the point. It’s all to do with the influence of Rooney and the fact that Heskey is his preferred partner. Capello was always going to select him. He was as nailed on as Rooney was as being an “automatic selection”. p.s. I’m a bit disappointed to be honest. Not just because Ryan has been left out, but because Capello said he picks on form, not reputation. He then goes and picks on reputation. Daft Cunt. you make a good point about heskey ye when mama is picked to playe with fuller you moan and slag the big man off, mama does the same job as heskey

I wouldn’t take Bent, it would be a waste of a space IMO.
Rooney is the main man up front and then you have the options of whether to play Heskey or Crouch alongside him. Heskey is Rooney’s favourite but it’s difficult to look past Crouch with his scoring record for England.
Behind these 3 you have Defoe as 4th choice. Again, he could play alongside either Heskey or Crouch as the pacey option alongside the target man.
If required (which I can’t really see the need) you could have Walcott as a 5th option with his out and out pace from the bench.
You’ve also got the option of playing someone like Cole, Lampard, Gerrard etc behind one front man (Rooney).

At the time I was calling for Kitson to play as he could do the "Mama role" better than Mama could. Kits can fuck off now though along with Beats. New forwards required in the summer.

i think dawson deserves to be in there to be honest think he done well at spurs and king is a gamble with his fitness but he been playing well lately as for carragher going he the only other one that can play right back to be honest apart from johnson or wes brown but i dont rate wes brown at right back you saw how brazil tore him apart that time when they beat england 1-0 so at least carragher got good experience.

Jamie fucking Carragher.
The same twat who turned his back on England and then admitted it hurt less playing in an England defeat than a Liverpool one.
It'd be bad enough if he was good but he's not even that - he's shite.

OK, now this is very, very hard for me to say but.......... On all known current form, Gary Neville is much better at right back than Carragher. I can't do with Neville quite honestly but Carragher has had a dreadful season (even his own fans think so) and he turned his back on England. I accept that there aren't too many good right backs (English) at the moment but if Carragher is the best we can do we really ARE buggered.
