Journalists from Sky, ESPN, Manchester Evening News and the Mirror were excluded"We are taking action against a number of news organisations," the club said in a statement. "Not for publishing stories we don't like, but for doing so without contacting us first to give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise. "We believe this is an important principle to defend and we hope it can lead to a re-set in the way we work together."I thought that wasn't allowed under Prem rules?

I'd like to see Mike Phelan back doing MOTD post-match interviews for them.

Ferguson banned the BBC many years ago I thought when TP was getting a booting and it was suggested we ban them the rules were we couldn't? If you want to be in the circus you need to put up the clowns.

I still maintain this is the main reason Peter Smith is so generous with his marks for Stoke players performance and rarely has a go at the manager, purely to avoid being banned. There is obviously no such thing as the freedom of the press, especially where football's prima donnas and their egos are involved.

Ferguson banned the BBC many years ago No level of rule bending was below him or his teams and without absolute impunity

Ferguson banned the BBC many years ago 2004 to 2011, to do with a documentary the BBC made which included his son Jason who was an agent.

It’s surprising the MEN didn’t follow protocol and ask for a response. The others are up against it to get the scoop and publish as soon as they can. You’d assume the local newspaper is in the club’s back pocket being fed stories and given preferential access in return.

The more cosy the relationship that a journalist can develop with a club the more access/information they can get. I do wonder what Manchester United are thinking though - maybe they are trying to circle the wagons and create a "everyone vs us" mindset. Are they mad at any particular stories that have been released?

There is obviously no such thing as the freedom of the press, especially where football's prima donnas and their egos are involved. But what is the current benefit for this access to us as readers? There is never anything insightful or meaningful told to Sentinel journalists by the club, just the same banal soundbites. If the club banned The Sentinel, they are cutting out the main comms channel between them and the supporters and running the risk of a them and us situation. Surely better to allow the paper to ask the hard questions when required, but for there to be mutual respect and a pre-going to press phone call to allow opportunity to respond.
