Actually an exciting signing if, fingers crossed, it goes through. With Scholes and Carto still in charge, I refuse to believe this report till I see him in red and white stripes with a couple of oatcakes in hand.

A beast in the midfield 3 is required but I don't know too much about this Badou fellow. From the clips I've seen of him, he looks very decent but perhaps someone else on here can educate me on what sort of player he is. As for the fee, 17 mill euros is the standard fee for any half decent midfielder these days. The squad needs reinforcing, there's no 2 ways about it and we can't afford to shop in pound-land again.

I wouldn't be surprised. Southampton have been woeful this season, just as bad as us. I saw their game against Leicester a couple of weeks ago and it could've easily been 6-0 to Leicester by the hour mark. And I'm saying this as someone who actually has a lot of respect and admiration for Southampton.

Still doesn't look like he could be arsed today. Did well on the assists but did fuck all apart from that. He ran his bollocks off. I'm willing to bet that he had one of the highest distance covered stats in the team today.

You can come back and say that once we've got 3 consecutive 9th place finishes under him. You can't live on past glories though Lambert has won one game and has a long way to go before he produces anything to rival the best stuff that Sparky produced but he'd clearly lost the plot and it had been very bad for a considerable period it was no minor blip. He's won one game that was nothing outstanding in itself but he allowed a team that's been frightened of its own shadow to play in a more confident manner. It was a good win and I enjoyed it but it wasn't rocket science it never needed to be, Hughes had just tied himself into knots with no apparent reason. I agree. Mark Hughes deserved to be sacked. In fact personally I felt he should've left in the summer but that doesn't change my opinion of the terrific job he did in his first 3 seasons. All I was suggesting from my previous comment is that it's nonsensical to compare Lambert's reign to Hughes' after just one game. But with that being said, I'm fully behind the new manager and I do think he can be successful at this club if he plays his cards right and doesn't make the same stupid mistakes that Hughes and Pulis made towards the end of their tenures.

He should have been replaced last summer. Yes the only manager who hasn't declined after a few years was Ferguson. Teams need to change every few years no criticism of the managers it just gets stale after a while. Just look at Arsenal I agree and from a manager's perspective, it's got to be difficult to motivate the same group of players every single week for 4-5 years.

Great to see a manager openly pleased when we score? Sparky really was a dull twat wasn't he? Or bore off would you. Sparky was a great manager for us and now he's gone. Can we move on too?

Wonder what Lambert has to say in the dressing room. If I were him, I'd be giving Shaquiri a right bollocking, and not just for the miss Not his fault really. Ball has been in the air more so that it has been on the ground.

That post match prezzer he did at Old Trafford was something else, worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it, more like 'on the psychiatrists couch' than a football interview, lovely fella but he did look like a tortured soul. I guess as soon as Sparky lands somewhere (Southampton?!) then the Ed and Bowen show is back in business. I think he was quite emotional after the defeat at Old Trafford because he knew he was soon about to be shown the door. He's a nice fella and was very popular with the players but I think it was time that the players heard some new voices in training.

I can see the players rallying behind this manager. He speaks really well and he seems very humble.

Has probably confused because he's had all out abuse, all day, from all forms of social media yet our great away fans sing his name for 10 minutes! I think that will get him really pumped up to not let the fans down.

A solid 8. Did everything that Hughes failed to do in the last couple of months. Strong subs, we didn't just ping the ball to crouch at every opportunity, we had the confidence to keep the ball down and play some good football. Created loads of chances, more than most teams coming the Old Trafford but didn't take our chances. Lambert will improve our defence but we have enough quality to stay up. And the fans were absolutely amazing.

Whilst Choupo was disappointing today, he has been one of our best players this season. Shaqiri was good first half but useless in the second half.

So many positives from that first half. Shaqiri and Ireland are on fire, shame about their finishing. Tymon and Fletcher are the weak links for me. Fletcher has been decent imo. Agree about Tymon.
