OK lame second half but a really positive first half. Lambert has to channel that for Saturday.
Presumably Pieters will come back.

Keep Tymon, Wimmer and Fletcher in the club shop for 90 minutes and we'll beat them 4-2

Lame second half down to fitness levels, not sure if that will improve by the weekend.
Our season starts right now !

The most important game in the season. On paper it isn't but psychologically it absolutely is. Win and follow it up with key signings then a lot of (self created) negativity will lift. Lose and different story.

The most important game in the season. On paper it isn't but psychologically it absolutely is. Win and follow it up with key signings then a lot of (self created) negativity will lift. Lose and different story. Psychologically it is very needed as push for the team with the new manager. In addition to that, I always see Huddersfield, Brighton and Swansea as potential teams for relegation. Beating Huddersfield helps Stoke to get 3 important points and helps Huddersfield to relegate too.

I'd give Ireland another game. Huddersfield give you a bit of space. Choupo not at the races tonight but he frightened the life out of them up there. They dealt with Crouch.
Roll the dice and play Saido? Adam, Ireland, Shaqiri to play the ball in behind?
Can we sign a 'star trialist' like you used to be able to on 'The Boss's on the Commodore 64😁?

Massive game. Those just above us all have much tougher games on paper, so winning this one could give us a big lift. Psychologically, a win would do us the world of good, too.
I don't even wan't to contemplate losing it.
Assuming Shawcross is still out and we don;t make any additions before the weekend, I would go with this.
Butland
Bauer Zouma Martins Indi Peiters
Ireland Allen Adam
Shaqiri Ramadan
Diouf
Bench: Grant Crouch Choupo-Moting Fletcher Wimmer Edwards Berahino Cameron
Let's just grind out a win, relieve the stress a bit and then focus on doing what business we can to support the new gaffer. We clearly need to spend in several areas including left back, central midfield, striker, and IMO both wings need to be addressed. Shaq is a far better number 10 than he is right winger, and neither Choupo-Moting or Ramadan have done enough to make the left wing spot their own. IT's a lot to ask, and I doubt we'll address all of those areas in January, but let's hope we can at least bring in 2-3 quality additions. Bauer looks like he could be exactly what we need, so at least thats a start.

Certainly the most important game of the season to date.
Absolutely massive.
We need a full house bear pit atmosphere
Let's give Paul a real Stokie welcome and raise the decibels.

If everyone is fit and there are no new signings
Butland Bauer Shawcross Indi Pieters Cameron Allen Shaq Ireland Ramadan Crouch
Was impressed with Ireland yesterday he just understandably looks rusty. From this team It’s clear to me that we need at least 4 signings Left back Defensive Midfielder Left winger Striker

Win It, then with a week or more off, they can go away for some warm weather training where hopefully they'll be put through a fairly rigorous training regime ready to be flying v Watford.

Saturday's game reminds me of 1961/62 against the same opposition. It was Stan's return. Back then we were a meandering, bland team going no where and looking at possible relegation. Stan transformed the team that day and prepared Stoke for the promotion season 62/63. Stan's return lifted the attendances from av. 9000 to 35000 on the day. The game put a smile back on our supporters and a repeat of that 3-0 score line would be very nice. I was there in 62 and will be there on Satdee.

Lose on Satdee and we will be effectively 8 points behind this lot due to the goal difference and we already need a couple of wins on the bounce just to get out of the bottom four. We're starting to drift and I just hope that Lambert has an immediate impact on spirit and fitness. Even my wife asked me why we looked knackered second half

One choice and one choice alone imo will determine whether we have any chance of avoiding relegation - who will start as CF
If Crouch starts in the first XI we are well and truly fucked
If not we'll be at the races

Lose and different story. I feel it could be the same for Huddersfield. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the winner will survive and the loser will go down. Huge test of mental fortitude for both teams. The Huddersfield fans will certainly be up for it. Will the Stoke fans?
