This is the mental world we live in I'm afraid mate. No one can trust or believe anything because left and right gives us nowt but propaganda. Some even seek comfort in the frankly mad idea that the mainstream media is some kind of left-wing propaganda machine In that case we should all vote for the sensible middle ground, not left or right! We should all vote lib dem And aren't the sun and the daily mail the two most read papers.... hardly a left wing propaganda machine those two!! News is a product like any other. Most people consume it on the whole in order to reinforce their opinions. That's how most of us discern truth from lies. Many right-wingers on here therefore get very upset when anyone writes off the Mail or the Sun as right-wing propaganda. Because for them those papers represent the truth. Yet when even those papers say things they don't agree with, it becomes a mass conspiracy in the mainstream media

That evil Mr.Trump & his racist, intolerant supporters are at it again... Professional agitators for the Democratic party are bussed in to cities to start the riots, which are then reported by the MSM as being "Spontaneous". Anti-Trump students beat-up teachers. In Sweden, peaceful, tolerant Muslims beat-up a TV chef for 'looking like Trump'. And a Muslim woman is beat-up by vile, racist Trump supporters.... Oh, no, she made it all up. How do you know that the news sources you're citing are any more reliable than the MSM mate? I don't offer any foolproof reliable news sources BTW, just curious

Agree totally there'll be no certainties in politics for some time i have a feeling le pen will struggle to emulate the US i can honestly see a rise in green, liberal, labour, (((UTOPIA))) support in the not too distant future.....inspired by all the media's constant regurgitating propaganda. sky, ITV news today full of insults for trump, farage, and brexit their motto .... Throw enough shit and hopefully some will stick. whether love or hate the above, it's pretty obvious that the media isn't just giving news its trying to indoctrinate its thoughts into the public media should not be used in this way.....they have become far too powerful. as dangerous as the far right Love your logic : the media only supports left wing. / liberals. Look at the owners of the newspapers idiot and see which party they support!! This is the mental world we live in I'm afraid mate. No one can trust or believe anything because left and right gives us nowt but propaganda. The people of America have voted for change !, the vocal and violent minority do not like the result so fcuking what, suck it up kids Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/259839/race-white-house?page=20#ixzz4PqNmsH1WSo does democracy only apply when it's what you think in your little fishy brain? Problem is, I think it's something you trod in when you were last up the marshes with mumf Why don't you do us all a favour and learn either magnanimity or anonymity? He took over a completely fucked system to be fair so by that logic Lawson and Osborne weren't experts either. On that I can agree I think it says it all that you're willing to listen to JK Rowling on the Labour Party but not a Harvard professor on politics and economics He did yes. But his solution was to just ignore deadline after EU deadline. Fuck it. Can't pay won't pay. Which rallied the locals somewhat and his buddy won a general election on the anti-austerity ticket. Except they do still have those debts to the ECB and the IMF or whoever printed their bailout money. Oh I listen to the pair of them but Harvard Professor's ....... I've shit 'em. No mate, he was appointed finance minister after Tsipras was elected and resigned before he even called his second election. Greece literally had/has no money. What was Varoufakis to do? How can you pay for something you can't afford? Yes you can borrow more (at punitive rates) but then the whole end point of austerity is to borrow less isn't it? I know you think that economists are like weathermen but an awful lot of them, including plenty of neoliberal establishment ones, were united in seeing a big fuck-off hurricane coming. In thinking that the EU's treatment of Greece was not just cruel but totally counter-productive and foolhardy as well. Anyhow, we digress

I think it's fair to say that some people in, say, the Tea Party Movement are racist. Ditto saying "they're rapists" about Mexicans in general is racist without getting into whether Trump himself is a racist. People who aren't racist sometimes say racist things either by accident or in the heat of a moment. But I haven't read anyone anywhere saying that all white people who didn't vote for Obama are racist. Do you have anything to support that statement? They don't say it's racist directly, but why use these statistics? They plant a seed and the public come to a conclusion. These statistics do come across as though they are trying to say part of society are racist and they voted this way or that for a reason. People are not stupid and they know the point they are making. If that's what the statistics are then that's what they are. What should we do, not report any in case anyone decides to have an opinion on them?

I agree there won't be - but will those of his supporters who voted for him because of those promises be fine with that? I don't think Obama ever abandoned the idea of closing Guantanamo - the administration has invested a huge amount of time looking at how to do it. They haven't been able to, which is a failure, but they've tried. I'm only checking this thread to see if chiefdelilah is still going. And he is, every time. The spirit of Brando in Apocalypse Now alive on the Oatcake. One day we'll venture up the river to find this crazed Oatcake poster who just kept fighting. Just conner fault the youth. PS it wasn't Hillary in that video You haven't been releasing home movies online have you, mate?

I've read that one yeah. I think he's an interesting character. And no offence but I suspect he knows more about economics than anyone on here. Then again we do live in an age where people are bored of experts No offence taken. I've already compared Economist's to weather forecasters. Hmm, I think he most definitely would have an idealised notion of how Marxist economics might/should work in Western Europe but he was the Finance Minister of Greece so I'm not sure he's the 'expert' I would agree with He took over a completely fucked system to be fair so by that logic Lawson and Osborne weren't experts either. I didn't mention anything in my post to do with white people & Obama, so I'm not really sure what you're on about. I simple said that when 95% of black people voted for Obama there was no mention of racism, it was purely that people wanted change, but when 60% of white people vote for Trump it's because they're racist... They're even calling it a 'whitelash'. "Make no mistake - Donald Trump's victory represents a racist "whitelash"
In Britain and the US, politicians are succeeding not despite of racism but because of it."Gotcha, yep, sorry mate. Misread it due to hangover

This is one of the reasons I voted to leave. The whole "cuddly liberal we're-all-in-it-together" thing is bollocks. The EU is about neoliberalism and globalisation, pure and simple. Its facade fell apart when it destroyed a member state, Greece, purely in order to prove a point and prove its power. The former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis said an interesting thing on R4 the other day - he said he's all for free trade and free movement of people but that the problem with the current system is the free movement of profits. I'm not saying I agree with that 100% - but I thought it was an interesting position Dear old Yanis. He's probably got another book out. it is an interesting thought but I'm not sure how, practically, you could ever separate free movement of profits from the free movement of the profit generator. He's got a lot of theories and causes. Most Marxist do. Here's a article in the Guardian written by him about him if you've got 10 mins and nothing to do. And I do mean absolutely nothing I've read that one yeah. I think he's an interesting character. And no offence but I suspect he knows more about economics than anyone on here. Then again we do live in an age where people are bored of experts

What i can't get my head around is whilst the American election came to it's last few days, the media bang on about white men likely vote this way, black people vote this way, Asian people, hispanics and so forth. Then they go on about racism in the country when the media are the ones turning the people against each other. After the vote it's become a blame game and with tensions already high in parts of america, the media seem determined to make it worse. The people voted because of the state of the economy, not immigration which was way down the list, yet they focus on race and dividing society's using statistics. One of the best ones is how something like 95% of black people voted for Obama, around 60% of white people voted for Trump... The conclusion to this? White people are racist! The media have killed themselves this year. People were already turning against them anyway, but their actions over first Brexit, and then the US election have really hammered home the final nails into their own coffins. I think it's fair to say that some people in, say, the Tea Party Movement are racist. Ditto saying "they're rapists" about Mexicans in general is racist without getting into whether Trump himself is a racist. People who aren't racist sometimes say racist things either by accident or in the heat of a moment. One direct consequence of brexit is that the neighbour's missus was yesterday made redundant as her American business is relocating her department to Poland as a direct result of brexit! It's such a shame we're part of that EU where Multinationals can cherry pick the areas of cheaper labour to maintain their profit margins. This is one of the reasons I voted to leave. The whole "cuddly liberal we're-all-in-it-together" thing is bollocks. The EU is about neoliberalism and globalisation, pure and simple. How odd that redwhitenblue has disappeared from the discussion, but manmarking feels the need to defend his honour. And why the need to keep mentioning Brexit? Last I was aware we were discussing independence movements in general before someone got a bit irate. I'd like to know if redwhitenblue has any thoughts on the matter? Given that he was quite opionionated earlier... defending his honour? Dear oh dear mate. I merely pointed out that you were both being disrespectful to each other, which is sadly how a lot of the debate around Brexit has been. Personally speaking I voted Leave but I'd really like us as a country - not one side or the other to come together over this issue and make the best of it. If you, fraise, carps etc would rather not then fine. Your prerogative

If you read the posts properly, I think you'll find it was the other dude who 'couldn't give a shit' what I had to put, hence my use of quotation marks. Mate. I couldn't give a shit what reasons you want to attribute to each individual war, I'm just pointing out that separatism and nationalist governments do not make for peaceful times! Anyone crowing about the possible downfall of the EU should be very careful what they are wishing for. I suspect there's a lot of "it's western Europe, it won't happen here" thinking going on, well that's horseshit! It's happened here regularly in the past and it's perfectly capable of happening again. What you don't see any more are wars between the various 'old states' of England (Mercia, Wessex, Anglia, Northumbria) or those of Germany or Italy or France. And why not? Because they are successfully united. I'll bet you the very same arguments about immigration, losing control and government from elsewhere were had between pro and con supporters before those countries came into existence too! So why did you vote to leave the EU utopia you obviously admire I smell shit coming from your posts, you are better off where you say you are in the USA under the leadership of a TRUMP the smell is similar you will fit in very well, by the way are you any good at bricklaying . I'm absolutely outraged at the PC Brigade wanting non-whites to fill specific jobs. I mean, look at those shits in the security services. For example, fancy wanting to only employ people of Muslim background to infiltrate Muslim terror cells. It's a fucking disgrace. I think we should send more people like carps in. Like the Russians wiped Afghanistan out at the end of the seventies and beginning of the eighties..... that went well didn't it !!!! The Afghans in their own backyard absolutely ripped them to bits. This next conflict will be a fuck up of gargantuan proportions . And that will only be the start - ISIS won't ever go away Don't recall many Isis terrorist atrocities on Soviet soil, maybe they have the answer to eradicating this scum from our own and the west in general. There's a place called Chechnya, carps. Bit forgotten. Run down sort of place. A bit like Stoke but even more violent (except on Saturday nights). Anyway, would you believe it but it's full of Muslim types. And some of those Muslims have committed all manner of terrorist atrocities on Russian soil. Al Qaeda folk and their affiliates amongst that number. So I hate to be the one to remind you that you're talking a little trail of fishy shit out of your arse again but, well, you are Remember: Chechnya. You should read about it. I took a bit of work on helped a friend out for a few days last week and just got back on Sunday. Since then I've noticed how few people are wearing poppies. It was noticeable travelling up from London and so while I was out in Hanley and Stoke for a couple of hours yesterday I did a bit of a head count. I only saw three people!
Is a small act of remembrance too much these days? Particularly this year, the anniversary of the Somme (and Verdun). Hundreds of thousands of working class folk of every race and religion have died in wars that they had little say in over the years. A white or traditional red poppy makes no difference, wear what you like - Just remember ffs.
What is wrong with people. Grrrrrrr. My owd granddad served and nearly died in the Burmese jungles. He didn't used to wear poppies because he felt that the poppies themselves, the Royal British Legion and all the pomp and grandeur served to glorify something that really shouldn't have been glorified. He remembered the conflict and the fallen in his own ways up until the day he died. But he'd have hated this whole sense of duty that's grown up around poppy-wearing. As far as he was concerned, he served to protect freedom and democracy.
