So sad - a wonderful footballing knight RIP Sir Bobby.
It wasn't that long ago that his beloved Newcastle sacked him after finishing something like 7th in the PL, what would they give for him now?

In a very tribal game where we all 'hate' the opposition there are very few pepople across the game who transcend all that bile.
Football is a very much the poorer for this Great Man's passing today. A grand chap.
RIP Sir Bobby.

RIP Sir Bobby Hardly unexpected, but very sad all the same. Lovely bloke, who always had plenty of time to talk to proper fans (one of the few who stopped by the wall of the tunnel at the Vic, and chatted for quite some time to those of us standing there). ah

Oh my....
I have only just found out when logging in.
That is so sad. A true gentleman and a true legend of the game. I can't say i am greatly suprised, considering how he looked at the charity match on Sunday but he is one of the greats in my and many other eyes. He will be greatly missed.
RIP Sir Bobby

It's an awful shame. He hasn't been looking very well for a long time, but it is still sad to hear. RIP, Sir Bobby!

R.I.P Sir Bobby, a genuine true gent and a loss to not just football. Long may your memory go on in support of the charity fund raising you undertook with suhc sincerity.
Unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet the man or have a great tale to tell like a couple of folk on here, but you nearly gave me and many others one hell of a gift and all of us a drunken tale or two during Italia 90.

A true legend of the game. I'll always remember him as England manager in the late 80s and of course Italia '90, but he achieved yet more than that.

What an absolute legend this man was. My friend moved to Newcastle for a few years ago and went up to watch training, Bobby noticed his accent and asked him if he was a Stoke fan. Unfortunately my mate's a Vale fan but Bobby spoke to him about John Rudge and Vale for about 30 mins. What a gent, and his knowledge of footy was immense. Will be sorely missed

A real, real shame. A true gent. The term legend is banded about far too much in football, but Sir Bobby was most definitely a legend.
RIP.

I was 18 during Italia 90 - A Glorious Summer. Bobby was in my affections since then. Hated the way Newcastle cast him out as manager, but so so close to being a World Cup Winner. The man was a legend, he even played alongside Duncan Edwards and Sir Stan for England. I'm going to miss you Sir Bobby.
