Very sad if true but nothing on BBC! where did you hear? Its on sky news and bbc news now. Very sad loss. A great football man and so selfless until the end with his charity work. Always seemed to show great passion for the game and great dignity. RIP Sir Bobby.

Very sad news to hear that this true gentleman has passed away. I had the privilige of meeting him at Lilleshall when running a boys' team when he was the England manager. Although under a pressure to attend a presentation evening, Mr. Robson took time time out to speak to all the boys individually and said he would return to have a drink with the parents after his function. True to his word Mr. Robson did return and spent a very interesting hour or so with us. I wonder how many of the current'lot' would take time out such as this?

Even though it's been coming it's very sad because of the man he appeared to be. A gent and sadly a dieing breed. His presence around the game helped it to maintain an element of respectability that it no longer deserves. RIP

When my son was about 9 and Sir Bobby was Manager at Barcelona he wrote to him asking for his autograph and also mentioned that he thought Ronaldo was the best player in the World (which he probably was at that time). A very short time later he had a signed photo from Robson in an envelope clearly addressed by himself and inside was another envelope with written on the front 'Look inside!' Inside was a piece of white card on which a magazine photo of Ronaldo had been carefully cut out around the outline of his body (including in and out of his fingers!)and signed over the top by Ronaldo.
Aside from being astonished that he had gone to such lengths instead of just getting him to sign an ordinary photo or card, we couldn't believe that he had taken so much care for a young boy when being in one of the highest profile football jobs in the world. Very sadly missed and as someone wrote above, if not the most then one of the most, dignified men the game has ever seen.

It is a really sad day. A total gentleman. I am sitting here in the sun in the Algarve sending this and I know this was a much loved part of the world for the late Sir Bobby. He had a golf tournament in his name here as part of his charity work.
The situation at Newcastle recently must have broken his heart.
What dignity, presence and compassion he had.
Rest in peace Sir Bobby knowing that you brought pleasure to so many and a formidable role model to all who wanted to know how the game and life in general were to be lived. Peter

Easily one of the most respected people in British football, and hopefully the world too. He had a good innings at 76, and it's amazing that he fought cancer five times. You will be missed Sir Bobby.
