Problem is...fans don't any more and crowds are often lower unless a big name in town then they all turn up. Even then you're not guaranteed to see the big names, far from it . FA Cup 3rd round day would be a bumper crowd, simply isn't any more I remember us playing Everton is the cup...huge crowd. The next week we played them again and an embarrassing crowd . Was it 6k odd? Am all for scrapping the replays to be honest and could make it more of a cup tie and maybe even favour the lesser clubs to get a result on the day. There isn't big money gate receipts unless a small club is drawn away to a huge club. The gate receipts are lower than league gates for many clubs as I think each team takes 47% so a 10 k home game equates to less than 5k in gate receipts. There is prize money and TV money also of course Maybe it would make a difference if attending football matches in the modern age wasn't such an expensive hassle? The additional expense of cup games on top of a season ticket is enough to make you think twice unless you're at the business end of the tournament. How come Prem grounds are pretty much sold out every week and they were far from it 70s and 80s for example.? In fact nowhere near in many cases.

How would FA Cup butchery work? Butchers get drawn against each other and have to strip carcasses with the final being at Smithfield market? Cheap As Chops butchers in Smallthorne is hoping to get drawn at home against Provenance Village Butchers so he can force a replay down in Notting Hill.

Just seen this in response to many EFL clubs demanding the FA suspend the decision to scrap FA Cup replays ……"the FA says the calendar for next season was approved by the Professional Game Board, which consists of four representatives from the EFL and four representatives from the Premier League." That’s scandalous, 20% of PL are represented but only 5.5% of EFL who represent more than 3.5 times the professional footballing community than the PL. Approving the fixture calendar does not mean approving the decision to scrap replays but it demonstrates the FAs scorn & contempt for EFL and bias towards PL and how they have used the fixture calendar approval to show that EFL have somehow approved their crass decision. I’m about to put together a letter to my MP especially as the PM has dismissed their decision as a matter for the football authorities, which it seems means FA & PL. How strange that our government condemned the proposal for a European super league but sitting firmly on the fence with this controversy.

The chances of me seeing Stoke win the FA cup before I die must be zillions to one!

The fact is the cup is not what it was.
There's no point shouting at the authorities for downgrading it when largely, the fans have already done that by voting with their feet.
The simple solution to this is scrap replays and the team in the lowest division chooses the venue. Two teams from the same division and it's just as per the teams are drawn.

In light of this shit decision, all lower league teams, once they are drawn against higher league opposition, should be allowed to choose whether to play home or away.

But that also spoils the idea of the cup. Financially if a team draw Utd they would be st upid to choose not to play at Old Trafford whereas half the romance of the cup is seeing the big boys having to slum it at the small grounds. As a fan I think you'd prefer to see a big team playing on your pitch too.

You don’t get to see the big stars slumming it at the little grounds much anymore. Football has definitely lost some of its appeal in some ways, but gained in others. The one thing I think that is bad for the game long term is volume of games - there’s just too much of it these days.
